When the ride begins in '65 at a pizza parlor in the South Bay under another moniker, who would have imagined? When "Who Are You? Where Are You? How Are You?" became "Won't you come with me?" and, ultimately, "Where does the time go?," who would have thought? 60 years on, we're celebrating the Grateful Dead's Diamond Era. Here we go back to the beginning, to the original "Follow," and uncover the wonders of getting on the bus all over again.
ENJOYING THE RIDE is a sweeping 60-CD collection that maps an epic cross-country road trip along the “Heady Highway” with stops at storied venues where the music, the moment, and the magic of the Dead reliably converged. Spanning 25 years of legendary live performances, this expansive compendium spotlights defining shows from 1969 to 1994 at 20 venues that consistently inspired the band to new heights.
With the exception of a few tracks from earlier releases, virtually all of the music on ENJOYING THE RIDE is previously unreleased, with more than 450 tracks and over 60 hours of music. Of the 20 shows in the collection, 17 are presented in full, with some featuring additional material from the same venue. The remaining three — Fillmore West, Fillmore East, and Boston Music Hall — are curated from multiple performances at each venue, capturing key moments on those legendary stages.
These performances were originally recorded by Owsley “Bear” Stanley, Betty Cantor-Jackson, Kidd Candelario, Dan Healy, and John Cutler. David Glasser and Jeffrey Norman restored and mastered the performances, with select ones using Plangent Processes tape restoration and speed correction for optimal sound quality.
It's all housed in a custom keepsake box inspired by the experience of traveling from city to city to see the Dead at legendary venues across America. Inside, a beautifully detailed tour guide features liner notes by Jesse Jarnow (author and co-host of the Good Ol’ Grateful Deadcast) and a producer’s note from Lemieux, an essay by the Owsley Stanley Foundation, and more. The set is richly illustrated with photos, including many taken at the shows featured in the collection.
Due May 30th, this one is limited to 6,000 individually numbered copies and exclusive to Dead.net. We invite you to take this not-so-little piece of the road home.

DaP 56
We’re due some Grease.
Nappy
Sweet Nappy! I mean not too many can say that.
Sticking with 82 for #56.
Bad Shipping Technique?
I had these issues with the ~60th~ ETR Big Box, and that should've been my sign. (Also that was totally the absolute worst timing and such an expensive release to go all loosey goosey with) Anyways I did get my ETR Box, and also I got my BfA 50th today, a day earlier than expected but that was bad info anyways.
The middleman techy "shipping tracker" app folks that are contracted for this are terrible. I at least had the tracking number from the email but that had no links attached and also never names the shipper. So I had to copy paste the tracking number and go try a few shipping companies at random till I got a hit.
Well, I finally found out it was UPS but couldn't get updated tracking info. I just had a hunch to go check the front door before dark and there it was, waiting for me or a porch pirate. No notice, no doorbell ring. Damn that is reckless with customer's shit! I feel real bad for folks that have issues with missing shipments.
I should be aware of when to be on guard for shipments, or pass it to the snail mail Postal Service they at least put it in a locked box!
Anyways,... Yeah, #56 is upcoming and I have been predicting an 1982 for a bit {Two Frost shows maybe?} because it is one of the most underrepresented years. That said maybe an '81gets the call, or possibly them early '83 Brendan Byrne Arena show(s) that someone mentioned earlier. Them shows also have Steven Stills as a guest guitarist. Both shows they play a Stills song, "Black Queen" the first night and "Love The One You're With" the next show.
Someone also mentioned a Grease era show and that's not a bad bet either, though it should be an oldie, say 1968?
Last thought,.... As far as these 50th anniversary releases go, to me it's all about the extras. Studio Dead is nothing near the live element, and the all the Dead songs I know have always been better live. I am only interested in the attached live show like they did with the 1971 Port Chester shows, for Workingman's Dead and American Beauty. The Reno show from Mars Hotel wasn't the best sonically (due to 1974 wind conditions) but nice to have and the Dead.net fellas did a nice job cleaning it up as best they could. I wish they would've gave more for the Wake Of The Flood release but the chunk given was solid no doubt.
My question for folks would be what accompanying live show would you like to see added with the upcoming 50th releases. For me 4/23/77 Springfield, MA would be a desirable pick for the Terrapin album, but technically Dave's #41was a better representation of the album in terms of songs.
For the Shakedown Street album they should pick a November or December 1978 show with "Shakedown" and "From the Heart of Me" included. I hear there are a few early 1979 shows that may be worthy as well?
Dylan Bootleg Series Vol 18 announced
This set is due out at the end of October. Tracks from ‘50’s to ‘63. 8 cd deluxe or 2 cd highlights.
RxYs
Speaking of early 1979 releases, what I believe to be the last great Keith/Donna show, which I attended, was 2/3/1979 at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis......simply outstanding. Seven shows later, they were out of the band. Most, but not all, of the show is on utoob, but just the audio. I have a cool poster from that show that I had an employee from a head shop save for me. Eventually , I had it signed by Mouse; it's a day-glo orange/blue combination that depicts the skull from the back of the Terrapin Station album, which Mouse did. My favorite part of the poster is the ticket prices....$6.50/$7.50 DOS. Those were the daze.
Colin & Dylan
Thanks for the heads up.
Ordered.
Shakedown bonus
I'm not too bothered about the remaining studio releases - but a good bonus show for Shakedown might be one of those Egypt With Love Shows from October. We had a selection for one of the Road Trips, but they are well worth revisiting.
Hey Doingtheneedful
Glad you stopped by. Great observations. (I'm digging out my Beyond Description box for a spot-check). In the future, maybe don't stay away so long? Onward
David Byrne's tour kicked off in Pitt last night....
....setlist looks good.
Rainy Day Dead
My problem with that song is that line about "the sound of street cats making love." Which always brings to mind that fingernails on the chalkboard screeching, and seems completely at odds with the sweet romantic tone of the song. Really blows it for me.
Re #56: I'm thinking it's going to be a '60s show. Because we got a ton of '80s in ETR, nine full shows plus bonus material. And I assume it won't be a '90s show, since #55 was from '90. And we've already had two '70s shows from Dave this year. So what's left? It's gotta be '60s, right?
Yes, it's gotta be a 60s show!
Please please please
(even if it includes a Lovelight, sez Snarky McFuqxworth)
Terrapin Bonus
Daverock, I understand where you're coming from, but I wouldn't mind hearing Terrapin Station and Estimated Prophet without the overdubs. And I certainly wouldn't object to a 3CD set that included the first night of the March 77 Winterland run.
I guess the other question is, will we get a 50th anniversary release of Reflections?
What Crow Told Us All
Definitely makes a strong case for the '60s. Especially since there was 10 Brent shows in the ETR Box. Upon further contemplation that is a real good bet, it's the last Dave's release on the year, it's the 60th anniversary of the band. Why not a 1960s show?
I suppose we can get a double release of 1982 from the Frost next year for #57!
I don't think it's a 1960s show for #56…
I don't think it's a 1960s show for #56. First off, the three 1969 shows that are Dave's Picks have been meh sellers. The setlists don't vary much, you typically get a big: Other One, DS, and/or St Stephen...and always the 15-20min Lovelight. Basically 1969 is the only "1960s" year you can get a true release out of, and 1969 has been covered an absolute plentiful amount. The ETR Box Set had FIVE 1969 shows in the box, all had D/S.
I think it's going to be 1982 also, it's time, it has NOT been done in the Dave's Picks series- also there hasn't been a Scarlet>Fire in the DaP series this year. I predict a 1982 show with Scarlet>Fire.....if it's not 1982, I predict 10/14/80.
Daves # 56 ?
2/17/79, combined with 4/22/79. 10/31/70 , 10/31/69, 10/9 & 10/ 82 .
I'll venture a guess on the time frame ...
Late '81:
Dane County Coliseum, or Market Square Arena, Indianapolis 12/5, ...
OR possibly Des Moines Civic Center??
Lots of gems to be found in these.
Of course, still looking for anything from '68 or '70 - plus those '82 Frost shows - in either order, next year.
Great minds think alike
Smyler - yes, I was wondering about whether Reflections would get reissued after listening to BFA. Same timespan, The Dead on half the tracks and some great songs. I also liked the first Kingfish album that came out round about the same time.
Although the actual album, Terrapin, isn't a favourite, it would be hard to pass by if it was released with a March 77 show to gussy it up.
Streetcats making love
Years ago someone on this site implied that those lyrics refer to Pigpen and Janis getting it on.
If DaP 56 isn’t Grease, then hopefully it has a LLR.
Pink Floyd 4-26-75
I do have a copy and it sounds pretty good for being an actual AUD bootleg (as compared to being allowed to record).
Will be interesting to hear how much it can be cleaned up for official release.
Your dog has no nose?
That explains why your dog keeps licking my nose and chewing up all my letters that say you better……
Pigpen and Janis
yuck
The late '80's LLR's....
.....is where it's at. That is, if someone was looking for the prime LLR cuts. Said no one ever.
Shipping of BFA and Dave's Picks
This experience will echo what another poster shared. It's always been a funny joke here, but now it's getting worrisome. I was hoping that when they revamped the Store that things would improve, but they've gotten worse. I got a shipping notice, but it never mentioned that it was UPS Mail Innovations. It used to be that UPS would get it to their regional facility in Rossford, OH, and then it would sit for a mysterious amount of time. Then it would get delivered to the regional USPS in Cleveland, where I would get updates as it moved down the chain and eventually show the, "Out for delivery." update. My regular mailman or woman would then put it in my mailbox.
Now, it gets to Rossford (about 90 miles from my house and says, "Out for delivery." For this one, it mentioned all along that it would be here Tuesday. Then, when it missed their time prediction, it flipped to Wednesday. Just before I went to bed, I went to lock the front door, and there it was, sitting on my front porch. I'm guessing that what happened is similar to the other poster, that of someone in an unmarked car that is not either UPS or USPS dropped it off. As of today, the USPS tracking is still indicating "USPS Currently Awaiting Package." It's pretty clear that UPS Mail Innovations is passing off my item to some third party contractor.
When I order online from any other business, Amazon, Kohl's, Sam's Club, or whoever, I get periodic updates of the location of my item(s). FedEx and Amazon will give a timeframe, the name of the driver bringing it, and will even show me a map of their vehicle moving when it gets within hour of my house. Why can't Rhino and The Dead do this? It must be worth the cost savings to lose a few customers.
This is not good. I love subscribing to Dave's Picks. I definitely like more selections than others, but it's cool to get surprised by a new show four times a year. But if I'm spending around $100 and then have to go through this mystery shipping fiasco each time, I'm starting to second guess my subscription.
Have a grate day everyone.
Dave’s picks latest vinyl
I received my copy with a little chunk out of the final disk between El Paso and eyes Unplayable. I immediately reached out to customer NO SERVICE and have done so three more times over the past week and a half CRICKETS! They suck. The only resolution one has with this entity when you get defective product is going to my bank and stopping the payment. This is NOT the way to do biz Warner. Time for the dead organization to crack down on warner. Are you listening Dave? When you have no confidence you stop spending your money.
Shipping Of BFA
hey RONMARLEY You are correct My BFA CD was left on my front steps and got SOAKED Didn't put it in my Mailbox They need to get this shipping thing fixed!!!
And
start actually doing CUSTOMER SERVICE.
Dave's 56?

Was a great NYE show on the radio,,,, great let it grow
Walk Me Out in the Snap Crackle Pop Morning Dew
I wasn't going to say anything, but the pressing quality of my copy of the DaP 5 vinyl is a little disappointing, too. The records are nice and flat, they don't skip or anything like that, but there's a lot of surface noise in some spots, including the very quiet passages in Morning Dew. Which almost ruins the moment.
It's frustrating, because the source audio seems to be really outstanding, and most of the 5 lps play quietly and sound great, with a wonderfully detailed and spacious soundstage. I debated contacting customer service, but I'm probably just going to let it go, since the discs are certainly "listenable" and there's no guarantee a replacement would be any better. But if others are also noticing some issues, I want to chime in as well, in the hope that somebody involved in the pressing process will take note and try to avoid such issues in the future.
PS: Yes, I did try cleaning the vinyl. Ran it through my discwasher three times, in fact. Usually that will take care of surface noise issues with new vinyl. Not this time.
More Shipping
Sorry to hear about that CHUCK. A couple other items I didn’t mention… My box for BFA was not sealed. If it woulda rained, that could have been really bad. Also, unless it’s a Dead dot net exclusive or limited release, I’ll order elsewhere from now on.
LP Quality / BfA 50th arrival
As Crow Told Me says, I too have been less than impressed with some of the LPs in the last couple of years. It has been hit and miss with the little pops which are almost always due to the tiniest bits of debris which have been difficult to clean off. No problems with flatness and centering though. Just sayin'.
Cheers
Oh, and my BfA 50th 3-CD got here quite quickly after the USPS got ahold of it. I like the packaging on this one. Listening party soon!
Mickey BFA
Getting back to the missing Mickey from the BFA photo. He was in the band in 1975 and was part of the album. Yes, so why is he missing from the photo? Good question.
Getting ready to listen to the new release this afternoon.
Daves 5 vinyl
There was a bit of surface interference on some of the quieter passages on a couple of the sides I received, too. I just tried to factor them out - not so bad that I want to pursue changing them, but not exactly perfect either.
Maybe I will stick to vinyl releases I can get from Amazon U.K. in the future.
MSG Anny
It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted.
My brother texted earlier to remind me of our fortuitous trip to NYC on this date 38 years ago. We each traveled four hours from different directions to arrive at MSG. I can’t recall exactly why we chose the Friday show of the run. Regardless, it was an epic evening. Actually feeling MSG shake during a concert is something to be hold.
Going down memory lane later this evening.
By the way. The Dew of 9/18/87 is often lauded as one of the best from the 1980s. I was fortunate enough to also attend 10/12/84. That Dew reigns supreme. And it’s not even close.
Then and Now |/\/\/\| MSG and Aarhus
Got back into collecting vinyl about five years ago and noticed a lot of quality control issues. Problems I didn't find when I collected used and the occasional new vinyl back in the late 80s and early 90s. Did some research and one theory is that vinyl being put out today is by smaller companies and without comparable resources to what the larger producers had back in the day.
Current listen is October 12 1983 from In and Out of the Garden. A ten minute Cumberland? I'll add that with the '72 Aarhus as a personal go to. This show might be favorite in the box (at least until I listen to another one).
Anniversary show 9/18/83 Nevada County Fairgrounds
42 years ago I was up at the Nevada County Fairgrounds for a fun day with the Good old Grateful . Up in the mountains , lots of cold beer, and the Grateful Dead tearing it up. Fun times!
Aarhus..
2 largest city of Denmark.. (very nice town). GREAT show - smallest place they played (I think) on the E72 tour..
Hope All Well
Been a while since I posted, like AJS. Lots of family drama.
However, I did finally receive 55 a few weeks back.
The this week on Monday was the BfA Blue Ray arrived.
Tuesday, BfA #50th anniversary 3cd set arrived.
Wednesday, TTB Mad Dogs and Englishmen Revisted arrived.
So, been a good week.
G
Lots of reading past few weeks of posts to catch up on.
9/19/70 Fillmore. East
Hopefully this show will magically appear one day as an official release, along with 9/20/70.
Aarhus
Cumberland micro jam around the 420 mark! Sounds like Phil takes the lead and Keith follows.
But that show would be another top ten I would attend had I myself a way-back machine.
Aarhus
(is a very, very, very fine hus)

The Look Back
So many great years for the band.
Thinking about BFA. What a great release and so unique. Coming up through the ranks in the 80's there was a lot that drove me to the band and at that time didn't know. There was so much I never heard before, like Blues for Allah. Terripen Station, Stagger Lee, so unique and original. Nevetr heard anything like it. These guys were the best. Let's hope they keep the releases going.
Edit. And by the by the way, where the hell are OB and Hendrixfreak?
56..
Someone posted some info about 56 on the Hoffman site - seems it will be priced at 29.98 - so probably a 3 disc set..
9/20/70. Fillmore East
One of my favorite shows. The acoustic set is an absolute killer! They could release just the acoustic set as a one off and that would be great .
9/20/70 acoustic set - single disc
As far as I'm concerned there is no reason at all why a Dave's Picks shouldn't be a single disc if it is as good as this promises to be. The same goes for almost any 1968 show. Most of us already have 100's of discs - we surely don't need another 3 or 4 every time just for the sake of it. Quality over quantity now please.
Hoffman site
The same place that claimed we were getting the Halaskawaii Box.
Just saw this Grisman Garcia announcement
This month Acoustic Disc is proud to announce its first digital single release, “Shenandoah” a previously unissued track from the sessions that produced the highly acclaimed 1993 album by Jerry Garcia and David Grisman, Not For Kids Only. This recently-discovered recording features Jerry and Dawg with the inspired piano of John Rosenberg. Also included (on the virtual flip-side) is a favorite from the original release, “The Teddy Bear’s Picnic”. Both tracks will be included in a new double LP by Round Records, coming in November. Available in the sonically superior 24-bit, 96 kHz format.
Wonder what the rest of the double LP will be?
.
.
The Shorelines Beakens
Don't think we will ever see a one disc Dave's. He has committed to a minimum of three discs for each release.
One disc each from 3 shows as one release?
Its possible
Mowr, mowr, mowr as Bill Graham would say
I want quality AND quantity
Yes, I am a greedy bastard
