Dave knocked it out of the park with this box

47 years ago I was up at Winter land for a fantastic show with the Good old Grateful Dead. The 2nd set has been released, it's to bad they didn't release the whole run as one box set. Fun times!

Billy, I have always loved this run. Hard to believe Dave hasn't found his way back to this run. It has been a long time since RT1.4 came out.

I might have to cue this one up today. I am sure you had a blast.

Should be announced any day now . Hopefully #57 is 7/13/76, it would have been nice if that whole Orpheum run would have been released as a box set. 10/31/70 with 10/4/70 would make a cool #57. We should know shortly.

I must say I hope not Billy only because I have been holding my breath for many years since I learned that 7/18/76 was recorded on multi-track. I really hope that comes out sooner than later. Now I do love the whole run and agree that a complete box would have been nice, but maybe we can get a box of the first 3 nights and then 7/18 as the multi-track release. I'm with you though; that run is top tier stuff!

So Dave just announced in his Seaside Chat that 2/1/78 is going to be the show for Vol 57. I think that is cool as we already have 2/3 and 2/5 from the old Dick's Picks release (I can't recall which number it is). I do like getting the "adjacent" shows to older releases. If we are not getting a box set with successive shows in it, it is nice that the Dave's Picks series can add these shows in. I have no familiarity with this show, but it should be fun to listen to for sure.

Dave also comments that he and the crew are committed to having the variety of shows from different eras/years in the series. I also like that provided that the 2026 subscription gives us something 1970 or before. I think we are due for that. I also think it is about time that 2/15/73 gets the nod. I see someone has mentioned 2/9/73 as well. Maybe both can be Vol 58 with the bonus disc and all, although there might not be room to fit both shows in their entirety even with the bonus disc. I had both shows on tape and very early in my tape trading days. So there is sentimental value to me for those shows.

Slash says the Sphere isn't rock and roll friendly, declines residency. Hmmm.

This Nassau show from the box is quickly becoming a favorite. Much like Dave, Playing In The Band is one of my top GD tunes. I absolutely love it from all ears, but especially 72-74 versions. This 3/16/73 version is simply stunning!!

Yes, I’ve had it. The parcel hasn’t got as far as DHL yet but I’m sure it will.

So after fighting the impulse for several months now, I broke down. Like many of us “seasoned” heads out there, at one time I had many hundreds of cassettes. Now I only have one (so far) from this new box. It kept niggling at me that I hadn’t heard this yet in official release form so I just purchased a 1977 TEAC cassette deck. Here we go again,…but at least I’m enjoying the ride.

I still have not gotten through this box either. I am more than halfway, going backwards.

I took a side trip on 81 and... I'm still there. I am ready to turn the page though. 1980 here I come. A pretty good year, overpowered by the Warfield and Radio City though. There are other shows that could have climbed as high, less formulaic but unfortunately do not stand up to the recording quality (and video) of those multi-tracks.

Which will bring me to 79 and 78 right around the corner.

Oh, I have not completely finished the Spring 78 box yet. or as Yoda would say, Pathetic am I.

But other than, I think I've listened to the whole thing. Except for the Stanford show, which was in such poor audio I decided to skip, at least for the time being. And the '94 show, come to think of it. All good things in all good time.

Damn! It would seem almost overnight that the last two Big Box Sets left over have sold out. Along with every last Dave's Picks that was remaining. For those late to the party them all were some nice selections to choose from, I know for I own every one of them.

I missed out Enjoying the Ride as it sold out so quickly, but have jnow ust picked up a sealed set to find out the limited edition number is Miracle/6000. Can anyone tell me what this means please? I am assuming it was a promo copy that has been flipped. And is there a download of the Cassette? I got rid of my tape deck 20 years ago>

The Alpine Valley 8-23-80 (BC's 4th show he said) was a really good show. Solid most of the way through but maybe not amazing? Then wham, that ending series of songs just kept getting more supercharged. Must have left you guys smiling walking out BC.
But I'm here to rave about Hampton 5-1-81. Yes, I was under the influence by then late yesterday but I was completely taken aback by Jerry's wicked speed and accuracy. We all know he got faster as he went along but by the 90s there just wasn't as much in those runs as there used to be. But here in '81 he has it all. Every riff in the book on that Promised Land (GOAT? Certainly top 10), and the Uncle and Big River blew me away. It isn't just the speed and accuracy but all those mini fills and chords just cascading endlessly. I don't think I realized he had that in '81. This is why we all check out every show we can, regardless of era. You just never know when something like that will appear. Man he was on!

8/23/80 is a fine show - of course the first at Alpine which quickly became a classic summer shed in the Midwest. Slightly on the short side - they had a show the next night in Grand Rapids so maybe thinking a bit of travel time. Like Alpine until ETR, no circulating SBD of GR but I seem to remember a very nice audience pull being available and its a great show. Alpine was right on the heels of three hot nights at the Uptown (friend there, I missed.) Long thought that the first night of that run should be released but the circulating SBD is sorta lousy so who knows. And of course that summer '80 tour started out with the legendary Mississippi River Festival show on 8/16. From the reviews, show got hit by a real frog choker rain Set II and was very much electric. No SBD for that either - would love to hear that if it survived the deluge.

Went on to the 7/11/81 Alpine Set II partial from ETR and then tracked down the rest of Set II - Stella Blue > Miracle > Going Down the Road > Saturday Night. E: Brokedown. Only circulates as an audience - listened to the recent CM remaster which uses an audience source after Other One. A solid pull of a hot show. Stella sounded awesome.
