Limited to 25,000 numbered copies and shipping this week, DAVE'S PICKS VOL. 53: RIVERFRONT COLISEUM, CINCINNATI, OH 10/2/76 was recorded by Dan Healy and has been mastered to HDCD specs by Jeffrey Norman at Mockingbird Mastering. The good news is that 6/14/76 will be out on RSD vinyl. The bad news is this means I will be spending the morning of April 12 shivering my ass off waiting in line and trying to score a copy. No pain no gain, I suppose.

Also interested in the Sly Stone RSD release. Looks it live from their very early days, because it seems to be almost all RnB covers. And yet I must have it.

A word to the wise: the Mingus at Monterey they're about to reissue is a great performance, historically important one, even, but the audio is severely lacking. That concert has been reissued and remastered many times and nobody has been able to fix it. The quieter, smaller group stuff that opens the show isn't bad, but signature performance in the set, the big band debut of Mingus's Meditations, is hard to listen to. Sounds like the recording levels were just too high, and the horns are badly distorted. This is supposedly yet another remaster, but if the sonic wizards at Mosaic couldn't fix those tapes (and they couldn't) then I doubt the RSD will be any better. Not saying don't get it, but just be prepared for bootleg-quality audio.

Hey folks! Hope you all are well.
Got to see Billy Strings in New Orleans on 12/29 (my birthday), and 12/30. Great shows! Such a shame with what happened on New Years.
Looking forward to this one to melt the cold NE Ohio nights. At my age, -20+ wind chills really suck…

I also have a shipping notice. Strangely, I can post this response on my phone but my iPad won’t let me post to the 52 or 53 threads.

Finally got a CD player after about 6 years, and have been enjoying it tremendously. These discs still sound good, and no rot as reported by others. I started with DaP 1-20 (so far), and definitely my favorite is 18 - San Fran 7.17.76! Always been a sucker for 76, the first cassettes I got from that year were the Tavern on the Green shows and it's been my go to ever since.
2nd is 09 - Missoula 5.14.74
3rd is 16 - Springfield 3.28.73

Ready for more 76. Bonus, dry January is mercifully, almost over!

My son sent this to me. Do a you tube search for Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon - Full Album - If it was made in 1950.

The lyric cover is early 50's, at times Sinatra-ish. The musical parts, hard to hear the album.

Figured I pass along.

Enjoy?

I like the predictions.

I have been predicting a 91 for several years and have been wrong every year. Maybe this is the year?

Maybe a two show release on four CDs??
A lot of good shows to pick from and recorded really well.

Just saw this on Live For Live Music:

Also for sale is the ultimate experience for any devoted Deadhead, a private tour of the Grateful Dead tape vault for two hosted by Rhino Entertainment president Mark Pinkus. The winning bidder will get exclusive access to the 15,000 audio recordings, 3,000 video tapes, and nearly a quarter million feet of 16mm film stored in the Dead’s climate-controlled facility. Ahead of the tour, Dead archivist David Lemieux will speak to the winner and share his vast knowledge of the vault and its contents. The tour is valued between $1,000–$2,000. It has not yet received any bids.

No bids because nobody told us about it.

Big Rock Pow Wow!

Both shows blister with sweetness. According to reports, the band was heavily dosed for the Seminole shows (as they were on many nights)

Bookended LOVELIGHTs! Closed 5/23 with Lovelight then opened the next night with Lovelight. One continuous stream of rip-roaring explosivity. Magical psychedelia.

In the thread for 2025 over at the Steve Hoffman Forum a user posted a screen shot of their subscription order which included the date and location of #55. I won't post it because I can't confirm it; my order doesn't even include info for #s 53 and 54. (In past years my page was always kept up to date, and I was even able to see what the third and fourth releases of the year were going to be a few days before the seaside chat.) So check your order and report back. If the SHF info is true I think it will provoke more discussion than usual.

Interesting.

My order status does not reveal any additional information.

What are they showing?

Be wary of that Steve Hoffman Site and or Reddit.

Remember last year, the box was going to be The Shorelines Beacons.

Still waiting for that one.

idk if I believe that posting either. I caught one of the shows from that run, and didn't think it was particularly noteworthy.

Speaking of that forum, in another thread there is a post saying that this year's box set will be "40 years so far" and will include a stand of shows from Summer '85. Who knows.

My order status shows no information beyond the 4 releases. How would someone (emphasis on ONE) get to see the details of the first three picks? Not being familiar with the alleged #55 show I can't comment on it objectively. Only 6 months to wait to find out if it's true.

Deadvikes, I just checked that user's history at the SHF and found they had posted the Shorelines box rumor last May 29th in the thread for 2024 subscriptions. I should have done that as soon as I saw their post about #55. They clearly are trying to punk the Heads at the SHF.

#53 on its way! Don't wanna get too excited though because it usually takes a week for these things to travel what is only, what, about 400 miles. Zig zagging all over Cali as if traveling via carrier pigeon. But it'll get here when it gets here and it'll be good. Like some others have said, a good dose of '76 sound mighty comforting in these strange times.

Big Rock Pow Wow? A pretty raw (not to say ragged) performance IIRC. But if you love 69 like I do you gotta have it.
