I like Jer's voice and the sound of his guitar. There's one JGB release I really love but it escapes me now as to which one. I just kind of shuffle through them and listen without committing all of the details to memory. There's a lot up there already - at age 56 I could be at capacity - so adding more new data could begin to push the old out.

And make no mistake about it, folks - this old world ain't what she used to be (sighs).

My advice to Jer would be, don't quit your day job. Some in the know have alleged that he was a live beast and just lived to be on the road, while others assert that as captain of that particular ship he got a bigger cut and needed the cash to support his habit. Probably a bit of both... on a good night it was damn good and on a bad night it was... boring.

Vguy way to keep the metal torch burning. Metal! Turn it up to 11! \m/ God I used to love metal before I got into the Good ol' Grateful Dead and became a Grateful Dad. I still stoke my metal jones occasional... it's good music to drive fast to or get ready to compete in anything, but remains a fixture of my adolescence. Pictures in my locker from Hit Parader of Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and AC/DC along with Cindy Crawford and various SI swimsuit models.

Ah, the eighties. Now all my favorite bands are 80. What the hell happened?

    Last five:

Led Zeppelin - How the West was Won
    The Doors - L.A. Woman
    Aerosmith - Rocks
Eric Clapton - Crossroads 2: Live in the Seventies (disc 3)
Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

I was at this show. At the time, I don't remember it being a great show, but that could be that the prior show I saw (6/19/76, Download Series 4) was so spectacular. I thought the crowd was kind of flat, as well. Here's hoping repeated listens almost 50 years later will change my opinion.

10438 arrived two days late with no "Delivered" email. The USPS tracking also got less descriptive with USPS only saying "USPS facility - United States" multiple times as it moved around Denver and beyond. At least UPS still told me what town my package was in while it travelled. Postmangler General Louis Dejoy somehow survived to see his 2nd Rump administration.
Should get 1st listen tomorrow.
Cheers

Sorry, couldn't resist

Black Sabbath is awesome

Toni Iommi is a riff genius

Go listen to the track Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

Shazam!

Beavis and Butthead would approve

A benefit? In 2025?

Very cool

Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath are reuniting for one last time, to play a fund-raising concert in Birmingham on 5 July.
The band will headline a spectacular one-day festival featuring dozens of bands they inspired, including Metallica, Pantera, Slayer, Gojira and Anthrax.

Not Sabbath to me without Bill Ward. What they did to him was wrong.

Loved them in late 70's - mid 80's.

Can always look back.

Got an original first album that I bought a record store around the corner from the Marquee Club on Wardour.

Gonna have to look at that cover tonight. Bought several other Sabbath albums there. Along with Ozzy "Talk of the Devil" as titled there.

Havent searched youtube yet but has anyone watched all the GD tribute performances from Friday Nights Oscar Bash. They look like they might be tasty.

Awesome shows

I don't know how much the tickets will cost for this upcoming show, but my ticket for 3/11/73 cost £1.25. I've still got it. In fact it might be worth more now than it was then. Part of this was recorded for the live album that came out a year or so later. I was 15 at the time - an incredible experience.

Here is a non inspiring sleep fest. What a terrible release. Is this all that is left in the vault? Well enough played, not mind blowing, just bland average at best. Nice enough Let it grow, the shows obvious highlight. Stella Blue works, and that is it. Whatever Dave..

It's possible that the finest shows available for release have been released.

I haven't heard disc three, so I will withhold judgement for now

Disc 2 has one thing going for it
The MLB sequence.

Edit
Disc 3 is where the prize is

I noticed that on the customs declaration on the packaging of my Dave's 53, the value of the goods was stated as $39.98. The a la carte version of this release is priced at $29.98 at the Dead Net Store. The subscription price was, of course, lower (and even lower still for the early bird offer, which was what I bought). This is irrelevant for US punters but as a European, I have to pay VAT based on the stated value of the goods. This makes every copy significantly more expensive so the last thing needed is an incorrectly high value being stated on the customs declaration. As a result, for Dave's 53 I had to pay €16.00 ($16.60) to Dutch customs for VAT and "administative costs".
Rhino, how hard can it be to state the correct value on the customs declaration? Please get your act together and ensure this sort of thing doesn't happen in the future.
Marye, maybe you could bring this to the attention of the powers that be.

But additional tracks could have been included, agreed.

I know better than to expect a life changing show from 1976. That was a time when the Dead were trying to rein things in after it all got seriously out of hand with the WoS and the 45 minute PITBs and whatnot. Necessary, I suppose, in the overall evolution of the band, but as somebody who loves the big jams, 1976 is not going to be my favorite. I know that going in.

Still, I was hoping this show might surprise me the way DaP 28. But after about 1 1/2 listens I think it's merely OK. Good audio, everyone's in good voice, all instruments audible. Interestingly different grooves on a couple songs. Excellent versions of Might as Well and Let it Grow and FOTD. Pretty good TOO for '76. But I doubt if I'll return to this one very often the way I do those great shows from '69 or '73 when the music was pushed a good deal Furthur.

Ah well. 3/26/73 is on its way soon.

Glad to hear the Sabs will do one final show with Bill Ward. He was such a huge part of their sound in the early days and I thought it was too bad he wasn't invited to play on the 13 album and 'reunion' tour. Ticket prices will be astronomical but I probably wasn't going to Birmingham anyway. Just hope they make the show available online and/or on DVD.

What shall we say, shall we call it by a name
As well to count the angels dancing on a pin

till her daddy took the t-bird away.

Got in from hour visit at local post office. People backed up missing package and mail. One was a chief nurse at a local hospital. She was there trying to track package sent from the DEA related to re-permitting the hospital. Wow. A gent in front of me had some business mail that was lost and the clerk said you might need to file a police report to which I responded from the middle of the line, "You answered my question." Only one clerk there, so I asked him to please go get a manager. Which he did. To the gentleman that lost the business mail I made a comment as his mail was technical in nature, a physiscist at local university. I said "the Post Office needs to charge junk rates as regular mail rates. That would clear all of this up.

Wow, as I type this, postal truck in driveway, knock at door. Baby made it home. The t-bird is back.

What happened...somehow the address from warner-discovery was wrong. How can it track to correct address but address on package is wrong. How can they charge credit card with correct address and then print out a false address. Will send info into dead.net to close the loop. Also planning on emailing David Zaslov, CEO, to put forth idea discussed here last year at some point; do not label as Grateful Dead. That is way too tempting. Yesterday was looking for another GD release on ebay when the 1990 TOO box came up. Brand new $4,500. That is pretty tempting if you don't get caught. Told postal woman, "Thank You So Much," and tell the manager "Thank You" as well. She was here within 10 minutes of me making it home.

Cant wait for the weekend to dive in!

And Simon, thanks. Wonder if the will PPV or record for blu ray. Sure this will be last performance unless they all go to same nursing home. Accoustic Sabbath in the cafeteria directly after breakfast.

Spent a lot of time revisiting the infamous concert of the Who 1979 at this facility. Saw GD there in April 1989, then on to Louisville. Both were fun shows, haven't listened to either one in decades now. Need to due a tour of my own shows sometimes.

For Cincy, we stayed across the river in Kentucky. Standard test package dropped about 6 pm, then after about 1/2 hour walked across the bridge. I actually had vertigo walking across the bridge. On the way back from the show, walking across the bridge, no vertigo what so ever. We stopped for about 15 minutes and enjoyed the view. Also, based up elementary school teaching, "Never do l s d, you'll jump off of a building or bridge thinking you can fly." Glad I was not a good student in elementary school.

Back to the Who, from Wikipedia a bizarre event:

In Providence, Rhode Island, Mayor Buddy Cianci cancelled a scheduled performance of the Who at the city's Civic Center that same month.[9] This was despite the fact that the Providence venue had assigned seating.[9] In 2012, the band returned to Providence and honored tickets from the 1979 show.[

Onthebus - that 6/14/76 looks like the one for me. Thanks for the heads up.

Also 13th Floor Elevators Live in Houston 1967.
Plus, but only if you think you're hard enough, "Metal Machine Music" by Lou Reed. I got that one when it first came out. Great sleeve notes - "My week beats your year".

I always muse about how why Bobby seems to be such an asshole when conducting this crowd exercise for safety. {Truth is it's the only way it can be done quickly and efficient} I get to hear a rendition of it on the Cornell show right before Scarlet~Fire. Conversely Jerry is right there in the next breath explaining to the attendees without condescending the very technical reasoning for the crowd movement and Bobby's abrupt orders. This situation is completely different from the 1979 Who incident but it came to mind none the less.
This type of crowd tragedy can happen from time to time, but certainly in a more controlled environment it can be avoidable. Awareness and assertiveness by the folks running a show is crucial. Sometimes one has to stop the fun to address concerns of safety, that way the fun times can go on. Come to think of it now Bobby was the perfect dude for the deed!

Ole pops used to do dry January. Never tried it b4. But going from a daily beer pounder to weekends only, was a step in right direction. Speaking of, Friday's here!

Watched Saturday Night over the weekend. About the final hours b4 the first Saturday Night show October 11, 1975. Was a good movie in the sense of how unorganized, chaotic, all of it was. Even leading up to just a few seconds b4 hitting "Go Live" decision was made.

Biggest problem is the audio. Pretty Atrocious, no matter how I worked with audio settings. Some may have heard of big stink going on in Hollyweed. They know they are putting out crappy sound, on purpose. I guess a way to make you rewind or rewatch or buy or all of it. May watch again when I can record it to dvr and track down "What did she/he say?"

Today saw an advertisement for 50th anniversary of "Live from New York, it's 'Saturday Night!'" Think scheduled for a couple of weeks out. Think I saw date of 2/16 but that is a Sunday if my mind is correct. Why not have it in October?

Checked it is Sunday 2/16.

Who'll be there? Here is current list:
Adam Driver
Ayo Edibiri
Bad Bunny
Dave Chappelle
John Mulaney
Kim Kardashian
Martin Short
Miley Cyrus
Paul McCartney
Paul Simon
Pedro Pascal
Peyton Manning
Quinta Brunson
Robert De Niro
Sabrina Carpenter
Scarlett Johansson
Steve Martin
Tom Hanks
Woody Harrelson

Friday Night Concert from Radio City:

February 14

Arcade Fire

Chris Martin
David Byrne
Dave Grohl
Eddie Vedder
Jack White
Jelly Roll
Lady Gaga
Miley Cyrus
Post Malone

We were at the 89 Cincinnati show. You need to check that out again! Maybe Dave too lol
We might have met? Long short, had planned on driving back to Bu Faf that night, but ended up in a random Kentucky hotel/crash pad littered with bodies that we had to tip toe over and with just enough room to squeeze in a corner and try to rest until re-entry a few hours later.

WHO 79: saw the next night in Buffalo, very intense show. Media everywhere, recall being videoed while going through most intensive search/pat down ever up until that point, so being a drunk teenage delinquent, just had to flip off the camera. Unfortunately never saw it on the national news lol

.....in Brown-Eyed Women? Right about the 'two times over' lyric.

Wasn't sure this was at the caliber needed for a first DaP release of the year, but yeah, really is. Interplay among everyone is terrific from front to end and with plenty of *magic* in more songs than not. Sound quality too is just as strong, along with the 3D imaging in the artwork.

Back in HS when I initially started getting into GD it was through a friend that actually preferred studio over live, 'more together'. This is a show for those type of ears.

The good news is that 6/14/76 will be out on RSD vinyl. The bad news is this means I will be spending the morning of April 12 shivering my ass off waiting in line and trying to score a copy. No pain no gain, I suppose.

Also interested in the Sly Stone RSD release. Looks it live from their very early days, because it seems to be almost all RnB covers. And yet I must have it.

A word to the wise: the Mingus at Monterey they're about to reissue is a great performance, historically important one, even, but the audio is severely lacking. That concert has been reissued and remastered many times and nobody has been able to fix it. The quieter, smaller group stuff that opens the show isn't bad, but signature performance in the set, the big band debut of Mingus's Meditations, is hard to listen to. Sounds like the recording levels were just too high, and the horns are badly distorted. This is supposedly yet another remaster, but if the sonic wizards at Mosaic couldn't fix those tapes (and they couldn't) then I doubt the RSD will be any better. Not saying don't get it, but just be prepared for bootleg-quality audio.

....seeing as how it is one of my hobbies/thing that makes me happy, we stretch the budget for it. Could be worse Mrs VGuy. I could be into fast cars, fast women or gambling.
That being said, Live Phish Long Plays #'s 5 and 6 vinyls shipped. ETA Hump Day.
Personally, I would have went with 6.9.76 for RSD.
Current listening. Found my Aqualung vinyl from many years ago. On it goes because it's been wayyyyyy too long.
