Charm city was nothin' but! Clocking in at a full four hours, 33 songs, and some of the most purposeful and inspired playing the Grateful Dead ever did do, is DAVE'S PICKS VOLUME 54, the complete show from Baltimore Civic Center, Baltimore, MD, 3/26/73. A so-called underdog favorite of both Dave and Dick, 3/26/73 is packed with highs from the 17-song (!) first set, to classic covers ("Promised Land," "Big River," "Me And Bobby McGee"), early renditions of songs that would later be cemented on WAKE OF THE FLOOD ("Eyes Of The World," "Here Comes Sunshine"), the prelude to what would officially become "Weather Report Suite," and by golly, that's Wolfman Jack introducing, you guessed it, "Ramble On Rose." Limited to 25,000 numbered copies, DAVE'S PICKS VOL. 54: BALTIMORE CIVIC CENTER, BALTIMORE, MD (3/26/73) was recorded by Kidd Candelario and has been mastered to HDCD specs by Jeffrey Norman at Mockingbird Mastering.

Finally getting a chance to hear DaP 55.
I am seeing mostly positive reviews.
A few saying Oro's old saw.
Right street, wrong house, lol.
Starts out well enough with a lively Touch of Grey.
1st impression is the sound is a bit muddy but well balanced.
Both keyboards are well forward.
Cheers
More to come....
Dave saves the day being the only one who can speak French and convince the gendarmes that the reserved area is for the tapers. Oui! But who was watching his tape deck while he was walking around the venue? I'm guessing the photo of the cassettes are his personal originals.
Really nice setlist and well played 1st set! Stander On The Mountain could have been a keeper. I could see that going all kinds of improvisational places. Set 2 after lunch...
Well I'm up to Drums and loved almost all of the pre-drums, lol. Sorry, but I felt like I was the victim in that 2nd set opener. Not my cup-o-tea....
Finishes off nicely with, again, a great setlist and solid performances. I love Knockin' on Heaven's Door but I can't help but laugh when I think of the 1st time I heard it BITD in the movie it was written for, Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid where Dylan plays the character "Alias" and I think some of his lines were reading the labels of the canned goods on the shelf to keep him busy while someone has a gun on them all in the room. "Beans,.... green beans,... potatoes,... beans..." etc. Dylan was nominated for a Grammy for that soundtrack. (but not an Oscar, lol.) - RyXs
Joined:Dave's #55If this is 'soup' for a show as some has stated, well then this is Mendy's straight outta some Seinfeld episode! I relish the flavors I can discern, like on the "Touch of Grey" opener with Bobby's twangy guitar strum at the right times. Phil's tasty licks throughout as well the keyboard riffs from Vince & Bruce.
Also to go with that tasty soup are 'rolls' from Mick & Bill aplenty, a bottomless basket of them drum rolls!
Damn fine release from Dave, as usual but this is a nice debut of the era. Love the personal liner notes story too!

Joined:Web PageI totally agree with the IcecreamKid, there should be a Dave's #55 page up. There are too many good things to be stated about this latest Dave's Picks release!
First of many nuances, as it's the debut of the Vince era, & also a foreign shore show. Dave must've had this one in his back pocket so to say, grate liner notes too from himself at that. Why so long to release this one I can only wonder, well, better late than never! - RyXs
Joined:Sellin' Outski!Looks like Dave's #47 (St.Louis`79) sold out again, I thoroughly enjoyed that Pick personally. That same summer 2023 soon after the (DaP#47) original release I was able to BUY, not bid on Dave's #31 (Chicago`79) off fleabay for like the same price it would've been a la carte in 2019! Between those two shows and the bonus material from both (12/4/79~Chicago) I have spent many hours listening & making playlists. A perfect example of complimentary Dave's Picks.
My guess is the left over 'found copies' of Dave's #45 (PdXs`77) will sell out 'again' next.
Can't wait for the new Pick, and the new era it represents!

Should make for a fun Saturday night!
Second DaP in a row that I got the Saturday after the release.
No shipping notice yet
After getting used to being one of the first to get a shipping notice recently, this time, like Gerd, I have not yet received a shipping notice. Maybe Europeans are out of favour. Hopefully the mail will come soon.

Bal-ta-mor '73
As a native Marylander I always loved this show! '77 being another, which was released a few years ago.
Today is a lovely spring day in Seattle, I started the morning at Gasworks park walking the dog, baby geese everywhere, adorable. We kept our distance, the moms will f*ck you up. Now, day tops off with DaP 53 on the stereo and a cold Cloudburst IPA (best IPAs in Sea trust me) in my hand. This sounds excellent so far....
Bonus disc?
Does anyone have the track listing for the bonus disc? I can't seem to find it anywhere and I don't think I can wait until Tuesday to find out :-)
Shipping Notice for Europeans ?
I got one on the 24th. Maybe I've shot up the pecking order now Britain are no longer in the E.U.
Wrong site, but while I'm here...currently listening to 5/17/77, from the box set. First set second song - stunning version of Mississippi Half Step.

Bonus disc track listing - Thanks for the details!
A few people responded to my post looking for the track listing of the bonus disc. Thanks so much to all of you. Those are pretty much the songs I was hoping to see. That second set jam should be killer, and I'm really happy they managed to include the first set Playin' too. Looking forward to getting my grubby fingers on the discs Tuesday.

Has landed! Gonna start with bonus disc

Came is yesterday's mail. Downloaded to Itunes to drop on my Iphone. No song names just track numbers and no album title on any discs including bonus. Anyone have this issue? Not sure if it's a mistake or that's how DaP 54 came out. Gotta a little work to do!
Track Names
I had the same issue yesterday. Looks like someone populated the Gracenote database a little bit ago. Rippin’ the disks now. Just got the patio open, so this’ll help me christian it for 2025!
Hey- My disc #2 of Dave's 54…
Hey- My disc #2 of Dave's 54 glitches out for about 15 seconds during Ramble on Rose. I've tested it on three players and requested a replacement disc.
Has anyone else had this problem or am I just lucky?
Thanks.
I recall...
Seeing Scheissverkehr on stickers while living a few months as a kid (as in 1972-73) in Heidelberg West Germany
I knew its literal translation but not the idiomatic meaning
September 72 to December 73
Priceless experience
Glitch
Hey WDIHWIP. Sorry to hear that. I ripped mine to iTunes and did not have any issues. I started with the bonus disc, so I’ll give it a listen after He’s Gone and let you know.
Just played RoR straight through without any glitches. I am playing off my iPhone to a Bluetooth speaker.
Thank you RONMARLEY1 !!
Thanks RONMARLEY1. Had to google Grace Note to understand what you were talking about. You're never too old to learn! Deleted everything and re downloaded and all good. Much appreciated sir
Glad to help!
I was sitting around this morning waiting for it to warm up to do some work outside and was gonna put the titles in and upload. Decided to relax have a coffee with bourbon cream instead.
Cheers!
PS, the bonus disc is money!
Cold here too ...
But the Bonus disc is pretty hot 🔥 IMO
Avoiding being a spoiler with too many specifics ... Let's say: the Jam is "jammy" 👍
Hmmm
How, how Lord is it a strange reality that I am in San Diego roughly 100 miles from the warehouse and my copy is not due to arrive until Tuesday?
When folks 1000's of miles away have their's already. Not to mention I have subscription and will most likely get #24,999, not that I care about numbers before someone chastises me.
Longer I wait the more of a price the neighbors will pay. This could have been avoided.
As I will be away this week as part of my gig
When I get home Friday, there will be a very pleasant gift waiting for me in the mail

DMCVT
Great pictures DMCVT! Haven't listened to the release yet but it arrived today and had to look at the liners as I watched the Wolves beat the Lakers.
So cool you were there, took some photos and still had them to share with with the world.
What guitar was Jerry playing at this show? Looks like the Nash Strat, but can't tell for sure.
Anniversary show 4/27/85 Frost Ampitheatre
40 years ago I was up in Palo Alto at t?he Frost Ampitheatre, for a knockout weekend with the Grateful Dead. Two great shows, as you can hear on Daves Picks #49. What a blast!
54..
Getting ready for the new Daves with vol. 32 from the Spectrum - such a great show - Jam-DS-Sing Me Back Home - the sweetest version of this song I have heard Garcia sing.. BW to all from sunny Copenhagen..

Had the same issue. Guess that what happens when you among the first to get, no one has uploaded the info yet.
I suffered thru :-)
Uncle - Bonus Disc
It should be shrink-wrapped along with the main #54 package, at/against the back - If it's not there, then perhaps they sent you a non-subscriber's version by mistake ... 😬
Edit: Unless you ordered an extra non-sub version
Phish did not get into the Rock & Roll HOF....
.....screw that deaf tone institution. They didn't bring it up during the show last night. Instead, they let their playing do the talking.
Thanks Hollywood, for a real good time.
Now, back to reality. Ugh.
wdihwip
Thanks DeadVikes
Yes, Jerry had Alligator. The extent of my admiration?... found and applied that very decal to an old Franken-Strat here which has an early version Jeff Beck "baseball bat" neck. Thanks to art director Steve Vance for choosing from 23 grainy exposures sent, thought maybe one or two might make the cut. I dragged a camera along for a lot of 70s shows from Ry Cooder to Mahavishnu.
#19240
has landed on a beautiful spring day in the blue sky, red rock, high desert!
thanks DMCVT for those photos!
edit - Jerry's in a saw tooth pearl snap denim shirt!
Finally
I just received the shipping mail. Better late-ish than never. I had to laugh when I saw that there was a question: "How likely are you to recommend your shopping experience to another fan or friend?" To be honest, I can't recall ever having a problem with ordering, but I have read many tales of frustration, woe and disappointment from others on here. It's a bit of a pointless question as, for most releases, they are only available from here so however wonderful or abject the shopping experience is, if you want the product you have to shop here.
Shipping Notice Received
Label created today, Whittier, CA.
Expected it was on it's way by now.
Friend of the Devil - My Wild Ride with Jerry Garcia and the GD
I'm really enjoying reading Len Del Amico's new book about his time working as the Dead's "Video Guy" from 1980 through 1995. It's well written, with a great sense of humor. The book also gives a interesting insider's view of Jerry. It also provides a view of the Dead World from an outsider.
DMCVT
Thanks for the pics in the liner notes. It must have been awesome to be there!

Vol. 54 is in the house!
Serial # 16468, which BTW is not currently a valid assigned USPS zip code for anywhere.
+ Bonus Disc
So, 2 PITBs, 2 He's Gones, 2 Truckin's, 2 I Know You Riders
Well cool clear water, well you can't ever tell . . .
But . . .
But Cyndi Lauper did? Did I somehow miss how she authentically embodies rock and roll?
Girls just wanna have fun....
....home after a quick two hour stop at the Santa Monica beach for sea air and breakfast.
With the Pacific Palisades burn scars in the background. PCH is still closed.
Crash on the I 15 from Vegas to Cali caused a backup at least 20 miles from what I could gather. That sucks. Luckily I was going the opposite way.
#3994 was waiting for my arrival for once lol. I haven't heard one note of either of these shows, so looking very much forward to them.
DMCVT! That's really cool. Congrats. Can you sign my copy?
Nice Number! Got a Location?
I thought the whole reason for the announcing of cd lot numbers when received was to show other Heads where you are and how long it took the mail to get the Dave's Pick to it's destination. Kinda like a reference point for others, still waiting? I dunno, but anyways,.....
.......Just outside of PdXs Oregonia, (that means a Portland 'burb' in my lingo) on a Monday I received DaP54 #2306 and it had been in town since late Saturday. Though too late for delivery and had to wait over Sunday till now. Yeah, and the Bears on a Buffalo artwork for the bonus disc looks way cool!
16468
Right you are, RYXS!
Got my shipping notice on April 23, and #16468 arrived here today in north county San Diego, just a tumble uphill from Lake Hodges. Funny, the package was processed out of Fontana on 4/24 and arrived at USPS Escondido on 4/26, and the package arrived today with a return addy from Vista, and the USPS app still lists it as due for delivery tomorrow!
Bonus Buffalo
Starting the fun with the Bonus Disc from Beefaloo, and it sure is fine, and all the local cats give a holler during you know when in Truckin'! The sound is great. And the Playing in the Band is very nice; they waste no time at all dropping into deep purple stellar clouds of mysterious majesty. The He's Gone goes deep, and I didn't want it to end. Finest band in the land.
Anniversary show 4/28/85 Frost Ampitheatre
40 years ago (boy that time went fast) I was up at the Frost Amphitheatre for another knockout show with the Good Old Grateful Dead. Killer China Doll. Daves pick #49, a great release.
#11,974 Arrived unceremoniously in my mailbox today
Started with the newspaper clippings, better than usual news commentary on the show. One of the reviewers seemed to know quite a lot about the GD and gave an enthusiastic and accurate review, the other was quite good also. The one on Jerry's bust seemed to get some facts wrong.
Very cool pictures dmc.
Liner notes were good.
Ripping is complete, no errors, metadata came through much better than normal, required very few changes. I have this loaded on several devices, ripping some CDRs for the car. From what I can tell, the sound is exceptional.
The front cover art is very Baltimore, very cool. A couple comments on the bonus disc artwork. I have never in my life seen dancing bears that are so obviously so very, very high on acid. The eyes are wide open and all pupil, and those goofy smiles... What on gods green earth did they eat in such huge quantities.. they are going to be awake for weeks. Put down that sword before somebody gets hurt, and whose great idea was it to hitch a ride on a satanic looking buffalo with the demon eyes smoking god knows what?
Bonus Disc Cover Art
I’m a fan. Someone in the other (SH), thread mentioned the partial view of the “LOST CAT” poster on the telephone pole to the right, maybe as a reference to a Cat-less Rider. Also, I noticed the yellow bear is holding a sabre, which has to be a nod to the Buffalo hockey team. VGUY72 should appreciate that.
