Joined:OroSo my copy arrived yesterday. I’ve been putting off listening so I could watch my beloved Sabres. Who by the way still suck. I’ve waited 16 years for a playoff series victory. It’s been 27 years since I sat in the 10th row and watched them lose the Stanley Cup.
Rant over.
Thank you for this release. Nothing short of spectacular. As others have mentioned, I particularly like the early versions of Peggy-O. The China>Rider on the bonus disc is top notch as well. The audience patch during the WRS jam is a major disappointment.

.DaP 58, bonus disc, and GarciaLive 22 are all winners!

All CD’s played without error.
Now have them as ALAC files on a microSDXC card and in a music player.

Glad I bought my microSDXC cards years ago. The prices are ridiculous now. - jonathan918@GD
Joined:Omni 12/12/73#58 bonus disc. Dave does such an excellent job on theses. The aud patch on Playing is a bit jarring (as was already mentioned) but the patch isn't too long so no biggie. Hope to start 12/18/73 tonight.
I absolutely love receiving these picks four times a year. I hope the series continues for many years!!

Joined:Rest of DiP #1, good question....All fabulously played, as you can expect from late ‘73. But for what really jumped out at me:
*
TLEO- Bobby cue’s his rhythm work perfectly
*
BIODTYL- thumpy snaps and a snappy thumps both
*
Peggy-O- the early arrangement sounds like what ended up being Lazy River Road
*
El Paso- Jerry's riding fast!
*
Jack Straw- 5/5
*
Greatest Story- a micro MLBJ hidden in there
*
Row Jimmy- quite the firework show going on there in an otherwise down tempo shuffle
*
Dark Star- and then yet another micro MLBJ - 1stshow70878Joined:DaP 58 - Starting with the bonus disc
This Peggy-O is way cool.
Love the tempo and the intro.
Sound is very good so far.
Cheers
Oops, there goes a patch in Playin'.
Was this the "mini wall of sound" that I've heard about? The late November Tempe, AZ show is rumored to have had that system. 11-25-73 Feyline Field, a converted minor league baseball field venue, is pretty good IIRC.

As requested!
Here we go
Much lookin forward to this one.
is there a 4th disc?
is there?
In the pocket
Looks like a good one. A few problems at first with the order form not wanting me to put "special characters" ie number of my house in the box asking for it - or my post code where it wants a zip code, but after a few tries it all went sailing through.
Bonus disc
Not mentioned in non-subscriber track list but that is likely normal. They only get the 27 minutes of the 12-12-73 Eyes>Dew. Don't think he expounded on the rest of the bonus in the Seaside Chat, but I'll go listen again. (Did, no mention of bonus)
Cheers
Looking back at my collection the DaP bonus disc has always been on the 2nd release of the year though.
Yeah, phew
He nips that one in the Bud immediately lol
AND!
Sounds like we’re getting a tale from Dave!
As I’ve always said, road tales etc are my fav thing about this place, so nice of Dave to contribute ; )
AND!
Yeah, why hasn’t this been released before! ; )
Can’t add much to his fine description of one I’ve been waiting so long for except to say, “a real Bobbie Dazzler”….”Top Shelf where mama hides the cookies” eh!! A little RJ hockey talk as we get ready to segway into the greatest sports of the year: the NHL playoffs, which will be even better this year with this awesome GD for a soundtrack!
Game on eh!

Bonus disc wierd he didn’t mention here but he did back in December when it was announced…
Onus on the Bonus
A bonus disc was most definitely promised to subscribers. To wit: Here's from the email announcement back in December:
"For subscribers to the 2026 Dave's Picks series, Volume 58 will be delivered with the exclusive and excellent Bonus Disc, and this year we have 75 minutes from the previous show, on 12/12/73 in Atlanta, the Dead's first trip to the Omni. Add this to the material from the Atlanta show we've included on Dave's Picks Vol. 58 (that “Morning Dew”!), and subscribers are getting a good portion of 12/12/73 in Atlanta. Highlights of the Bonus Disc are many, including the first ever Grateful Dead performance of “Peggy-O,” and a massive “Playing In The Band.” It's a beauty!"
So, yeah, weird they're not mentioning it now. Would be nice to know the specific track list. But I wouldn't worry. It's a-coming,
Dave's pick 58
I absolutely guarantee this to be a GREAT release Me and 5 college buddies made a road trip to these two Tampa shows from Penn State we camped out saw both shows and then went to Disney world...where it snowed!!!
My Ticket stub will be in the Liner notes This show was AMAZING!!!!!!!
Yes
Yes
bonus disc
It's a selling point when they're doing subscriptions but the copies of 58 they're selling now don't include it so maybe no mention because of that. I think the track listing for the bonus disc is only known when it is posted by one of the lucky ones who receive their copies before the rest of us.

Super psyched for the whole DaP 58 enchilada.
Dave Chats
Usually he mentions the bonus disc material in the Seaside (or elsewhere) Chats.
I just got in and haven't had time yet to hear Dave out, maybe clues are in there. Possibly he eluded to what would be on it from the Subscription Chat, usually 2nd set stuff.
58 will be great
I haven't listened to Dick's Vol 1 in - well, I can't remember. That one goes on the priority list; it's time for a proper review.
Seaside Chat
Just watched Dave's video. It is odd that he didn't mention the bonus disc. Looking forward to playing this back-to-back with Dick's 1.
Added the Play Dead subscription too. What a great day!
Double Post
Sorry folks. Go Guardians!
You guys are getting old and forgetful
Bonus disc was discussed during the subscription period. It’s not available now, thus not discussed.

Awesome release. Red Wings fold again. WTF? First place in January.

been floating around early 69 lately having fun.
The play dead thing looks interesting but maybe a few more facts about what you’re actually getting. If it digs into the vault for unreleased material or it’s just rehashing already released with some unreleased sprinkled over the top ?
TGIF………cheers
RIP Andy Kershaw
A great DJ on BBC Radio 1 who introduced me, and many others, to a world of fantastic music. His life went a little off piste in later years but he and John Peel played the music they liked and who can ask for more
Oh yeah….
Forgot to mention the art on this one…yeah it’s another skeleton, but I like it as it looks like it should be Keef! Like in Pirates of Caribbean…oh wait, that IS Keef! Lol man he’s starting to look old! ; )
-
Red Wings? Yeah, WTF happened, I was hoping they’d make it, especially instead of “the B’s” effin goons Booooo (sorry B fans ; )
-
Yeah Conekid, always a Sabres fan…can’t help it, like a case of Herpes…for life lol
BUT!
When you move you get to have 2 favorites so also been an AVs fan as I moved here same time as them and was rewarded with the cup after 30 something years of being a Buffalo loser lol Who knows, maybe this year I’ll get my dream scenario of Sabs AVs for the cup!
Hey, a girl can dream ; )

Sorry it took the RW elimination to do so, but it sure is nice to see Angry Jack, oh, and Bob T!, Now we just need That’s Mike, Nappy, Strider, WTJ, GOGD, Otis, Rougedeadguy, Thin,TnJed, SKULLTRIP, Toomuchisjustenough, Kiethfan2112, Jeff Smith, Gratefulhan, ? Yep, Playoffs and killer late 73 (cue the Flounder line!)
RIP Andy Kershaw
I was very sorry to read of Andy's passing on this thread - though pleased to see him acknowledged. He was passionate about music, and travelled the world in search of the sound. I remember his infectious enthusiasm in the 1980's.
He went to the same school as me, Hulme Grammar School in Oldham, although he was two years younger, and I didn't know him personally. My brother did, and they both went on to Leeds University. He will be saddened to hear of Andy's death.
And hopefully prompted to get tested himself for Gods sake !
58 - Can't Wait
ready for shipping notice soon.
Gonna spend some time in 1980.
Thinking about 60's for tomorrow.
Sunday may be an ABB day. Not sure.
Glorious Day
Played golf for the first time in 20 months. Actually hit the ball better than I thought I would. Opened the patio and am sitting outside for the first time this year. Enjoying some pizza and a beer.
Don't take life for granted.
5/13/73 is the soundtrack for today: 32 songs, 4 hours and 21 minutes of Good Ol' Grateful Dead.
Edit: Sorry! Wrong thread. Damn Knob Creek Smoked Maple...
58..
So - Gentlemen; I did not buy "Play Dead" - but, will DaP 58 (and the bonus disc) be part of "Play Dead" on the day it is released ? And if so - is the full "bonus" show there as well ?

Standing in line…..
Nice weather for standing in line. Hope the line moves fast.
I’m told that there is still a copy of 6-11-76 and 3 copies of Floyd.
Edit:
1 hour in line, scored 6-11-76 but Floyd sold out.
DP 58 Coin
Was there a Coin? I thought I saw it???? Or was it A glass???
Dave’s Picks Cover Art in General
Anyone know why Dead.net never make the Dave’s Picks cover art easily available in square format for devices and digital management programs ? I always have to hunt … I don’t get it.
Cover Art for T-Shirts?
Or why they don't sell t-shirts with the cover/cover art? Seems like those would sell much better than many of the IMO unattractive shirts. Many of the Dave's Picks covers feature very striking and beautiful artwork. For example, DaP47. I've always wanted a t-shirt with the postage stamp design from Dick's 26, so great. Peace!
Dave/Dick shirts
I agree that some cover art shirts would be cool. I bought a shirt back in the day (still have it) for Dick's Picks. It has 25 So Far on the top of the back, and the picks listed under. Front has image of Dick holding a reel
They did a cool shirt for Dave's 11
One More
The Colgate 77 show. Dave's #12 super cool cover that they did as shirt
Square Dave's
Hey Pelazami and anyone needing square cover art, I usually scan and square cover art for each Dave's Picks, unless Copperdome slips me a hi-res version or a good one pops up on Reddit before my own CD copy arrives (so far I only have the gif for Dave's 58. The version on Reddit right now is kinda murky lo-res). If anyone that's interested will PM me your email address, I'll add you to my list so I can email newest Dave's covers to you directly whenever I make/get them. In the meantime, here's a link to square versions I've done of all the Dave's covers including all annual bonus CDs (The dropbox folder says "Dave's 1-22", but they're all there - just haven't been able to get dropbox to update the folder name):
.
"3W dot" dropbox "dot com slash" scl/fo/ktsh1ldsjp4xxkse2stx4/AE7F6Hjod3_nRm5dYKnjVTk?rlkey=l3a3rmooiocrpal5345pljl0t&st=jhd0kpcj&dl=0
.
And, no, I have no idea why TBTB at deaddotnet don't just include hi-res versions of cover art with the announcements and promo. Seems like for a short time (vols 20-ish or 30-ish?) they did include good, square-format artwork on the product page, but that didn't last very long.
Chuck and the Coin
It was a coin. Maybe already sold out, they only make 300 of them.
Got mine when announced.
I see ebay has one for 125 bucks.
I have an extra vol 57 one if interested. Cost plus shipping. (somehow I ordered 2?)
Pelazami
I have asked that question more than once. Don’t bother Warner is a sad state when it comes to common sense.
#59 ?
2/17/79 paired with 4/22/79. 10/31/70 paired with 10/31/69. We shall see.
Daves pix shirts
Too expensive to produce?
You can get a polo shirt that says in plain print Grateful Dead...
And that can of paint? Wuh...
Re: Furthur
The best heading to a Dave Picks so far. It might never be beaten.
I am very much looking forward to the cleaned-up version of this show. I have listened to it many times in the past, but for the last 15 years or so, I stayed away knowing it would be officially released any day now, savoring the freshie.
That day will come soon. This is a special show, and December 1973 is a special month. Savor the freshie.
Happy
I'm too lazy to log in these days. However, I wanted to log in special to say that I'm very happy this show is being released finally.
Especially for proudfoot who has been calling for its release since pre that moniker.
I can't wait to listen to it. All good things in all good time :-)
Okay back to my hole.
Welcome Back WTJ
Welcome back WTJ! It has been a while.
Good to hear from you and Bob T in the last couple of weeks.
Yes, really looking forward to this one hitting the home front soon.
Yeah…
What DV said ; )
Too many good folks that don’t hang anymore makes this a dull place…
True, my brother from another Mother
But so many of us lurk about and then jump back into the mix when so inspired by the grate banter and recommendations.
Excited for this 1973 release, I have it on CD (received from back in the day when many of us were active on the Vine thread and were sharing tasty shows)..
But this one will be properly mixed and Normanized so will be a lovely addition, esp with that extra Eyes > Dew (from a week earlier) as an extra treat. Couldn't resist.

DaP58 email notifications, up around the bend
Emails should start arriving soon.
Might As Well start pressing DaP58 to vinyl too.

Video killed the radio star.

Email
For what it’s worth I have an email saying my copy is on the way.
Colin
You may have been the first to report receiving an email last time too.
Followed by the others on that side of the pond.
.
Looking forward to this release.
the emails of glorious destiny
I've yet to receive my email, but I recall this has how it's been the last several distributions - the folks across the pond get theirs first. Then stateside folks start to see emails landing the next day. And right about the time that I'm beginning to worry, I get mine - usually on a Wednesday afternoon. Typically I get my delivery on Monday - once it landed on the Saturday, that was a blessed event. ofc I'm probably jinxing all of this by daring to talk about it, so may the four winds blow this Pick safely home.
The blessed event
In the past used to occur about a 7-10 days after the release date. But for the last couple few Daves, it's been the Tuesday after a Friday release.
So I expect that a) a small package of some value will come to me shortly not from a postal worker or even a uniformed UPS/Fedex guy but via some rando in a Camry, and b) there will be people way over in Europe who will get their copies before I do, even though I live in Cali, where you might think we would get 'em sooner, not because we're so toootally awesome (as folks say round here) but just cause we're, you know, closer? But it's clear the standard rules about time and space hang suspended when it comes to Daviverse.
Anyway ... no shipping notice yet, but I'm thinking next week. Can't wait, even though I got plenty of Play Dead shows to keep me busy.
unkle sam
I am, lost that log in and had to have another. miss him but still here
Reckoning
For those who are interested, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings are doing another four acoustic reckoning concerts, mid- August in Portland and Seattle, 2 shows in each venue.
