It looks like this is August 22 or 23? I'd love to go, and if only it was a little closer to the TTB Red Rocks dates (7/31, 8/1) I might've been able to figure out a way. As it is, I'll be back in Cali by that time.

Sorry I can't make it as health issues abound. I'm a weak old fart with COPD and wouldn't last more than a couple hours. We went to a car show last week and I couldn't even do an hour in the hot sun. That convinced me that I was wishfully thinking about the concert.
I wish you guys good weather and good times. And we will need a report afterwards to let us who didn't go live vicariously through your fun times.

Really cool scene/vibe. First guy we met getting outta the car, walks over and shakes hands and says how do (his first show Uptown 78, fall I believe) and it was everyone being that friendly the whole night! Cool hanging With Dennis and Denise too!
Super hot at first but that ole GD magic kicked in and we benefited significantly from the very dark ominous cloud cover that provided relief and fortunately no rain, er, rain would have been ok, but us locals were getting a bit apprehensive about the possible Lightning.
So sorta shady with cool breeze until late in the second set the moon popped out of the clouds hanging just above and to the right of the stage. I thought for sure we’d have gotten a Terrapin Station but that’s probably a bit much for this pick up ensemble?

Just a beautiful night in a small pine tree lined city park right on the Colorado river nestled within the steep red rock mountains. Really, like seeing a local gig in our town park only a little bigger, but I’d be surprised if there was more than a couple thousand folks.
That and very minimal production lent it a very old school vibe too.
But the sound was decent and fortunately not too loud as often seems to be the case these days. Lights were adequate, in fact, I thought the small scale production added to the cool scene more than if there’d been a larger set up etc.
kinda like how more intimate things became with Phil and Bob right after the Dead: eliminate all the extra bollocks and strip it back down to old school roots of rock and roll etc
And the music…well the music was good too, though perhaps shorter than expected.
Six songs per set with double encore, though many/most of the songs were stretched out nicely and a few even achieved lift off!
First Set
Nice easy rolling China-Rider to start, followed by a fortunately not self fulfilling prophetic Cold Rain and Snow with the crowd singing/wishing it along.
Next up a little crowd approved Bertha Boogie followed by Dark Hollow, a fine choice for the line up with String Cheeses Bill Nershi doing a great job throughout the night.
Not sure about who all else, especially the gal singer who did a fine job!
The set ended with a different, super funky like Mr Charlie to end a good, if not much full throttle lift off during the first set.
Kinda the often GD Mo of saving up for the second set

Second did have more extended and inspired playing often taking things to the next level.
Very cool, different treatment of Estimated to open and thank goodness no screaming lol
Sweet Eyes next, with the gal providing awesome vocals, with the band by now fully engaging. Really took off in the next up, yet again, slightly different, but cool Stranger, boosting things even more to the next level.
Another unique treatment, this time with Bird Song, which seemed just right, as the night came on with big dark clouds swirling and Eagles floating low in the sky above us.
Real nice Cassidy next, followed by an awesome Scarlet, perhaps the highlight of the evening, and they brought it all back home with a smoking Fire, which was some what eerie considering the location. The 94 Wildland fire that killed 14 happened here, the recent, huge Grizzly Creek that decimated the nearby canyon, and you can still see burnt trees there and on the south mountain across the river from the venue, remnants of yet another fire…

They did a very cool unusual upbeat version of Tom Thumbs Blues for the encore, and kept things rolling with a spirited GDTRFB, another crowd sing along.
My only criticism would be they could/should have played longer as things were getting just exactly perfect out and everyone was having a fine old time! And curfew time enough for more.
That and hate when venues only have one beer choice (brewery not style)
At least I’m not a fan of New Belgium which seems to have a monopoly throughout many of the states venues, bleck…drano lol But that’s nit picking, and since I am, I’d add last night just screamed Terrapin Station after the moon came out etc, but again, that’s being the picky DH!
Looking forward to see what today brings, though dreading having to be out in the brutal heat/sun : ( Like the Wicked witch of the west…”I’m melting g g g”
Hopefully we can send more intel from the front lines….

Considerably smaller crowd than even the previous evening!
Seriously, I’ve played bigger gigs!
Maybe just too damn hot, maybe just being Sunday, (yuck yuck, it was a sunny day awright), maybe the local party patrol just needed one night, maybe some folks just getting too old, which I get, had tons of fun but were whooped!
Don’t know, don’t care, it just made this scene even sweeter!

Yes the conditions were occasionally hard to handle, but there was just enough occasional, cloud cover, cool breeze moments, every now and then, from time to time to get a well earned break!
In He’s Gone it was so noticeable it was spooky like Jer, Phil, ? knew we all needed it and of course that old GD magic, it fit right in with the music/vibe during the outro etc
Oh yeah, the music…in a word: SHAKEDOWN!
First set was nice, interesting etc, but maybe not full thrusters yet.
So sorta standard mo…
Hell it was too damn hot, the band even had 3 tents set up over themselves, though that may have been in case we got the intense thunder storms that were predicated? (And they were removed before the second set…bet it sounded weird under there also?)
Fortunately, storms didn’t happen, rain might have been fun, but mountain lightning in this setting could have been severe/dangerous.
As apparently there had been a accident on the interstate about ten miles west, (now backed up over twenty miles) and being punished by Murphy for being a bit late—(poor Dennis and Denise probably wondering where the hell we were half the time lol)—we of course got stuck in a parking lot on I70 (though a very beautiful parking lot in the canyon lol)
So after like 40 minutes to go ten miles, of course Murphy opens up the traffic now that we’re finally at the exit ; )
But being such a small event we were in the lot across the street in a couple minutes and could hear the Jack Straw opener walking over just fine! Very nice version by the by.
Heard one old top say it mighta been best one he saw. Not sure I’d go that far, but it did get everyone up and boogying despite the weather! Hell with the huge number of eagles overhead, “the sun so hot” lyrics I guess it was just exactly perfect lol
They kept things snappy with a nice BEW, but then things went w a a a y y down with FOTD, followed by He’s Gone. These had a portion of the crowd blabbing away, something that happened a couple times this WE during slower tunes? Guess more a party crowd, a shame…those tunes were good too, and yeah, you have to bring the dynamics down occasionally as you can’t just keep going up etc
So they did a nice job with the dynamics and contrast.
Really, the sets were laid out well, just wish they played a bit longer, and no St Steve or more of the extended and weird stuff I know he can do. Certainly some of that might be a bit much for these pickup gigs, though for most you’d never know that otherwise.
Both nights were pretty much one hour first and 1.5 second set with about ten minutes of encore, so about an two hours and forty minutes with half hour break…
So they brought it back up a bit with a nice Rosalie McFall, which many folks thought was a cool choice. Then, Heavy rocking Deal, with Special Guest of the night, Tom Hamilton of JRAD doing his thing. He and Billy Paine (of Little Feat, other special guest) most certainly added a whole lot of different flavor to the mix. And the supremely unusual and funky Quinn the Eskimo was a top highlight of the show to close the set. Even TOO was up and boogying!
Second Set
LOS’ Bluegrass Pines to open, which I’m not sure I’m familiar with, but enjoyed.
Interesting Wheel next that segwayed efficiently into another highlight, another unusual, TLEO, very nice! But train kept a rolling into a fun crowd hopping Franklins, and very nicely using above said dynamics, slid into another different but sweet, PEGGY O!
But then, then the real Bobbie Dazzler of the night, the WE?….
Shakedown Street! Nobody seemed worried about it being too hot anymore lol smoking!
Somewhere here or there or everywhere, little teeny Dark Star teases were being quietly taunted, definitely before/during the double encores
But first, a fine Box of Rain to end the set.
Then I believe an impromptu, but nice and fun, Dixie Chicken sung by Billy Paine, followed by TOO’s favorite, Ripple, which was a nice way to end this occasionally meteorologically challenging, but otherwise tremendous WE, at one of the coolest spaces I’ve perhaps seen a show at in almost fifty years of shows. Or maybe I just need to see more live music again lol.
I’d say both, either way, winner winner chicken dinner, and a good time was had by all!

It’s interesting at this point, because there’s been so many band versions over the decades now, that there’s a plethora of time specific artifacts i.e.,tee shirts etc.

I found a 8/23/26 Set II video stream from yesterday by Deadheadland from the rail on facebook. I don't have an account and can't play it on the desk top (which I in fact haul on the road when not camping) but it's playing on my phone - we'll see how long it goes? Bluegrass Pines > The Wheel so far. Bluegrass Pines by Billy Payne w/ Robert Hunter lyrics?! Phone bluetooth isn't ideal but its something. No doubt that Shakedown was still picking up steam!

But I was surprised by my wife getting us tix for that Terrapin Roadshow on Sunday.( Mary surprised me in a similar fashion last year grabbing Phish tix at Folsom prior to our annual String Cheese Dance Party.) Yes, I am lucky man!
Spectacular show after spectacular show. The virtuosity and innovation with the Grateful Dead songbook (along with other band's tunes as well) fully charged my batteries.
But Sunday hearing and watching as Graham Lesh sang "Box of Rain" to finish us off was emotional for me and the tears of joy (and of loss) flooded with welcome elation.
Phil's son (watched by his brother off stage) delivered that profound message that his father told us so many years ago.
And to answer Marye, yes the crowd seemed to have a disproportionate number of us with a "touch of grey" (or in my case, white) but I did see a range of ages with the remainder of the crowd. I would add that the Joe Russo's Almost Dead shows had a greater variety of ages in attendance. I am guessing those younger seeking their 'Dead' experience".
More power to them all!
So very grateful (pun intended) for the variety of those GD inspired jam band concert experiences available these days. I was a little depleted and was a long drive home from Glenwood Springs yesterday.
Wish I could have met up with you brothers to chat, perhaps next time I will be informed on my agenda? After 46 years she still surprises me.

Very nice time. GREAT venue. No hassles getting in,,, a quick pat down of bags for glass, but NO pat down of people!

Downside to venue, not a cheap area. We stayed right in Glenwood at the Maxwell, nice place but 400 a night, plus parking (20 bucks) and no free breakfast. All the surrounding restaurants were pricey, breakfast could easily run 50 bucks with tips.

The show itself was very good,,,, most songs felt like 80's shows, but Rosalee Mcfall was unexpected and very nice.

First night I thought Stranger was the standout. I might even say best I ever heard. (as my friend Ken would say,,, great Stranger or greatest Stranger)

A couple of things stood out in my edible filled mind, first folks with "little kids" (under 10,,, maybe a few 5 year olds) just running around loose. I wondered how many other shows would parents just let their young kids run free and not worry about them. Like they knew other folks would watch out for them also.

I couldn't believe how low attendance was,,, saturday maybe 2,000, sunday was under 1,000 I thought. Thought maybe it was an "unknown" band. Others, like JRAD are more known.

The crowd was mixed, you notice old folks like me and kind of expect it. There was fair amount of young folks, maybe not alive when the dead played. But they knew the tunes, you see them dancing to the songs and bopping at the right time, but you could see their lips move to the lyrics', THEY KNEW THE SONGS.

This told me the future of Deadheads is strong.

I'd go back to Glenwood, was worth the 15 hour drive.

We hit Steamboat Springs to visit a buddy. Same deal price wise. Both these places were resort ski areas so expect higher prices.

The drug stores in Colorado were nice, I hit about 4 of them. Each seem to have "different" name brand products. Prices weren't bad, per se. I really didn't watch those prices, I brought cash to buy and I bought.

Surprised meeting..... head shop I went to in Trinadad, guy looked at my license and said he lived in Plano before Colorado. (I asked where and he named streets, so I knew he wasn't lying!)

Then coming out of a rest stop and I saw a car with a Jersey plate,,,, asked where from in Jersey and he replied a little town,,,, Watchung. I said I knew the town and we looked at house in that town. I then asked if he knew this guy,,,, he was shocked and said yeah he was a neighbor!

So small world.

I'm keeping an eye out for this tour to be released on Nugs. Soundboard guy said shows were uploaded to something and that wasn't his side of the house, but he thought they be for sale "somewhere".
