I believe in informed choice, that said back to the sonic

stylings of a band called Furthur.Phil continues to have the time of his life, He is at that top of his performing game and draws the best from all around him. Bobby was in better form that the prior two years (in my humble opinion) John seemed so much more spontaneous, I heard more original runs, leads and his vocals (Morning DEW!) were consistently heartfelt Joe is a force of nature, (volcanic perhaps) and Jeff is just everywhere, command of the keys extraordinaire. And these back up vocalists really nail it, this is a componet that is a terrific addition to the sound. They are such a welcome compliment to the lead vocals and chorus on the songs we love so much Catch Furthur if you can, they are transportive, This is simply the best Furthur I have ever heard. Travel safe, and pack your own snacks. Nuff said. Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself. .

Interesting to note the divergence of opinion....

On people being unknowingly given drugs at shows. I'm clearly in favor of choice. However, the people offering may have had a good heart and motivation , perhaps caught up in nostalgia. Their decision was inappropriate. Food is food, Drurgs are drugs..

there is a pretty wide range of sophistication or lack thereof in Dead Head crowds and it's not reasonable to expect everyone there to have street smarts (but then, I view "prankster" behavior of this sort as assault, pretty much. Calling yourself a prankster is no excuse for wantonly messing with the sanity of strangers any more than it's an excuse for driving drunk). And somehow I doubt the person who passed this stuff out at the Wharf Rat table was forthcoming about the contents, and to hand the stuff to known Wharf Rats is beyond nasty. All else aside, this sort of shit destroys the mutual trust that in my lowly opinion is about the most precious commodity that Dead Head audiences have over the rest of the world. I can't count the number of times I've shared food and drink with strangers in line or at shows, and I never poisoned them and they never poisoned me. I think that's how it should be. Yes, you have to be responsible for yourself, but you shouldn't have to go to a Dead show with your armor on either. Choosing to dose is one thing, and God bless you. But it's not a choice you get to make for other people in my opinion.

Don't Take Candy From Strangers

I'm not condoning dosing of the unwitting, but this was at a Furthur show, which is known by many to be a psychedelic scene (never trust a prankster, right?), so folks should be on their toes about this sort of thing, but even if they aren't knowledgeable about what to expect at a Furthur show, then there's always the conventional wisdom found in the subject line of this post. And for the record, I've been alcohol-free for almost 20 years, and the last GD shows that I attended, I did so as a Wharf Rat. Again, I'm not condoning dosing, but I will make some noise about people taking responsibility for themselves, which is one of the main things that I've learned in recovery from alcohol and hard dope.

My point, at least

is that reports indicate that not all people who ate the chocolates were doing so as an informed choice of what they were getting, and having personally known someone who was really messed up for a long time by being unknowingly dosed with who knows what at a show, I'm pretty strongly of the belief that dosing people without their knowledge and consent is pretty vicious.

Chocolate items

Friday at Redrocks, a friend of mine thinks he may have been dosed unknowingly (beer cup ?). Saturday, a friendly blond woman, 30-ish, offered neatly packaged rectangular chocolate bars including mushroom ingredients. She also offered round cups, in green foil wrap, similar to a peanut butter cup. I don't believe she'd have purposely given one to someone without the recipient knowing what the "candy" really was, I stuck with the Dale's Pale ale...

Don't get me wrong there should be security but they should stick to searching for weapons and glass bottles - you know, things that can hurt people. So sorry to hear your sad tale, especially considering these were the same 'security' so totally unprepared on Friday, and let all those without tickets into the campground for free.They really let the ball drop, and then I suppose needed to make up for it on Sunday? I read on the local Angels Camp on-line newspaper that the cops were really bent out of shape about the lack of security, and they must have read them the riot act, which led to your sad incident with a surely over-zealous worker at the gate. We went in and out numerous time over the weekend, and they never did more than squeeze my backpack looking for glass bottles. Over 60 people were arrested at this event. I'll never go there again.

Never did like Vermont - they have bumper stickers that say "Thanks for visiting Vermont, don't forget to leave." Always figured I'd rather forget to visit in the first place, and take my vacation dollars elsewhere.Looking forward to Lowell on 6/30!

Anyone heading to the Outside Lands Fest in August. Never been to it before. I was thinking of heading up and making a little vacation out of it. Have you been to it before? Is it a good time and/or what should I expect?

Lame ass Vermonsters!!

There are a lot of Deadheads in the Burlington area and in Vermont. I'm one of them. When I first heard that Furthur was going to play at the Shelburne Museum I was delighted and confused at the same time. Delighted because it was going to be a small, intimate venue and confused because, given the popularity of the band, this was NOT a good choice to play. Unfortunately, I think this is a hangover from the 94-95 Highgate shows. Out of control crowds and tons and tons of trash all over the place did not endear the Grateful Dead to the locals. I think they failed to take into account the fact that it's 15 years later and a sold out show does not mean lunacy because we all got a lot older and tamer -- well, most of us anyway. Vermont is a very beautiful place and nobody wants to see it spoiled. They don't want anymore new people moving in because "the flat-landers" could gain control of the political process and change things. It's a hillbilly mentality. It was the hippies moving back to the land in the 70s that has given Vermont it's juicy quality (artists, artisans, craftspeople, meditation centers etc., etc.). On behalf of all the Deadheads in VT I would like to apologize for stupid, backwards-looking townies and staties who took it upon themselves to ruin for everyone. This would have been one of the more friendly and scenic stops on the tour and Burlington is a jewel of a city. We'll see if they shut down Rhyth Devils in Burlington in August. Please don't label all Vermonters Vermonsters. The idiots are few and far between.

Rochester!

What a way to kick off Summer Tour!!! Rochester is a beautiful small town, with a gorgeous park, and in the middle of Highland Park there is a beautiful bowl that fits 6000 perfectly. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, they provided us with rolling grassy parkland to tailgate in all night, and there was NO SEARCH upon entry. Beautiful people, most mature and kind, grooved steadily to some sick jams... Here Comes Sunshine, Stranger, Feelin Alright, Cosmic Charlie, New Potato Caboose... Thank you FURTHUR for a cookin show and to the city of Rochester for putting on a dignified family picnic. Show 'em how it's done! See you at ArtPark!!!!!!! (~);)

Can anyone confirm the start time for tonight's Lowell show? Most sites show a 6pm start. I've also seen a couple references to 7pm. Does anyone have an idea?

Furthur show coming to VT?

The promoters again apologized to the community for having to cancel the show and announced that their venue, Higher Ground, would host a GD tribute by local area musicians this coming Monday. Sweet way to end the holidaze. As well they said they are hoping to bring Furthur to the area at an indoor site. Let's hope. The recordings of this summer have been worth the price of admission. ~ Kite's on ice since the first of February ~

I loved the new phil tune I heard at furthur it totally rocked! A high point of the night was after the beautiful sunset when bits of seedlings and pollen began floating through the air and dancing in the lights. By the time Fire on the mountain rolled around it was full on snowing in June and just Looked like ash from a volcano floating down and didn't stop for almost the whole show! What a special nite!

Hey Al et al., As for wishes, hard to say. That first show was a beauty and I don't wanna push my luck. Wishing for a Terrapin suite, though they've just played it recently... Help, Let it Grow, Eyes, same thing. They haven't played Candyman or Til the Morning Comes yet, both songs I'd love to hear live. I'm hoping they'll breakout Crazy Fingers at ArtPark. I love grooving to the funk so Music Never Stopped would be welcome, I'm also a Shakedown fanatic... Easy Wind, Alligator... heck I'll take anything! As mentioned before, CanHead convergence will likely be at one of the picnic shelters. Look for the maple leaf stealie flag. We'll be jammin and warming up the park. Hope to see you there!

Is there a place to find the lyrics of original furthur stuff that is being played? I was listening to XM last week and missed the introduction but I thought the song was "wooly bully" or something that sounded like that. I listened to the song as there was a line about a "buffalo" or something like that! Does anyone know what i am talking about. I know furthur played a couple of "new songs" during their April tour and I dont know if this was an old dead tune or something new from furthur! Just wondering????? And no......it is not the wooly bully song from back in the day!

Good Golly! They was kickin' it up in Canada! Seems to be where they peaked on the summer tour. I'm wondering about ramblin'up to the Polo Fields this August but they seem to be hitting and missing and I'd hate to make the rip for a mediocre show... What about it Bob & Phil & JK?
