2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the Grateful Dead's eponymous debut studio album. What better way to celebrate than with a special album reissue series that will include two-disc deluxe editions and limited edition vinyl picture disc versions of all the group’s studio and live albums!

THE GRATEFUL DEAD was recorded and mixed in five days before its release in March 1967. It captures the Dead's early sound with a mix of electrified jug band stomps ("Sitting On Top of the World"), Chicago blues ("Good Morning Little School Girl"), crazed modal improv ("Viola Lee Blues"), and Dylan-y put-downs ("Cream Puff War").

    I'll have to check
Of the 3 i ordered 2 had the seams split, haven't listened to it yet... will check, the solution would be to use a heavier grade plastic to house the record, then all the jostling of the vinyl in transportation would not create a split in the seams.

    Cheezy plastic sleeve
I addressed my dissatisfaction about the cheezy plastic sleeve the disc arrived in to Dave Lemieux. He did get back with me assuring me he would pass the word on to RHINO. I mentioned there were a few dissatisfied customers expressing themselves on this site regarding the lack of an actual album cover. Perhaps if a few more of us took the time to write Dave at vault@dead.net maybe we can get RHINO to produce some actual covers and let us order them via our order #'s. Be polite, please.

I to received the disc with a split sleeve. I haven't had any issues with the recording itself. In fact, I was quite surprised to not hear any anomalies. Maybe, try tightening your ground wire to see if the background noise diminishes. I recommend we petition RHINO to produce a real album cover, and create a link where we can provide our order #s and request an actual LP cover with a spine, so that we can find it in our vinyl collection.

I have yet to hear a high quality colored vinyl. While I own a half dozen it is only for aesthetics. This will probably be 1.

Mine also came with the plastic sleeve split open from the record sliding around. Terrible packaging. I also thought I would actually be able to listen to it, but the picture results in a dull background roar, particularly noticeable between songs. I guess I'll just have to frame and display it.

It obviously takes all sorts otherwise the world would be boring - for me vinyl almost always sounds much better than CD (if it has the right ingredients and acre taken) and I would have liked a vinyl version of the 2 CD set and not a gimmicky picture disc - hey ho it will save me some money :) - maybe a half-way house wth a hi-rez download option?

This Album does not come with an album cover just a lame plastic sleeve that was already split when I opened the box. Yes I know this is a novelty item but how do I store this without getting ruined. Not happy at all and I never complain about products I buy $32 bucks and no album cover. COME ON RHINO RECORDS we spend a ton of money on new releases. Sorry to vent on my first post but this is unacceptable!
