Joined:Companion to Smiling on A Cloudy DayNow that I think about it, I think it’s a good campion to Smiling on A Cloudy Day from a few years back. I get these as LPs too. As for the Scarlet/Fire pairing that was too tempting not to do. Although it works just as well as Scarlet/Estimated/Fire sticking with chronological order. For streaming playlist I’ll play around with that. Had it been a double album I would’ve included: Eyes, Franklin’s, The Music Never Stopped, Alabama Getaway and/or Althea, Feel Like A Stranger, Hell in A Bucket, Throwing Stones, Standing on the Moon and /or Black Muddy River. Maybe a Brent tune: Easy to Love, Far From Me, or Blow Away.

I was very young and glad to have a taste of Jerry and the boys. I played the hell out of it and eventually everything happened….but I think it’s missing St. Stephen. That was my fav from Skeletons, but it now has Scarlet and Box of Rain…Although there is still a place in my heart for Rosemary. I might just get it!

I've made many Dead playlists and used the beautifully sung by Donna song that as far as I know they never played live, and that is a shame. I've never done a proper search though. Maybe there will be a sequel cd to come? - wave-that-flag

As for OOP, had to go through a closet of junk under the stairs to locate my Grateful Dead Movie Soundtrack mini-box? which I guess I never ripped. Is the Cow Palace release OOP too? Thought that was one of Rhino’s first releases. Gotta rip that too I suppose.
My last turntable was first year of college. Was listening to that hot new band out of Athens GA at the time. It’s Chronic Town, Jake.

New Release
I don't understand this release.
Umm...
I hope this isn't what Dave was describing as "lots of other good stuff coming out this year", lol.
Cheers
Greatest hits
Seems they're really trying to reach out to new fans in this their 60th year...
Ha, ha
This is exactly what he had in mind. I'm 55, old tour head like me is being farmed out for new kids with more decades of buying power ahead.
Studio?!!!
Studio recordings? Well, I suppose that's how I first heard The Dead but still.
I think every so often there has been some sort of compilation of Dead music, though most were live recordings. I think most connesuiers tend to go for the multitude of live stuff, it's how The Dead got circulated in the old days. From the old tape trader days to Dick's, Road Trips, and now Daves, it's all live behbay!
Anyways,... The concept of this compilation album I guess is fine and all, but the selection seems a little light. Like this should've been at least TWO discs, the fact they're shorter studio recordings you probably could fit quite a few more songs.
Truthfully they should've had '(et al.)>>Frank's Tower' and 'Music Never Stopped' from Blues for Allah~1975. Maybe 'Sunshine' and 'Row Jimmy' from Wake of the Flood~1973. Probably them Phil songs from Mars Hotel~1974. There should be some more Brent Era tunes such as 1980's 'Feel Like a Stranger' and others, including Brent sang songs. All Pig Pen's songs would suffice but 'Easy Wind' at the very least, probably more,...... Oh yeah, the Grease Era albums too. Yeah this should've been maybe THREE discs!
Like a gateway drug…
But hey, lots of folks got on the bus via Skeletons From the Closet, so why not!
Does seem a tad light? Can’t believe no Ripple?
Playing to the times, and times like these NEED a Ripple!
Otherwise not a bad offering for curious Civilian’s though.
Strange release
They made some great studio albums, but picking individual tracks from them and compiling them out of context isn't going to win any new friends. I wouldn't have thought that anyone hearing The Dead for the first time by listening to something like this would feel inclined to hear any more.
These sort of things only really work for bands that had loads of genuine hits singles that weren't included on albums.
Or tracks, singles or otherwise, that are more obscure, and would cost a fortune to collect individually. Like the first Nuggets comp.
odd
very very odd
PTB: really?
I don't want or like to hate....but seriously?
My journey to the magic bus was hearing Truckin' on the radio over the years then Mike took me to 7/18/82 then I got Skeletons from the Closet and the rest is history, albeit my history.
truly odd.
that is all...
New Release
I don’t understand this either. Nor do I understand how someone misspelled “greatest” as “gratest” and no one caught it throughout the process, including printing?
There’s gotta be a joke I’m not understanding.
I just got it. Dammit.
I just got it. Dammit.
Y'all be cool, Ironbee
:)))
Really?
This is the solution to a compilation that no one thought we needed. Seriously, Dave?

...just purchase;
that included LITHO
sure would look GRATE
hanging on a wall
in the listening room
just sayin'
Grate not Great
It's a play on words. GRATEful doh
What I don't understand is the pricing. A limited edition vinyl with a lithograph at the same prices as a single CD with no extras?
Golden Road
Pity that wasn't a hit. Fresh in at number 1, all the way from San Francisco....
