As for Obama running, what a relief it would be to have that much sanity returned to the white house. I bet Michelle might have something to say about it also. I can only imagine what that run up to the election would look like. Wow, what a juxtaposition.
I love the quote someone recently said, I forget who.. and am paraphrasing to best of my memory.
Why are we giving $20 to $40 Billion dollars to Argentina, because I have a funny feeling most of the current administration will be moving there after he leaves office.

However, this perpetrator only cars about himself. You know, humans have a hard time admitting when they are wrong. Lord knows the folks who voted him back in, are sure as hell unable to admit it!!EDIT: Also, all those other peretrators who are currently behind him in everyway (Spear Of The House, etc) are in for a rude awaking when he's gone. As no one else, IMHO, is going to be able to manipulate and get away with, what the orange turd has
Personaly, I think we will weather this storm. Even though the damage is already at a devastating amount, I'm choosing to keep the faith!!

Good news for now.
But this is a short-term win, this is a cancer that will either grow or be beaten.
Thought for a day, this $300M to $500M grotesque out of the blue ball room is not being built for the next president. It is being built for this president, but it's estimated completion date is not until the end of his term (same with the $1 billion retrofit of Air Force One) and apparently, he really likes his new gold and marble crapper room. He's not planning to leave.
The system, as they like to say, is being rigged, little by little, day by day. Watch this and make noise when the election process is not fair and not legal.

Think globally, act locally. Locally we did a successful recall election of an idiot county commissioner who was as Trumpy as it gets. And this in a county where we have only a third of the the electorate on our side. Sweet success!
And my state voted to bring back free school lunches, Including working with local farmers to get fresh local products to the schools, pay our school cafeteria workers more, and give any monies leftover to SNAP. All from a new tax. Unfortunately all 4 local school board candidates on the Trumpy side won. But at least the board is not all bad (yet).
Democratic sweep on election night nationally. The 2 governors, NYC mayor, and CA prop. 50. Very encouraging in these trying times. We can do this thing!

These words have stuck with me for years.
There's a Vietnam vet with a cardboard sign
Sitting there by the left turn line
The flag on his wheelchair flapping in the breeze
One leg missing and both hands free
No one's paying much mind to him
The V.A. budget's just stretched so thin
And now there' s more coming back from the Mideast war
We can't make it here anymore
And that big ol' building was the textile mill
That fed our kids and it paid our bills
But they turned us out and they closed the doors
'Cause we can' t make it here anymore
You see those pallets piled up on the loading dock
They're just gonna sit there 'til they rot
'Cause there's nothing to ship, nothing to pack
Just busted concrete and rusted tracks
Empty storefronts around the square
There's a needle in the gutter and glass everywhere
You don't come down here unless you're looking to score
We can't make it here anymore
The bar's still open but man it' s slow
The tip jar's light and the register' s low
The bartender don't have much to say
The regular crowd gets thinner each day
Some have maxed out all their credit cards
Some are working two jobs and living in cars
Minimum wage won't pay for a roof, won't pay for a drink
If you gotta have proof just try it yourself, Mr. CEO
See how far $5.15 an hour will go
Take a part time job at one your stores
I bet you can't make it here anymore
There's a high school girl with a bourgeois dream
Just like the pictures in the magazine
She found on the floor of the laundromat
A woman with kids can forget all that
If she comes up pregnant what'll she do
Forget the career and forget about school
Can she live on faith? Live on hope?
High on Jesus or hooked on dope
When it's way too late to just say no
You can't make it here anymore
Now I'm stocking shirts in the Wal-Mart store
Just like the ones we made before
'Cept this one came from Singapore
I guess we can't make it here anymore
Should I hate a people for the shade of their skin
Or the shape of their eyes or the shape I'm in
Should I hate 'em for having our jobs today
No, I hate the men sent the jobs away
I can see them all now, they haunt my dreams
All lily white and squeaky clean
They've never known want, they'll never know need
Their shit don't stink and their kids won't bleed
Their kids won't bleed in their damn little war
And we can't make it here anymore
Will work for food, will die for oil
Will kill for power, and to us the spoils
The billionaires get to pay less tax
The working poor get to fall through the cracks
So let 'em eat jellybeans let 'em eat cake
Let 'em eat shit, whatever it takes
They can join the Air Force or join the Corps
If they can't make it here anymore
So that's how it is, that's what we got
If the president wants to admit it or not
You can read it in the paper, read it on the wall
Hear it on the wind if you're listening at all
Get out of that limo, look us in the eye
Call us on the cell phone, tell us all why
In Dayton, Ohio or Portland, Maine
Or a cotton gin out on the great high plains
That's done closed down, along with the school
And the hospital, and the swimming pool
Dust devils dance in the noonday heat
There's rats in the alley and trash in the street
Gang graffiti on a boxcar door

I highly advise that everyone attend their local group. Amazon sells phone protectors made by Faraday that blocks RFID signals and jams signals btw for under twenty bucks.
Turn out here in June was impressive. I expect double the attendance.
MAGA mad because Bad Bunny cancelled his US tour due to ICE raids and military in the streets. Dude has a lot of fans and is Puerto Rican. AKA American. Reminds me of Taylor Swift. Who also has a lot of fans, is American and pissed off MAGA because trump said they should.

To everyone who thought P2025 was a myth, may I present....

Trump, posting to Truth Social, said the Vought meeting will "determine which of the many Democrat Agencies, most of which are a political SCAM, he recommends to be cut, and whether or not those cuts will be temporary or permanent."
I would say I told you so, but I'm tired boss and I'm sick of trying to explain the obvious to stupid people.

Looks like they are going to take another wrecking ball to the Government during the shutdown. What could possibly go wrong? They are openly discussing targeting blue states for job cuts and projects to gut. Congress, not the Executive Branch, is granted the power to make these changes. Laughing at Serious situations
Maybe it depends how serious it is. My neighbour always makes me smile when he kicks off if someone parks their car outside his house. He was born in that house you know - and now he can't park outside his own front door ! T'ain't right at all.
Always dangerous to crack a smile at a funeral.
Could be both
Yes, a person can be smart in some ways and "dumb" in others because intelligence isn't a single, monolithic trait. People can have deep expertise in one field while lacking common sense or knowledge in another, and even the smartest individuals can make mistakes or act foolishly when under stress, lacking experience, or making assumptions.
I've spent my life warning people that this day was coming. I was meet with mountains of ignorance that still goes on too this day, and it's just like any other day... I have been pretty serious about things.

I am taking some pleasure in seeing the crew returning to this forum. And I had been exercising my paranoia figuring that TPTB had Jimmy Kimmel'd this place.
Wrong again, on that particular point. But it's good to remember that, in terms of the "externalities," shall we say, you're not paranoid if it's true.
That said, it ain't over til the fat lady sings, so I'm marching, voting, speaking my mind.

The key for me...
Is to continue to pursue a positive mental attitude in the midst of the horror. This is a challenge. It might sound trite, but music is one force that helps me. Specifically, I just started drumming lessons and got a 5-piece kit, adding to my pursuit of guitar skills. Just working out on the rudiments helps get me an hour or two of peace. Like tripping, the key for me is to take the strength and peace from the experience and bring it to help others or just to maintain that PMA as we figure out how to end or at least badly hobble the madness.
Just thought I'd share what positivity I have to offer this rascally gang of ours. Just reconnecting with y'all here is a positive thing. Thanks again, marye!

A Couple Things
First, Never underestimate the power of humor. Why do you think they are targeting the joke makers first?
Second, on the Senator's comments about South Carolina, I would like to commend the residents and leadership of SC for embracing diversity and welcoming all the new kids with freckles to their schools this fall. It warms my heart to see people embrace diversity with such open arms and genuine affection. A friendly tip of the hat. (sorry, more satire)

or perhaps Baron Bomburst in the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. And except for that full head of hair, Steven Miller would make an excellent, sinister child catcher. Replace that covered jail on a wagon used in the movie with the makeshift cages they build to house children separated from their parents inside the border detention facilities during the first administration. An Abominable action that will not age well, another dark moment in our past.
In the movie, Baron Bomburst was played by German actor Gert Fröbe who also played Gold Finger in the James Bond film. Too weird, they are both inflatulated with gold. We can turn this whole unfortunate affair into a great Disney movie when (and importantly if) this nightmare ever ends.

Bullseye! The only thing I can't joke about is ... The Grateful Dead. Nothing absurd going on there? That's some serious chitty chitty bang bang!? I watch a lot of sitcoms they have been all over the absurdities for years.
humour in The Dead
Fourwinds - for the first time I have just started watching that Long Strange Trip film. I have just seen the first 3 episodes, and there is a sense of foreboding as 1972 draws to a close. But one off the things Jerry repeatedly emphasises at the beginning is that having fun was one of the main reason for starting and carrying on with The Dead
Humor & The Grateful Dead
I think there's a great Jerry quote in there somewhere that I cannot remember word for word. Jerry was sitting around with I think either Weir or Phil (or both) laughing hysterically at themselves and Jerry said something to the effect of, "No, this Rock and Roll is not the thing, we are here for the comedy. The band is just a ruse until the comedy thing starts paying"

Embedded in the current administrations bumbling tariff policy that infuriates all and helps few, China has decided to buy Soybeans from Brazil and Argentina. Thanks to a $20 billion dollar stabilization fund for Argentina (because, well, why shouldn't we support every last wannabe, DOGE supporting, chainsaw yielding, completely insane dictator with giangantic Dictator-worthy sideburns) Argentina temporarily suspended it's export tax on soybeans to China. You see where this is going, this allowed them to compete on price and undercut our exports. You see, Argentina used financial aid to temporily at least freeze taxes on soybeans and secure a large export deal with China freeing up their need to buy Soy from the US. Make sense?
So my point, we are likely about to pay farms to plow their crops under because, well, some dictators love tariffs. Why not pay the farmers not to plow them under but to harvest the soybeans and fill up some of those USAid warehouses and feed some of the poor in Gaza and Africa. Or on Earth 2, we could just plow them under the ground and pay farmers not to produce. Your call.
Edit: I could have tripped over DaveRocks comment. I'm not sure where I saw that Jerry comedy statement, could have been long strange trip, could have been something around the Dead Ahead film, it all rolls into one. In any case, good discussions.
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
First the Good. The gift that keeps on giving, NASA. Estimates vary, one conservative estimate states that for every dollar spent on NASA and space technology, we get a $3 return in the form of economic growth. How? Spinoff technologies like scratch resistant lenses, cordless tools, solar cells LEDs, cochlear implants, water filtration technology, anti-fog lenses, memory foam, GPS, etc. The list is long.
The Bad.
The current administration is recommending a 47% budget cut to NASA. This as China has planned an aggressive expansion in it's space efforts. They are going crazy.. (one country gathers what another one spills). Nothing wrong with that I guess, but this is not good for democratic nations (well, us). It's just stupid. I can think of one person, an oligarch, one of the richest people on earth perhaps, that will benefit greatly. One of the few that thinks a cyber truck looks sporty.
There's an old adage, never outsource something of stragic significance to your well being.
And the Ugly. Well.. Stephen Miller has already been mentioned in previous threads. The Darth Vader of modern politics.
Absurdity
It seemed to me a lot the experience of weed and psychedelics was absurd. I used to find it hard to stop laughing when I first had a toke, in my mid teens, going out into the outside world. The simplest question used to have me in hysterics. And the more seriously people presented themselves, the more comical they appeared.
I think absurdity showed itself up in the early days of The Dead most. Bob Weir suggesting they record heavy air during the Anthem sessions.
It's never occurred to me before, but quite a few bands I have liked most over the years didn't always take themselves too seriously. Thinking of Hawkwind, Gong and The Cramps for example.
Seriously
Interesting comment, the bands you mentioned are all good and there's a creative thread that runs through them.
There's one thing I have learned in my 60 trips around the sun.. never take yourself too seriously. Sometimes the more I tried for something the further away it became. But enough about women.. back to music and telling the hippies to get off my grass.
Star Wars
Who knew back when we were in theaters watching the original Star Wars trilogy, that about 1/3 of the audience was secretly rooting for Palpatine and Vader. Either that, or WTF happened to those people in the succeeding years to warp their world view?
The Chicago apartment raid in the news is terrifying. Let's for argument's sake, concede that the government has the right to capture and deport people in the country illegally. As far as the constitution is concerned, that does not give the government the right to break into apartment complexes, full military-style like breaking down doors in Baghdad c. 2004, grabbing US citizens out of their apartments, trashing their property and detaining them for hours-- for the offense of happening to live in the same apartment building as some people in the country illegally. Every person who has been illegally detained should be suing the government for abuses.
Where are all the 2nd Amendment gun rights nuts, flying their Don't Tread On Me flags, worried about government overreach? This is it, right here, the perfect opportunity to protect the country from that evil government trying to take away rights?
Lastly, when will the media wake up? Alarm should be blaring from every non-propaganda news outlet.
Retribution?
The orange turd cannot have missed all the massive demonstrations against the Israeli genocide of the Palestinians. This will surely enrage him and he will almost certainly be thinking about ways that he can punish these countries for thinking differently from him. More tariffs? What else have you got, Donnie?
Don't Tread On Me
Good points. It's hard to remotely spin this to be legal, as for ethical.. I think they had people rappel from black hawk helicopters onto the apartment buildings in question. I think the argument is the building was full of Tren de Aragua gang members. I question full of vs. a more likely reality. We'll see. Still, no due process here. I have not seen the word search warrant mentioned and again they are separating children from parents while they figure things out when there is no clear violation of the law for many doors that were opened and residents removed. This is not who we are, this is different, and it cannot stand.
One turn of events, a Trump appointed judge blocked use of Oregon National Guard for protests. They tried to bring in the California National Guard, and an emergency stay was placed late last night to block that.
Two things seem obvious. 1) they are using the National Guard to block protests, not to reduce violent crime and 2) The aggressive tactics they are using will likely, eventually, lead to an eruption of violence. I believe this is the important part of their strategy as once violence erupts they will again likely use this to expand their footprint and up their game, i.e. violence begets more violence.
So be careful out there folks.. demonstrations are getting to them but do not let things erupt to violence. That would play right into their plans.
Yes.. Darth Vader, Storm Troopers, Emporer Palpatine (aka S. Miller).. lions and tigers and bears, oh my. I bet you could draw many parallels to J. R. R. Tolkien also. It certainly feels like the battle for middle earth has begun. Where is Gandolf, er um Bolo when you need him?
The Dead's Music and...
Weed, psychedelics, and The Deads Music and Songs was never absurd to me I always thought if there was a joke there it was on the "real world" hahaha... I was blind all the time I was learning too see! The Dead opened my eyes wide!
Fourwinds
I think we are probably saying the same thing, but from a different perspective ! If not it just goes to show how diverse we all are.

The Texas National Guard is on the ground in Chicago.
What could possibly go wrong?
It's obvious this is political theater engineered to provoke violence. It's also obvious that this is not legal and anti-democratic, hopefully the courts will strike this down.
This is only a pretext, a mere glimpse into what will likely occur during the next midterm elections unless it is stopped.
This is what authoritarian rule looks like. And it sucks. Be vocal, be safe, follow the law. Stop the steal.
