We still have each other, and for that I am truly grateful. As one of Deadnet's completely unofficial incurable optimists, it feels good to know I am in good company. Even if I still worry a lot these days.

I wish George Carlin was still around. I know most of us are familiar with that popular excerpt from Dumb Americans, 2006. Maybe I'll watch it again. He's no optimist, but he still makes me laugh...and really think.

George Carlins birthday is May 12th. I will be the guy protesting in a shirt that says "Never Underestimate the Power of Stupid People". I gained some weight after stress eating A LOT of chocolate recently. I'm also extra soft and squishy right now, and quite huggable I am told. Wavy Gravy is also a good hugger, I am told. Perhaps an army of clowns in front of the White House is what we really need today. His old Easter bunny suit would be the perfect holiday gift too.

Anyway, I heard an "ugly rumor" about tariffs on chocolate just before inauguration day. So I bought leftover christmas candy. Not some of it. All of it. And then I started binge watching light comedy and rediscovered my couch for a bit. And then the dispensary. Ugly rumors, yep. They can get ya sometimes.

But now that the candy is all gone, it's time to work off those extra pounds. We will cope together. And we will work together. But no more chocolate right now please.

I also remember being in a Trader Joes near Valley Forge, the day after the 2016 election. Another shopper looked really upset. I asked, "Are you ok?" She replied, "Can I have a hug?". So I gave this complete stranger a big ol hug. And I didnt even drop my chocolate chip dunkers. Remember, we've got each other's backs, this fight will continue, and we will prevail. It wont be easy. And then, maybe, the "New Reconstruction" can begin. Ah, Reconstruction. My favorite unreleased JGB flavor. Maybe later. We have so much work to do.

Love that positive attitude in this time of orange darkness and destruction of democracy, hope our country makes it through and comes back to caring about community values rather than greed. I don't own a generator so when the power goes out here, I don't open my fridge. But since thats usually winter, no problem with cold beverages. I do fire up battery powered items and sources and play acoustic guitar. Thats also when it's good to have wood heat option. I try to get to as much live music as I can, a common view with folks I meet at concerts is that during these times, music and community are among the best antidotes and solutions to continue progress towards a more perfect union.

    Hey Deadheads,

In these times of global uncertainty, I've been reflecting on the importance of community and the simple joys that keep us grounded. The Grateful Dead's music has always been a source of comfort and connection for me, reminding me of the enduring power of shared experiences.

Recently, I found myself reminiscing about a particular moment during a power outage. With the lights out and the world seemingly paused, I opened my fridge to grab a cold drink. The sudden burst of light and cool air felt like a small miracle, a reminder of the comforts we often take for granted. It made me think of how, even in the darkest times, there are moments of brightness and relief.

This experience paralleled the solace I find in the Dead's music. Just as the fridge's light pierced the darkness, songs like "Ripple" and "Box of Rain" have illuminated my path during challenging times. They serve as reminders that, amidst chaos, there is beauty and hope.

I'm curious to hear from others: What are the small moments or memories that have brought you comfort recently? How has the Grateful Dead's music played a role in those experiences?

Stay safe and keep the spirit alive.

All the world leaders that are admired by he who shall not be named are dictators and strong men. If they tolerate elections then they manipulate them to ensure they remain in power. Democracy is considered to be a threat.

Until the American left wing gets a media company that can rival FOX Entertainment, Newsmax and all the right wing media (including podcasts, radio, etc...), this country is in trouble. The left simply doesn't have a propaganda arm to counter the right wing narratives. Part of it is the idea that the left wants the truth, not propaganda and negative opinions 24/7. Some on the right will disagree, but, frankly, they are wrong. Does mainstream media make mistakes-- yes and they usually own up to it. FOX lies, spouts propaganda, shows only the negative of a Democratic administration and the positives of Trump.

Take the tragedy that happened in DC last night with the helicoptor/plane crash. An awful tragedy. If this happened under the Obama or Biden administrations, FOX and all right wing media would pick up the talking point that this happened because the military is too 'woke,' hiring DEI leaders and letting trans and too many women, black and brown people into the military, sacrificing quality. The mainstream media would then report on these disgusting reports, which then gets these noxious ideas into the mainstream media and more and more people believe this garbage.

How many American soldiers died in the Afghanistan withdrawal that people cannot forgive Joe Biden for? Was it 13? More Americans died last night in that plane crash on Trump's watch. You won't hear the media saying that it happened because the new SecDef is a drunk who spent his first days on the job working on dismantling diversity efforts and retaliating against General Milley. FOX would be casting blame toward a Democratic administration though.

All that said, this is sadly what Americans voted for in November. Chaos and lies, despite knowing what we know about that monster.

Edit: I will add that I do not believe the accident happened because of the new SecDef, but pointing out how right wing media would be discussing such an accident under a Democratic administration. Tragedy all around...

Your post rings a thousand percent true.
It's tragic all around.
One can only imagine the reverse and how it would be represented.
Look no further than the CA wildfires, I mean, blame California government, right?
Clearly, all their fault for being....attuned to the earth's limitations and simply trying to hold those awful realities at bay or perhaps even mitigate.

The very fabric of our society as we know it is being peeled away, layer by layer.
I work in Clinical Research and this entire business of shunning science and the NIH and WHO is just absolutely Ludacris. How the hell do people think innovation and cures for diseases are actually derived?
Trial and error, it's called Science.
We don't always know the truth and facts of what we're doing at the outset, but the very definition of science is along the lines of "the pursuit of knowledge". It is an iterative process until something sticks, then you work at that to make it work even better. Fully aware that there will be wrong turns and unknowns, but the key is that those things should never be harbingers for "look, they have no idea what they are talking about." Those sort of stances put on full-display the lack of understanding of what science is, and the true intent. The fact that this administration is for some reason against that pursuit is one of the most baffling and, quite frankly, destructive positions of All.
But on some sinister level it all makes sense: debunk science to keep people in fear and keep them stupid, so they have nothing else to fall back on other than whatever their dear leader spews in their direction for them to lap right up.

Despite all of this BS, I still do feel that rational thought and science will win the day, its just gonna be bumpy as all hell.

Be Well People!

Trump is on TV live, already blaming DEI. Talk about deplorable.

Looking at Washington Post coverage of Trump's comments blaming DEI (and Obama, Biden and Buttigieg) and they use the standard "Trumps says so and so without evidence." How about this instead: "Trump grotesquely blames DEI and previous administrations for accident that happened on his watch."

Trump and his lackies are awful, but the media has truly failed the nation for the past decade by normalizing Trump and his un-American views. It actually goes back to the Tea Party crazies of the early Obama years who claimed it was all about economic issues, when in reality it was people losing their minds because a Black man was president. The media has kowtowed to the right with wishy-washy descriptions of their awful behavior and opinions, all so they don't get accused of having a left wing bias.

Sixtus, true stuff re: science and what these people are doing to it. Response to California wildfires is an apt comparison.

....fired the FAA director his FIRST DAY. Then placed a hiring freeze on air traffic controllers the next day. Then disbanded the Aviation Safety Advisory Committee the next day, then offered a buyout demand to existing employees the 28th. The next day, the US has its first mid-air collision in 16 years. But, as is expected, the orange finger points the blame to anyone else.

in the past I have criticized the lying, felon rapist that the sick uninformed voted back into power, who during the campaign told everyone what he and his sick party were going to do. Now that it is happening, it is time to revolt, yes, revolt, fight, fight, fight to remove the traitor and his traitor picks for the traitor cabinet. In every way these disgusting sorry ass excuses for Americans are destroying the country and the world. we patriots must stop these traitors in every and any way we can.
I have all ready called my senators and told them to vote against his uninformed picks for his cabinet. Vought is the last that needs to be stopped. He has all ready started his inhuman rhetoric to cut Medicaid and he will not stop there. Next will be Social Security and you had better believe it. My 98 year old mother in law is on Medicaid and if she gets cut it will be murder as she cannot live without this aid but these traitors want to cut these programs
it is only the beginning.
just one more thing, where are the trump suckies who follow it on this chat board? why haven't they tried to defend him? stupid, traitors know they are wrong, but they are cowards, who still think the felon will make America great, but what they must realize is that they are wrong but will never admit it. This country will never be the same. Amerika and democracy will be destroyed from within as the sick scum continue to waye their russian flag, there confederate battle flag and spread their hate for liberty and freedom. who knew there was that many blind ignorant stupid traitors in this country. We lovers of freedom must fight.

Right on PT. I suspect the Dems have been holding their fire, the guy did win the election (WTF were people thinking). Protests will be coming soon.

Also, I should have known that a Democrat didn't actually need to be in office to get the blame. The party of 'personal responsibility' is the very best at passing along blame. I am sure all the firings of leaders at FAA, emails suggesting ATC employees should quit or lose their job, among other issues begun by that monster, had no impact on work morale and competence in leadership. But, yeah, it's the Democrats fault.

....that would be my slogan if I ever ran for political office.
Then again, Harris ran on Joy. Seems a third of this country doesn't believe in either of those. They instead run on revenge for what was taken away from them from 2020 to 2024. Which is interesting, because when I hear that from my MAGA coworkers and I ask them exactly what was taken away, instant subject change. Shocking, I know.
PF. The Bushes and Reagan were Republicans. That party is gone. It's MAGA now. New rules.

It is a cult no question about it. My mother and two sisters have changed in ways I just don’t even know who they are anymore. My mother use to be so decent caring and warm, now she is just angry 24/7. All three voted for him now three times. In 2019 my mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and is now in remission, you would think she would have a very clear view of what is right and wrong. Instead I have to listen to for example Taylor swift is scum Travis kelce is scum virtually anyone she believes is not on the trump train is scum. I can’t describe how much this has upset my world at a time I should have grown closer to my mom. I worked at a radio station here in NYC that this subhuman loved to frequent I always found him gross and disgusting, I could never have imagined how much this lame dick president would have affected my family life. Nothing changes them or extracts them from David Koresh oops sorry Donald tramp. Not sure I even have hope anymore for a return of my family.

the ray-gun years followed by bush 1 was the start of this downfall, trickledown? don't piss down my back and tell me t's raining, I sure didn't get anything from no trickledown. it took Clinton 8 years to fix the chaos that those 3 (this includes Nancy, who was actually running the country when ray-gun was supposed to be president, even tho he could not make a decision without "conferring" with nancy, who told ronnie what to do, and that first bush was the cia director, what did we expect from him? then we get to bush the second, who stold that election by getting his stupid brother to hand him the win by declaring that a "hanging chad" was not a vote. These traitors have been setting this up since the 80's. Fight these traitors every step, do not get involved with any of their stupid ideas, do not play their games. I for one will not participate in anything they come up with, I will not buy anything that they put tariffs on, I will not participate in their traitor government.

If KC wins? WHa Da Fug?
I’ve just lost all respect for you!
JK, but personally I’m hoping the Birds get it done and don’t leave me on Desolation Row like last time 🤞
Go Birds!

Sorry, but I knew as soon as the league made sure the Chefs would make it (they certainly couldn’t have this year without the refs) we were gonna hear non stop threepeat, threepeat, threepeat, and I’ll bet they’ll try to phuch the Birds too 🤮
