We still have each other, and for that I am truly grateful. As one of Deadnet's completely unofficial incurable optimists, it feels good to know I am in good company. Even if I still worry a lot these days.

I wish George Carlin was still around. I know most of us are familiar with that popular excerpt from Dumb Americans, 2006. Maybe I'll watch it again. He's no optimist, but he still makes me laugh...and really think.

George Carlins birthday is May 12th. I will be the guy protesting in a shirt that says "Never Underestimate the Power of Stupid People". I gained some weight after stress eating A LOT of chocolate recently. I'm also extra soft and squishy right now, and quite huggable I am told. Wavy Gravy is also a good hugger, I am told. Perhaps an army of clowns in front of the White House is what we really need today. His old Easter bunny suit would be the perfect holiday gift too.

Anyway, I heard an "ugly rumor" about tariffs on chocolate just before inauguration day. So I bought leftover christmas candy. Not some of it. All of it. And then I started binge watching light comedy and rediscovered my couch for a bit. And then the dispensary. Ugly rumors, yep. They can get ya sometimes.

But now that the candy is all gone, it's time to work off those extra pounds. We will cope together. And we will work together. But no more chocolate right now please.

I also remember being in a Trader Joes near Valley Forge, the day after the 2016 election. Another shopper looked really upset. I asked, "Are you ok?" She replied, "Can I have a hug?". So I gave this complete stranger a big ol hug. And I didnt even drop my chocolate chip dunkers. Remember, we've got each other's backs, this fight will continue, and we will prevail. It wont be easy. And then, maybe, the "New Reconstruction" can begin. Ah, Reconstruction. My favorite unreleased JGB flavor. Maybe later. We have so much work to do.

I don't own a generator so when the power goes out here, I don't open my fridge. But since thats usually winter, no problem with cold beverages. I do fire up battery powered items and sources and play acoustic guitar. Thats also when it's good to have wood heat option. I try to get to as much live music as I can, a common view with folks I meet at concerts is that during these times, music and community are among the best antidotes and solutions to continue progress towards a more perfect union.

    Hey Deadheads,

In these times of global uncertainty, I've been reflecting on the importance of community and the simple joys that keep us grounded. The Grateful Dead's music has always been a source of comfort and connection for me, reminding me of the enduring power of shared experiences.

Recently, I found myself reminiscing about a particular moment during a power outage. With the lights out and the world seemingly paused, I opened my fridge to grab a cold drink. The sudden burst of light and cool air felt like a small miracle, a reminder of the comforts we often take for granted. It made me think of how, even in the darkest times, there are moments of brightness and relief.

This experience paralleled the solace I find in the Dead's music. Just as the fridge's light pierced the darkness, songs like "Ripple" and "Box of Rain" have illuminated my path during challenging times. They serve as reminders that, amidst chaos, there is beauty and hope.

I'm curious to hear from others: What are the small moments or memories that have brought you comfort recently? How has the Grateful Dead's music played a role in those experiences?

Stay safe and keep the spirit alive.

It sounds as though it depends on whether Trump likes Keir Starmer or not, as to whether he inflicts tariffs on the UK. Weird way of conducting foreign policy, basing the decisions you make on whether you like a countries prime minister or not. I suppose Starmer had better find out which chocolates Trump likes before the next meeting - soften the old boy up a bit. Mustn't appear nasty, either - what a job.

Of course, more sick folks with no more Medicare or H.I, and after they tank the dollar, will equal more legalized stealing of well, everything!

But hey, “my groceries and gas for my gigantic gas cow that I only need to carry a tool belt is too expensive” yeah, just wait..

Because of all the other awful things happening, one item that is getting ignored is Rubio is down in El Salvador and the dictator there offered use of his prisons for not just criminal migrants (by that I mean migrants who commit murder or something when in the USA), but for American citizens. And Rubio said what an amazing offer that was and we haven't ever had such a kind offer.... They are actually talking about sending American prisoners to El Salvador's supermax prison!!

I will never, ever forgive the voters who voted for that monster and the media who propped him up for the past 10 years. And the Republican senators... don't get me started. Have some pride, for God's sake. You keep letting these terrible, unqualified people into positions of power. Just so you don't get primaried. Can the Maine Democrats finally nominate someone who can beat pearl-clutching Susan Collins. I am 100% certain that a good percentage of these Republican politicians hate Trump privately and what he is doing, but go along so they can get elected.

The shit is going to hit the fan soon, when Musk starts to stop payments, unemployment skyrockets from laying off federal workers, prices go up from the tariffs, and crime goes up due to many conditions, including the firing of thousands of FBI agents (whoever thought Deadheads would be pulling for FBI agents).

Any protests that occur, people better look out for agitators planted by MAGA so martial law can be declared. This country is going to Hell in a Bucket and fast....

...now appears to be the top of the bill.
What the Flying F??
Seriously all of this talk about invading/taking over other countries (I'm now counting 3: Panama, Greenland, and GAZA?!?!?!) is absolutely terrifying.

We have ZERO business in any of these places beyond whatever we've always been doing;
the cheering for the USA to start steamrolling over other sovereign entities is unequivocally sickening.
As a USA citizen, I want NO PART in these aggressions or stances, let alone the USA actually acting on any of this bullshit.

This posturing makes our country no better than Russia or Nazi Germany who just go and take whatever they want because they think they can.

Full Stop.
This needs to be addressed in a deadly serious way or we're gonna be pulled into catastrophes beyond prediction.

I say Be Well People,
But I know it's hard.

While I could foresee all the other awful policy garbage before the election, though allowing Musk and his young entourage full access to the government's computer systems and private information was not on my radar, the imperialistic fantasies I could not predict.

All are absolutely delusional and will make the USA a pariah nation across the globe. Ok, the Gaza comments from yesterday were predictable as he has mentioned how it is prime real estate in the past. But the stark terms in which he put it is insane.

One thing to think about in all of this is that he is setting these imperialistic goals while at the same time pulling all international funding. Again, the nation will be a pariah and we will be isolated, with poorer nations looking to China. Our economy is going to take a hit pretty soon as I can see Canada, Mexico and Europe boycotting American products.

I believe there are protests planned across the country tomorrow, but mainstream media is failing again. I have yet to see one article about it, just articles about how nobody is doing anything about the tyranny, while it is really just the limp weakling Republican politicians doing nothing while Democrats try to save the nation.

If the turd does indeed take over Gaza and turn it into a riviera-style resort, or he invades Panama or Greenland, what will the rest of the world do? They will tell him he is breaking international law, that he must stop immediately and probably lots of other platitudes but I very much doubt that any meaningful action would be taken. Saying he's a naughty boy is hardly likely to cause him to back off. Pathetic.

... connective human feelings of any sort - see the definition of Narcissistic Sociopath - you think you can impose this stuff on people with impunity. So all of the various malignant acts you see are flowing outward from there.

I second Sixtus' vibe: NOT in my NAME !

Whether it's here at home, or abroad, all this stuff abrogates every decent value and (and in many cases, already) law that this country has ever had, or has professed to have had.

People put him back in
They WANT this country to become a dystopian enclave. (Actually, we are already there.)

Those who voted for DT: Fuck you and damn you.
Those who didn't bother to vote: Fuck you, damn you, and go to hell.

This is obviously where we would wind up if DT got back into the WH. People either wanted the USA to descend into utter madness or were so FUCKING STUPID that they couldn't see it.

Heaven help us all (although, the election and a lot of personal reflection has put my faith on long-term hiatus.)

there is no bottom with the potential destructive behavior of this tragically flawed individual.

Speaking as a therapist (who worked 44 years in the field), the Tangerine Mussolini exhibits all the symptoms of Narcissistic Personality Disorder, and to hope for any mitigating humane decisions or reasoned actions by this individual is folly. His status as a convicted felon reflects a lifetime of such maladaptive behavior.

There is no cure for a personality disorder, only with consistent and disciplined management by a highly motivated individual can decrease their destructive and malignant actions. The Narcissistic Personality Disordered individual exhibits a persistent pattern of grandiose sense of self-importance, excessive need for admiration, view themselves as brilliant and displayed entitlement in all facets of life. These individuals continually prey upon all family, friends, and any society members unfortunate enough to be in their orbit.

These individuals do not think, react, or have the full range of emotional responses as us 'normals' (such as experiencing empathy, recognize cause and effect, impulse control, etc.). They simply do not possess that 'chip' and in fact, many times the personality disordered client complained to me "why should I care about anyone else? Then I would have to feel bad about myself. And that would get in the way of me getting what I want." Tragic at all levels.

As Betty Davis said "fasten your seatbelts, we are in for a bumpy ride."

"Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself."

I see that Google have acquiesced to the turd's executive order. They have added the name "Gulf of America" to the Gulf of Mexico on Google Maps.

In various parts of the planet there is a Black Sea, a White Sea, a Red Sea and Yellow Sea. Maybe he should have renamed the Gulf of Mexico the Orange Sea. Missed chance.

And they banned an AP reporter from the White House because the AP won't call the Gulf of Mexico what they want us to call it.

I laid awake in bed for awhile in the middle of the night last night pondering the sad fact that a lot of Americans like what Musk and Trump are doing. By the end of the year, the tariff situation on top of higher unemployment due to the firing of federal employees and fewer contractors getting $ from the federal government, will drop the USA into a recession. That should hopefully wake up some folks.

Democrats need to wake up and figure out how the GOP messages so effectively and go out and get the message out that government is not necessarily the bad guy. Go on FOX entertainment and give them facts-- Trump flat out lies about FEMA's response to the NC floods. Get out there with the facts and a megahorn and start changing some minds.

And we all are in the slippery slope careening toward the takeover of America by the Radical Capitalist Extremists, ultra-right billionaires, and Christian Nationalists as their Orange Mussolini implements the Heritage Foundation's long planed defunding of government services, conversion to abject cronyism, and initiate a constitutional crisis.

And yes, Proudfoot, 90% of the farmers (in Nebraska) voted orange, and they will be "rewarded" for their loyalty by deletion of farm subsides. Famous capitalist Howard Hughes was asked 'how much more money do you need to be happy?' and he replied "the next dollar." The Orange Mussolini is only the face of a much deeper and insidious group (see above) operating with impunity to gain more control and wealth by increasing repression.

.... but look everyday.

What I hate is the constant harping by Dems and talking heads is the talk about "the message". How they need a new message to get thru.

A new message will not work on stupid. Stupid never admits it wrong or has shame. Then I hear everyone that voted for him isn't stupid. They ALL don't have to be. Only a small percent has to be. Are you telling me 20% of America (or the world) is not stupid?

Stupid needs to touch the paint, even though the signs clearly says "WET PAINT". Stupid needs to touch something out of the stove to check if it's hot, though it's been in the oven for 2 hours! Stupid can't name 3 branches of government, but tell you the score from the world series in 62 and who the last at bat was.

Until the shit hits depression era levels nothing will change AND when it hits that level you will not find a orange asshole supporter. They will all be "I didn't vote for him".

The saddest part is, in America we have the ability to fix with the next election, we have the power to stop now. But that will take crooked republicans voting against this shit and not approving all his nominations.

Also on the messaging front/policy front. Over 50% of voters are women and yet we can't protect abortion rights. Where are the women, this is a woman's issue and men should shut the fuck up. On the flip side if they were coming down the street "forcing" people to have abortions, I'd be against that.

It's going to be a rough ride indeed.

Hope I live long enough to see asshole orange die a miserable death.

I'm sorry was that too mean!

you are right on the money
