Good to see that many people are following their respective government's travel advisory warnings and not visiting America. Why would you risk visiting a rogue state where you could be locked up for no good reason? Unfortunate that the consequences of the orange turd's policies are hurting the hospitality sector, but it is what it is and it will only get worse.

That amazing collectable Trump guitar, that goes with your Lee Greenwood (country music star - God Bless the USA as his claim to fame, at least for this discussion) and Donald Trump bible, we are sorry to say has been discovered to have been made in China. We are so sorry for this misunderstanding but no refunds or returns are possible as this in no way affects the collectable value of this treasured memento. Guess they didn't see the Made in China sticker on the sample product. Tariff on that, right?

Edit: Props to Sen. Cory Booker! Marathon man.

what is WRONG with these people?

DT is a bitter, cruel, horrible, hypocritical, petty, vicious, vulgar, disgusting, destructive, racist, ignorant piece of garbage.

And everyone who supports him is the same.

How can anyone with a shred of human decency support him?

Are there really that many anti-human, horrible people out there?

Apparently so.

higher unemployment
diminished health services
diminished consumer protection
higher costs/prices on numerous products
global trade war
insanely high tariffs
decreased tourism
attacks on science
threats to Social Security
etc.

everything points to lower quality of life and poorer health and a weakened economy and more social division

I agree with our man vguy: the most discouraging thing about all of this may be the apparent truth that so many of our friends and neighbors, previously believed to be sane and decent humans, agree with what's going on.

Well, let's see how long that lasts now that inflation has just been kicked into warp drive.

We've got men in unmarked vans pulling people off the streets, taking them into custody and sending them god knows where. By their own admission, this includes legal residents who have not been accused of any crime.

We've got the Justice Department suing journalists over articles that did not flatter Der Trumpenfuhrer, shutting down dissent and threatening judges. We've an unelected billionaire with no experience in government and no security clearance, running a nongovernment agency with no legal authorization that's gutting benefits to our veterans, indiscriminately firing federal workers (ie, average people like you and me who are just trying to earn a paycheck who've done nothing wrong) by the thousands, and basically telling social security recipients, people who like clean air and unpolluted water, people who visit national parks, to go piss up a rope. And that's just for starters.

How anyone can support all this and still consider themselves a good person is beyond me. But mark my words: a lot of that support will have disappeared in six weeks, when inflation is up in the double digits.

But who's left with any power to do anything about it? First they came for the immigrants, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't an immigrant. Then they came for the protestors, and the judges, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't one of them. Then they came for the journalists, and we don't know what happened after that.

I'm rooting for California to secede. The US of A is beyond repair.

But it's worse than that - far worse, in my opinion.

Their intent is akin to the Carl Icahn et al. corporate raider MO in the 80's: Get your hooks in the asset, disrupt the workforce and downsize/choke off $$ outflow, gut what is left by spinning off the saleable 'parts' (in this case, privatize meaningful agencies). Pocket as much of the gains as possible, and defray any losses off onto 'the public'.

AND... the 'kicker' is that this horrific, systematized State Capture rubric will "naturally" leave us in a Post-Constitutional 'order' with a dictator/junta that will (of course) be "needed" to "manage" the drastic, emergency conditions they, themselves have occasioned upon us ...

All those demonstrations, across the country, some have been slow to wake up to find out but its so freakin' blatant now, too much power given one deviant idiot, opening doors for others... as Ted Cruz now complains about tariffs, they, all the the scumbag sycophants in congress, see the handwriting on the wall, now looking for their vestigial tails... at least we will be able to order Dire Wolf puppies soon.

Blueprint for decimating Medicare (+ Food Stamps, etc.) is on the table - for tax giveaways to the wealthiest.

One can only hope that the final version of the bill finds so much pressure against it that it comes up short ... like happened with the ACA 7-8 years ago.

Every time I turn my tv on, I'm confronted with an orange turd waving his tiny hands around. Sometimes he opens his mouth and an endless stream of bullshit pours out, sometimes he's sitting behind a desk signing endless black folders like he's a famous author at a book signing engagement in a bookshop somewhere. Some lackey keeps handing him the folders and has to explain to the turd what it is he's signing. I just wish he would disappear from my tv screen and, ideally, from the planet.
If its annoying me, I can't imagine how much worse it must be for you guys in America.

The Turd's Sec. of Education, to use (f)elon's phrase, is dumber than a bag of bricks. She said all our schools should have A.1. (eh-one) because our children deserve the best. The best? Like someone who knows the difference between artificial intelligence and a brand of steak sauce? That might be good. What were her qualifications? Oh yeah, she ran a wrestling outfit.

Hey Deadheads,

In these times of global uncertainty, I've been reflecting on the importance of community and the simple joys that keep us grounded. The Grateful Dead's music has always been a source of comfort and connection for me, reminding me of the enduring power of shared experiences.

Recently, I found myself reminiscing about a particular moment during a power outage. With the lights out and the world seemingly paused, I opened my fridge to grab a cold drink. The sudden burst of light and cool air felt like a small miracle, a reminder of the comforts we often take for granted. It made me think of how, even in the darkest times, there are moments of brightness and relief.

This experience paralleled the solace I find in the Dead's music. Just as the fridge's light pierced the darkness, songs like "Ripple" and "Box of Rain" have illuminated my path during challenging times. They serve as reminders that, amidst chaos, there is beauty and hope.

I'm curious to hear from others: What are the small moments or memories that have brought you comfort recently? How has the Grateful Dead's music played a role in those experiences?

Stay safe and keep the spirit alive.

Love that positive attitude in this time of orange darkness and destruction of democracy, hope our country makes it through and comes back to caring about community values rather than greed. I don't own a generator so when the power goes out here, I don't open my fridge. But since thats usually winter, no problem with cold beverages. I do fire up battery powered items and sources and play acoustic guitar. Thats also when it's good to have wood heat option. I try to get to as much live music as I can, a common view with folks I meet at concerts is that during these times, music and community are among the best antidotes and solutions to continue progress towards a more perfect union.

We still have each other, and for that I am truly grateful. As one of Deadnet's completely unofficial incurable optimists, it feels good to know I am in good company. Even if I still worry a lot these days.

I wish George Carlin was still around. I know most of us are familiar with that popular excerpt from Dumb Americans, 2006. Maybe I'll watch it again. He's no optimist, but he still makes me laugh...and really think.

George Carlins birthday is May 12th. I will be the guy protesting in a shirt that says "Never Underestimate the Power of Stupid People". I gained some weight after stress eating A LOT of chocolate recently. I'm also extra soft and squishy right now, and quite huggable I am told. Wavy Gravy is also a good hugger, I am told. Perhaps an army of clowns in front of the White House is what we really need today. His old Easter bunny suit would be the perfect holiday gift too.

Anyway, I heard an "ugly rumor" about tariffs on chocolate just before inauguration day. So I bought leftover christmas candy. Not some of it. All of it. And then I started binge watching light comedy and rediscovered my couch for a bit. And then the dispensary. Ugly rumors, yep. They can get ya sometimes.

But now that the candy is all gone, it's time to work off those extra pounds. We will cope together. And we will work together. But no more chocolate right now please.

I also remember being in a Trader Joes near Valley Forge, the day after the 2016 election. Another shopper looked really upset. I asked, "Are you ok?" She replied, "Can I have a hug?". So I gave this complete stranger a big ol hug. And I didnt even drop my chocolate chip dunkers. Remember, we've got each other's backs, this fight will continue, and we will prevail. It wont be easy. And then, maybe, the "New Reconstruction" can begin. Ah, Reconstruction. My favorite unreleased JGB flavor. Maybe later. We have so much work to do.

the people running/ruining the country cannot be any more incompetent and ignorant and dumb and FUCKING STUPID.

That schmuck they put in as HHS secretary...oh my FUCKING GOD. How STUPID and out of touch can people be?

Just unbelievable that we are living in this situation.

Vomitorium maximus.

and they would vote for a third term!!!

Stupid NEVER admits it's wrong!!!

Forgot his wife's birthday again, lol. Says he's too busy with tariff negotiations, which he has said he does not do but leaves to underlings. Tells us he will "buy her dinner on the plane". Pretty sure that's included on the flight and he hasn't paid for a dinner in his life! Lying sack of...
And he walked on the Pope's rug (sacred space) while viewing, a faux pas they told him not to do, while being the only one there in a blue suit. Moron! Surely a clown in the buryin' ground.

Egomaniacal Sociopath... Schadenfreude... See recent interview by Katie Phang with Mary Trump. Amnesty from the 14th, section 3, presidential immunity such a great idea for a criminal, guess who knew he could drive a truck through a congress with no backbone. It's a fine pickle but it cannot last, it will collapse under its own weight of incompetence and lawlessness. But not before our country suffers greatly. We the people have much work to do, keep after your representatives and vote.

The orange turd has signed one of his beloved executive orders, this time calling for all federal funding to the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and Nationsl Public Radio (NPR) to be blocked. He claims that neither entity presents a fair, accurate or unbiased portrayal of current events to taxpaying citizens. Vindictive twat.

....when asked if he would follow The Constitution, the POTUS answered by saying, "I don't know. I have really good lawyers."
Now, I may be dumb, but I'm not stupid. But that would be cause enough for IMMEDIATE impeachment in normal times.
This becoming evident daily, that these are NOT normal times.

Worrying that the far right Reform Party have done so well in local elections here in Britain. Easy answers and targets for blame seem to be the order of the day. Think only of yourself instead of for yourself.

Hey, if somebody asks you a question you don't want to answer, just say "I don't know"! So brilliant!

Mom: Johnny, who ate all the cookies in the cookie jar?

Johnny: I don't know.

We've come a long ways from "the buck stops here." We've got masked men in white vans grabbing people off the street and disappearing them to El Salvador with no warrants, no hearings, no charges being filed, none of the due process that the Constitution requires. And Trump just says "I don't know" as if he has nothing to do with it.

If you elect somebody who feels like he can just lie his way out of anything, you're in trouble. We Americans used to like and respect honesty. We made up fables about how honest George Washington and Abe Lincoln were. But honesty doesn't count for much these days, evidently.

Mom: George, who cut down that cherry tree?
George: I don't know. I'm not a lawyer.

My brothers.

And while I get a chuckle out of your clever and astute analysis, this is all so terribly tragic.

If the measure of each of us is evident in how we treat others, the orange Mussolini's actions are an abomination. He is a flaming butt-plug of the highest order.

"You see the hut, yet you ask where shall we go for shelter."

They are really focusing on the elections, both midterms later this year which will flow into the presidential election in 2028.

By focusing, it's clear they are doing everything they can to take enough control of the process in specific states (swing states of course) to tamper with the results. He has continued to sew doubt in the competency and accuracy in the hopes that he can take them over.

Let's be clear eyed about this, there is no proof and they have offered no additional information or proof that elections were systematically tampered with by anyone, but specifically democrats.

Thus, there is no justification to change the voting systems in place and give him control of any part of this process. Fight against this, do not be silent.

Do not let them touch the election infrastructure. He is not going to give up on this and he does not care if he has to cheat. Speak up, speak often, vote.

Homeland Security is targeting Americans with "Administrative Subpoenas." This special type of Subpoena does not require the signature of a judge. These subpoenas are being used broadly against groups like Instagram Users to retirees to university employees to hospital employees. Recently, subpoenas of this type went to Minnesota Health System demanding detailed personal information about some 7,000 workers that protested Immigration and Customs Enforcement's intrusion into one of its hospitals.

So they are gathering data to do God only knows what targeting US citizens who are legally protesting their actions. This is chilling. This is authoritarianism. This is fascism. This is right out of George Orwell's mind when he wrote 1984. This is wrong and it must be stopped.
