Late '81 (Market Sq. 12/6, or similar). But that's not what I want > which is anything '68 or '70 > But that's not presently what I think we'll be getting - which has changed to:

.

Early '79 - either 1/10 Nassau, or as mentioned in the DaPs 55 thread 1/15 Springfield (of which I used to have a good copy > Thundering Shakedown!)

Although 1981 got quite a boost in the latest box set, I’m thinking (hoping) an 81 show maybe. Haven’t had an 81 DP since #20. Despite the oft reported tape issues, maybe we finally get a Europe 81 show, unless they’re saving for future box set. HEY…A HEAD CAN HOPE!

... we possibly could get the filler for the rest of 9/15/82?
If not that, then maybe a double Dave's of them 1982 Frost shows in autumn 1982?
I will say it's always a good time for a grease release, possibly autumn 1970?
I feel a 1974 is on the horizon, not for the upcoming Dave's #56, but maybe for next year.....
...Stay Tuned!

5-11-79 Billerica, MA

Now the Chelmsford Forum. Last of the front of board Healy shows. I have a so so tape, it's a good show in a small hockey arena.
Company I work for is hq in Billerica. Had a couple step brothers that lived there in the 80s when we were teens. Off the beaten heady highway, that's for certain.

Yesterday I was hopeful that there’d be an announcement/Dave Chat on the you toob page.

And Rhino fulfillment sucks!

1982 is due. Zero Dave's to date. Would love more 81 or 79, but, yes, three releases in the ETR box, so not likely.

Long shot, 1988

45 years ago I was up at the Warfield Theatre for a far out Friday night with the Good old Grateful Dead. Very cool shows. To bad a box set didn't come out of these shows.

Thanks for looking after us, Marye!
.
I'll preface my remarks by saying I am *always* wrong about what Dave is going to release next.
.
First, the facts. This year we've seen two 70s shows along with the first Dave's release from the post-Brent era. The last Brent release closed last year's DaP run (vol 52 - 1983) and the last Pig release preceded that one (vol 51 - 1971). The ETR box set had 3 shows that feature Pig but many more that feature Brent.
.
So on balance, it seems like it's time for Pigpen to step forward again. 1968 shows are likely too short to fill up three discs, and ofc that material is thin on the ground. If Dave had wanted to release 1969 he could have saved the 4/5 Avalon show instead of releasing a casette. Either way, if he's turned his glittering eye towards 68-69 I think he'll be saving that to lure in subscribers for next year. So that leaves the biggest remaining target-rich Pigpen environment as 1970-1971. Now, other than the 10/24/70 Kiel material - released as two separate instances of filler - we haven't had 1970 release since Vol 30. So that's what I hope we're going to get: 1970. It's a GREAT year. I know the second half of that year is largely not in the vault, but there should still be a lot of release-able material.
.
With all that said: what I *actually* think we are going to get is 1988. Deadvikes is right that 1982 is absent from the Dave's series, but so is 1988 and 1989 (well, and also '86 but there's no one clamoring for '86 while '89 is VERY well-represented outside of the Dave's series). And there were two '89 shows + a disc of '82 filler in the ETR box. Dave has a history of ending the year with a Brent release (q.v. vols 8, 20, 36, 40, 44, and 52) and he was seeing shows in '88. So I think he's going to pick an '88 gig to release as Vol 56.

And BTKddd posted about 10-9,10,82 Frost on another board.
So there you have it, DaP 56 will be a 4-CD Frost release.

Interesting how we all have logical explanations for why our personal preferences will be next! I can play that game.

As an earlier wise man posted, in so many words, you can count on any of my "predictions" being wrong. So it's down to throwing spaghetti at the fridge door:

Next year's box: Fall '72.

Last pick of this year, early 80s, like a hot '81. The '90 release was a bit sketchy IMHO and more a chance for Dave to release one of his cherished I-was-there shows. (The second such release, if memory serves, which is frequently not the case these days.)

First pick of 2026 -- the subscriber lure -- three separate '68 shows from June-August. "They" held back '68 from the ETR box, "they" have a number of '68 shows and it would be a unique twist on the DP series.

Of course, by imagining the above, I have doomed my preferences as predictions.

And I'm okay with that, HF

Well, if it be '81, then it'll be 12-26-81, which has a screamin' first set and plenty of jammy-ness in the second.

I've had a great 1st gen aud of this since shortly after the show. A late, good friend was heavily into taping with his Nakamichi in that period.

I've flogged this show here for years and marye acknowledged that she caught the show in person and, so far, is the only person to back me up. But you know, marye's endorsement is worth ten Oros!!!!!

Yeeehhhhiiiii!!!!

Did a basic google search for dave's picks 56. AI found this

Dave's Picks 56 is a forthcoming live Grateful Dead release featuring a complete show from the band's 1988-03-31 performance at the Brendan Byrne Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The release is scheduled to be available for pre-order on October 31, 2025.

Not sure about this, some of 3/31/88 is on RT 4.2.

Is this what to expect from the great and powerful AI? :-)

Dave's Picks Volume 56 is a live Grateful Dead recording of their July 31, 1988, concert at the Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California. The album is part of the limited-edition series curated by the band's archivist, Dave Lemieux…..

Both 88 shows were guesses from a Reddit thread about a week old. This is what’s coming for all our jobs?

7/29/88 has such a great unique 2nd set. Would hope that would be the one, but anything from that summer would be great.

I forgot about that year being light on releases, with only a Road Trips and a Download Series being official. That sounds like a good bet, sleeper pick style.
I still feel we're due for an '82 or 1981, and a grease release, maybe something from 1970.

I like the speculation of some '68 shows for next year's subscription lure. Add a 1974 summer show or one from either the autumn Euro tour or the October Winterland run from that year and you've got a nice start to 2026!

But it sure as hell isn't what's passing for AI on the 'net. I've posed questions and the "AI" clearly has no idea what I'm asking. OR it provides an answer in which the second part totally contradicts the first part.

If it be '88 I'll go with the flow, but still Jonesing for the Grease.

HF

That's my hope for Dave's 56. 1968, as a taster for next years 60's box set. I live in a fantasy world - I admit it.

there's always going to be more dumb people than smart people;

Hey rockers!!

No 1970s in the big box either. So 56 will be Alfred College, MIT Free show, and the rest of Kirkwood............

Each year, I subscribe, with hope in my heart. This is the year of Stanford, 2/9/73! Guess I'm feeling sentimental, again. But I have no real complaints. We have so many great recordings to choose from already!

I really have no ideas about #56. I remain curious about what remains in the video vault though. Maybe a combo CD/DVD release in the future? One can only dream...

And now, back to that wonderful show I just mentioned... What if Wavy and Friends wrote the liner notes to 2/9/73 also? It could even be a special edition release, priced to benefit charity.

Wavy has some wonderful ideas on how to re-use those Halloween costumes too. So, feel free to wear them a week early, if you happen to attend that other gathering....

well, well. It was an '81!
Looks real interesting too, the second overseas Dave's Series release.

The cover looks something Ritchie Blackmore and R.J. Dio would've put out in the late 1970s.

incredible! Together with Paris 1990 that’s 3 shows that I’ve been to which have now been released.
I went to the first March 1981 shows with a bunch of friends from where I worked at City University just a few miles from the venue. I was knocked out and went to the second night too. Then again in October.
I wonder if Dave filmed his chat in London a few months back when BobbybWeir was in town?

GD Movie was released in 1976 (50 years) and the soundtrack has been Plangentized, Normanized, and pressed to vinyl.
Only makes sense to Plangentize all the reels.
So the 2026 Box should be the 50th anniversary of the Movie with the complete run, audio and video, released.
    .
But, 50 years since 1976 also requires the remainder of June 76 to be released.
    .
So Dave/Rhino, just give us both.

My first show was at Frost, May 10, 1986. I was fortunate to see a great show amid gorgeous weather and incredible vibes. I had only ever heard Workingman's Dead. I got treated to great playing and an excellent set list. At one point I thought, "this is the most unusual music I have ever heard." Later, "this has got to be the best band in America." On the bus, just like that.

That was a strange and good run of shows. First Visions of Johanna, Box of Rain breakout, Supplication without Lazy Lightning (I think just the second time they did that, the first being William and Mary '76 - DaP4, the last Lazy Lightnin was 10/31/84).

    Sleeper shows, underrated.

It's such a shame that the Fillmore East April 71 run was never released in it's entirety!
I always thought '71 was the quintessential Live Dead. These five nights that closed this historic venue are some of the best shows of the year. It has been released in dribs and drabs over the years, from Skull and Roses, to a 4 CD compilation and a 60 CD box set, we still don't have all the shows. Alas: Not much has been released from 4/26/71. Going by memory, I think only a few tunes from that night appear on Skull and Roses & Ladies and Gentlemen. So in a nutshell ... It's time to release 4/26/71 Fillmore East, COMPLETE!

    Thank You. ;o)
