Only fresh comment, since it came today, the "seed card" should have just been in the box to save on the postage.

Cute box in any event, I've only picked at the thing, but the first Merriweather is a beautiful recording.

Hershey's Dew has some nice Phil well recorded.

As I said in another page, nice to see preorder stuff come on release day.

I also noticed that it disappeared. I checked old links and none work so I don't think it sold out, it seems to have been pulled.

Yes I bought it also and only go a shipping notice for the seed card? WTF and thinking my boxset has been ripped off too. Perhaps they should package them in a nondescript box?

Kind of surprised they decided to include the belches that somebody (lookin' at you, Kreutzmann) let loose during the general chaos that precedes the beginning of that legendary Shakedown on 6/30/85. Wish I had been a fly on the wall for that discussion.
Now, generally speaking, I'm pro burp. Some years ago, when the people in charge of reissuing Iggy & the Stooges Raw Power decided to omit the belch that precedes the opening chords on the title track, causing a kerfuffle amongst Stooges aficionados, I was solidly in favor of including the belch. It kinda sets the tone for that tune, which could be characterized as a sleaze rock ode to the pleasures of narcotics.
But I'm kind of on the fence about the Shakedown belchfest, which caused my wife to go, "Eww" when I played the track for her. Shakedown being one of her favorite songs. On the whole, though, I would have to concede that the belches are an integral part of the yelping and thumping and general weirdness that leads into that track, and therefore must remain part of the historical record.
Anyway ... I am nothing but stoked about this release. The packaging is cool, it arrived promptly one day after the official release date, and the two shows I've listened to so far, the 6/14 Greek and 6/30 Merriweather, are top notch. The Berkeley show is even better than I remembered: great Dancin opener, and the whole second set sequence in amazing. A wonderful understated solo at the end of Dew. great China Doll that prompts a very cool little jam, Bob going full Wolf on Smokestack Lightning, a very moving Comes a Time. Outstanding stuff. Hoping to find time to play the 6/15 Greek later today.

... I remember getting an email stating that would be sent separately. I'm guessing probably due to the fragility and all? Candle notwithstanding, anyways I had a hoodie too so all my stuff was in a bigger box. Delivered early today as the Fed Ex route around here goes.

I love how compact this Box Set is! Fits real easy on the shelf which already has space in short supply. Last few days I've been jamming to the listening party tracks and WOW! They are unique indeed, can't wait to dive in. Number 02360 arrived just a bit outside PdXs!

As for the beer belching goes?
Well, sometimes ya gotta get that gas outta your guts! Especially if you are drumming, (I suspected Phil?) or playing any instrument for that matter on stage.
Beer sloshing around in bellies causes extra problems burping because the air bubbles don't leave your esophagus, the beer foam catches and prevents it from expelling.

On the third Greek show and i'm loving this box! I was really only familiar with the Hershey show from this tour and the Merriweather Shakedown. Big Fun
I do hope those still waiting get their stuff soon.
Also, the seed card came with my shirt which came today in the mail

I have only played the first show of the set (at home and to and from work) and it is really good. I really enjoy how Bill and Mickey have developed their roles at this point. The show seems thoughtful on the first set, The second set Morning dew opener showcases the heaviness of the lyrics, the rest of the 2nd set is a great mix of songs and playing. Really enjoying this box.
Peace and blessings

is impeccable. As is the case with most of the recent releases. They seem to have the process dialed in pretty well.

The sound clarity of this box really makes you appreciate the greatness of this band. Haven’t listened to the Greeks yet, but Hershey has been the surprise so far. It was a dreary day and we were all exhausted from the never-ending overnight drive from Saratoga. It’s nice to hear it again in a better frame of mind.

Saratoga and first night Jerryweather are smokin of course. But, the mix is much better than the versions I have heard previously. Keep on growin . . .

I am mostly through the Greek shows and really enjoying it. The first night is fantastic, from the Dancin' opener. Once the sonic issues are resolved on night three, it settles in nicely. Set two smokes, but would be better without all of Healy's audio effects. Hearing Healy's additions reminded me I had that show either on tape in the way back or someone burned me a cd in the more recent past. Tonight I listen to SPAC, which I know a friend burned for me a few years ago, but it had many audio issues.

I tried to read the booklet again, but just can't get through it. Several releases now where I can't stand Merriweather's writing style. This booklet is astonishingly boring. Regardless, again, it is all about the tunes and we have that well covered in greatness.

Got mine last Saturday and two days earlier than expected. Yeah! Spot listened last weekend to the Hershey, SPAC and MPP shows as I was already familiar with them. Everything resounding with brilliant clarity, as expected. Interesting context for the Hershey show mentioned below, which explains the mellower vibe. Makes a great contrast when side by side with the others. The Greek shows will be new for me and I'm looking forward to starting some close listening tomorrow evening. All in all, a great addition and one I've been waiting for pretty much since I signed up with the Dave releases. These along with the '81 shows that have been worked in over the past year or two. The collection is really filling in nicely! More Fall '89 is now the notable absence.

#498 is in the house. Listening to the Greek show from 6/14. Just started so I will withhold comments until I am done. You never know. Loving it so far.
These shows were all recorded on Cassette, correct? I remember a time when they never would have thought of releasing cassettes for box sets. I am glad that changed with MSG and a couple of Dave's releases.
The box is small, which is okay, I was just a little surprised for a 20 CD set. The book is even smaller, which I don't like at all as I like to read these and it is tough with my eyes. Anyway, hope you all get yours and I will enjoy the new shows over the next few weeks.

Which would be alright if we at least knew where it was or if it’s even coming!!
Have tried contacting “customer service” yeah right, what a joke, actually more like an insult!
One reply, from Monica (bot?) gives a date for something sent out in July 2025?
One says the email addy is not recognized, which is complete BS as it’s the only one that’s ever been used! Mind boggling, but hey AI is going to fix everything.

Box and vinyl somewhere. Who knows. A couple months ago I ordered a GD bootleg from UK. I got updates every two days and was even updated as to time of delivery. I don't get why this is so difficult unless they just don't care. Frankly, after the 73 box debacle I think they don't care. In that case they should have rerun the production and made those of us holding badly damaged cds whole! I did get a digital download but not what I ordered or paid for. Still stings.

I was on the fence with this one. 85 made me wary. And the box design/art didn’t grab me the way others have. Glad I went all in though. Enjoying every second of it so far, plus the box itself is a gem in its own right. These shows will def get some repeat play.

I think the 3/10 show has stood out. And not because it's Mrs. Marley1's birthday, ha! They do a Truckin'>Smokestack Lightning that I really like. They also do that again on the 3/22 show that came out this Tuesday. I'm also digging Black Peter from this year. Jerry's gravelly voice really seems to fit the story.

#9628 arrived and the first Berkeley show is keeping me home from my office. I too was wary of 85 but 6/30/85 on PD and now this are just magnificent. No wonder I saw so many shows in this period!

Without a doubt these shows sound like Summer. What hits you in mid June as we inch closer and closer to the solstice-- that brightness, the wild hyperactivity, the overgrown world of colors and kinetic excitement, as loose like it is carefree (cue in birdies during the 16th's Space....). And if you live in the northeast, even more so. Because it's finally warm! But on a more autumnal critical note, did they not have soundchecks for the Greek shows? I've only skimmed the Meriwether writing but saw something about how there were odd times for the shows. Maybe that explains it.

Not arrived yet in UK. Tracking the alternate code ending DE shows it was supposed to leave Germany last Friday and I’d get an update when it arrived. About an hour later Royal Mali sent an email saying they expected it and it would probably attract a customs charge. They said they’d be in touch when it arrived. Since then no tracking has updated and I’ve heard nothing. How can it take a week to get from Germany to the UK? Still living in hope.

So maybe it was actually Phil.

And as long as we're discussing Shakedowns of the GOAT variety, allow me to nominate the one from that 3-17-93 Cap Centre show that some of us felt like was such a hidden gem in the ETR box. I might give it a slight edge over the 6'16-85: it's got synth "horn" parts that really serve the funk (echoing at times JB's Give It Up and Turn it Loose), a really nice keys solo (maybe from Bruce) and some synth bass (probably Gacia with the midi) that really funks things up.

Anyway ... currently listening to the 6-16-85 Berkeley show. Surprising that there's so much weirdness with the audio for the first couple tracks, given that this was the third night at a venue they've played so many times. You'd think it'd been dialed in at that point, right? But it takes a couple tunes before everything is just exactly perfect (maybe that's why this was never a Dave's or Dicks?), and coincidentally or not, the first set takes a few songs to get off the ground for me. Second set's great. Interesting and unusual grooves on the Scar>Fire, the Cryptical revival, a spacey space (including another belch) and grate closing sequence. Plenty of rawk, and I'm always a sucker for a good Brokedown Palace. This one's aged very well.

New status -

Arrival Frankfurt this morning 9.38 h.
Next will be customs clearance and hopefully in the house mid/end next week.

What are the Heineken years by the way?

My understanding is that there was a time when Phil required a certain number of cases of Heineken at every show and one can find many photos of those green bottles somewhere near Phil. He himself admits it was a factor in his needing a liver transplant later in life.

Mid seventies through mid eighties is what I’ve read.
And from his book, page 278 (in 86)
“In anticipation of becoming a father, I quit using drugs completely, which wasn’t hard, since my usage had dwindled dramatically, and I also began to restrict my wine intake to a couple glasses at dinner— to quit drinking altogether was a much more difficult challenge”
On page 289 he says he stopped completely in 1990 after his Hep C diagnosis.
Insider anecdotal information suggests he, like Crosby etc, were “California sober”: a little weed, occasional glass of wine etc….

Most dad's couldn't afford that stuff. I love the part in Phil's book where he describes drinking at breakfast, and he's like, need to pick up, do a line, need to come down, have a Heineken and so the cycle just repeated all day every day

Mine has made it to the UK. It has been sent to Coventry and is being assessed by Customs. Hope to see it by the end of next week.

For the first Greek show, Brent switching to a grand piano on his synth right when the Sugar Magnolia jam takes off was a fresh surprise. And then right around the 4 minute mark, sounds like Phil clicks on some sort of distortion that stretches his tone out nicely. Jerry, of course, threading through it all. And I keep finding these sorts of little subtle moments with each listen. For another example, second night's Lost Sailor's drifting 'n' dreaming.... Phil's bombs at the end of the SPAC Truckin'....

Had a skeezy couple of cassettes of this show
Hearing the show on CD now is glorious

My wife's totally into tarot, and when I showed her the cards she thought they were very cool but said they were not actual tarot cards. And it's certainly not a full deck. But the art work is great. If they could get the guy who did these images to do a full tarot deck I'm it'd sell.
Sorry to hear some folks are still waiting on their orders. Hopefully that will all be sorted very soon.

That might make a good side trip for some enterprising artist. There was a great pack named "Starman" that came out a year or so ago. Illustrated by David De Angelis, who did the cover of some late era David Bowie albums. Eye boggling.

There are fewer than 10 cards included; it's not a full deck, nor are there any suits. Perhaps they are better described as tarot-esque illustrated cards done in the theme of the box set, e.g. alchemy. Still cool. They could surely sell a deck of these if they wanted to expand the concept.

As well, I want to extend some empathy to those who are still waiting. I noticed my post landed amidst several posts from folks who are yet without their boxes, while there I was, extolling the coolness of the blacklight. That felt slightly tone deaf. I hope everyone's boxes are soon to arrive, and summer magic - if a bit delayed - can commence.

I was interested to read that a pack of tarot cards are included in the box. Not generally referred to, and not, as far as I can see, available to buy outside of the box.
I remember images of cards were included in the graphics on the So Far video that came out, which featured live 1985 music I think. Why tarot cards were linked with this year specifically, I know not.

Lovely size for this box! Something to consider going forward, smaller compact boxes with the same amount of attention to detail as its larger cousins, perfect. It’s almost a singular monument to a time and place and doesn’t need two pairs of hands and an empty craft desk to open!

The extras are all a nice to have with only the book being a must. The UV stuff is a barrel of fun and the artwork is very different in a good way! All in all a great sounding and tactile experience. Tonight is finally the “Main Course” listen, In a deep and comfortable hot bathtub with patchouli bath bomb and some kind of moody sea texture lighting and a good graphic novel. Well done David L and co. This is a superb box! Sometimes less really is more. X
