Alright, I've had this idea bounce through my head a time or two... i know, i know, a whole lotta people don't give a crap about Post-Brent but... 4 show box set of the Halloween run in 1991. That first night was essentially a wake for Bill Graham and included Carlos and Gary Duncan and the first playing of Mono since i forget when and (without checking out the setlist...) wasn't there another nugget of extra-special joy in there? Plus you almost can't beat a Sugar Mags to open a show! Jerry played his heart out for Bill... i felt like Jer was playing for no one in the crowd, only for Bill alone... it was quite moving. And if this ever comes to be, if I remember correctly there was an inbetween set, short speech, by Graham's son, i think, and if that was recorded it should be included, as well. Couple more shows thrown in for the heck of it and then comes the wham bam trick or treat Ken Kesey Halloween night Ahhhhhh-ooooooooooo Werewolves of London! Wrap the whole baby up with a Halloween theme and include an ode to Graham and an ode to Kesey, and folks will be glad to have some officially released 91 shows, i'll guarantee it! And for God's sake, don't make it a compilation... include every note! (Does 11-3-91 fit on one disc? If so -- hey, throw that in, too!)

Common or not, 11/7/87 deserves the full loving treatment of a CD release. And, if what I heard about what happened after that show was true, a good title might be, "Play it again, Dan." :)-- Yes it's me, I'm the pride of Cucamonga, I can see golden forests in the sun.

the rumors that I heard were that Dick, before he passed away, left some pretty specific instructions regarding which shows and when his 'picks' were to be released... a rumor, don't know if it is true or not. did anyone ever hear just exactly how many 'picks' he made?? peace. I would like to see the best shows in the vault be released. On the old forum, I started a topic of "favorite Grateful Dead year" and there were a variety of years listed from all of the replies. Since it is a monumental task to thin down the Dead's best shows for release, I think there should be a ballot or voting system where all of us can vote for our top 3-5 shows for each year. Once the voting is done, the crew can start producing the releases based on the fan voting. In that way, everyone should get a show they want released and the fans can be active particpants in the process. There will probably be a lot of similar choices for each year. See, my problem is that I just want as many of the best shows as I can get, so it really becomes hard to decide on a starting point. I primarily like shows from 69 through 74 and 77, but also like shows from 87 to 90. Even more of a problem is that there a just too many great shows in general to decide from. I think if we got several of the best shows from each year, I might calm down a bit (he he). Rick Do or do not; there is no try.

I think it's a splended idea by Gratefulhan to have a thread where everyone can list their 5 favorite shows from each year. Maybe it could become a poll thread. My favorite years pretty much fall in line with Gratefulhans (emphasis on 87-90). My favorites are either single shows or runs. 1987: 6/26-28 Alpine Valley 8/11-13 Red Rocks 8/22-23 Calaveras County Fairgrounds, Angel's Camp, Ca. 11/13-15 Long Beach Arena, Long Beach, Ca 12/27-31 Oakland Coliseum Arena, Oakland, Ca. (including material left off Ticket to New Years) 1988: 4/13-15 Rosemont Horizon, Rosemont, Il. 7/2-3 Oxford Plains Speedway, Oxford, Me. 7/29-31 Laguna Seca Recreation Area, Monterey, Ca. 9/3 Capital Centre, Landover, Md. 12/9-11 Long Beach Arena, Long Beach, Ca. 1989: 5/6-7 Frost Amphitheatre, Stanford U., Palo Alto, Ca. 6/21 Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, Ca. (DVD of Pay Per View including everything like the between set footage and full encore) 10/8-9 Hampton Coliseum, Hampton, Va. 10/26 Miami Arena, Miami, Fl. 12/30-31 Oakland Coliseum Arena, Oakland, Ca. 1990: 3/29-30 Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Uniondale, N.Y. 5/5-6 California State U. I would like to see what else they can salvage from the Houseboat Tapes that Jerry gave Keith from the 1971 Fall Tour. I love this time period right before they took off for Europe and would like to see some releases perhaps the rest of the Pallidium run in August would be nice.

Just dreamin' here. I know we already have great Dick's Picks and Downloads, etc., from '77 and '72, but a cool post-9/03/77 release in time for it's anniversary would be fitting. And for '72, though maybe a little too tight on the heels of FTV 3, 6/26, a sweet 8/27/72 whole-nine-yards package would be sublime. Most important, a 40-year anniversary package of post-9/03/67, "primal" Dead would surely re-open the eyes of perception nicely. I realize, of course, that if none of these has been in the works, it is not going to happen...but there's always '78, '73 and '68, verdad? What ev's, so be it, fare ye well - I'll just keep dreamin'. Gracias por todo. So many great shows from so many great years make it a tough gig. "I primarily like shows from 69 through 74 and 77, but also like shows from 87 to 90." Couldnt agree more. And dont forget the sublime '76, rocking '78-'79; '82, '85. JEEZ, but dont get me wrong, I am extremely grateful for those that looked to the future in the past so we could have what we have. Cheers! It's hard for me to pick because I'm not to sure what's in there. I know some of what's been brought up isn't actually in there and this is according to Dick and David. The Greek '81 doesn't exist in the the vault as well as a lot of the Betty Boards that have been in circulation. Most of 1979 to 1981 is not in there and what is has a lot of problems with tape running out and such. I would like to say I agree with the idea that the Dead should cut out all the limited edition crap as all that does is reward the person with the most money who can buy fourty copies and then turn around and sell them for a fortune on eBay when they're not Heads anyway.

With all the great shows that are already in circulation and available from one source or another, I'm not too specific about what I'd like to see come out. Just for my own personal satisfaction, I hope that some day they release a show that I was at. Summer '85 would be a great place to start.

Reno 74..."Hey Bobby, Get it on!" is what someone yells on my AUD tape...If theres a SBD of this to be remasted...the Mind left body jam is amazing! GG Park 75 - Music is really fun but the banter about the baby being born is just a crack up... Needs to be released... Brent's 1st show in SJ 4/79 or the rehearsals would be cool. My 1st show 9/5/82 US Festival - just becasue you want to always hear your 1st show on CD remastered...lol Jerry's comback show 12/86 - you can tell how stoked the band is... Hampton 89 - That DS is amazing! The 2/92 Oakland run with the new material....

The second set is absolutely amazing! (I haven't heard the first.) Lazy Supplication into Weather Report, then drums, more weather report, and it all dissolves all rumbly and bumpily into Warf Rat... a jam for the ages. Lazy and Weather Report (and the drum jam) are so hot that it is unbelieveable this music could have been made by a group of human beings. I have this on a very lo-fi vinyl bootleg I purchased in the late seventies. I have to tweak all the knobs to make it sound right, but man! I keep coming back to this one, and would love to hear it released.

I had seen the Allmans a few time at the Fillmore East, and was really not impressed. I wondered why Bill kept booking them. They were bottom of the bill on a Fillmore East show with GD & Love. I was hoping for a GD jam with some of the Love guys, and I was surprised when Duane came out to jam. Soon his Brother Greg came out and sat down at the organ. Suddenly I got it, the Allmans didn't suck, their gear did. They had been playing shows with studio gear. Hearing them through the Dead's gear they sound killer. Soon Butch Trucks came out and sat at Mickey's kit, Greg & Pig were trading verses on some blues song & the place went wild. Soon the Allmans came back with a very Dead like amp setup and recorded the "Live at the Fillmore" shows. I often wonder if they ever would've hit if they hadn't felt the power & presence of the GD PA, and I'm not talking the wall of sound stuff either. So long story short I would love to hear All the Dead/Allmans jams. Deadhead since '69

It's a bit of a problem being on the wrong side of the big pond but here's a few possibilities in no order whatsoever that I have, or had, on old vinyl or cassettes and reel to reel... 9-18-74 Parc Des Expositions, Dijon, France. Set one. Scarlet Begonias (a wonderful 11ish minutes of calypso flavoured Dead) 5-16-72 Radio Luxembourg complete. 3-28-81 Grugahalle, Essen, W.Germany. Complete. Unfortunately here in England we got the first set broadcast on television but it ended before Deal had finished, and the whole thing broadcast on the radio with station announcers telling us throughout set two what Pete Townshend was wearing and when he was doing his windmill movements... The first set includes my daughter's favourite ever Sugaree, and I have to admit I can see why. Rumour has it there could be a dvd floating about, but if it ain't region 2 then it's back to the hunt... 10-31-90. Wembley Arena, England. Halloween 'Cause it was the last Dead gig I went to (That's a hint, guys...) and it rocks... and the following night (which I couldn't get to) at the same venue, 11-1-90 of which set one is a bit like Hundred Year Hall's, but set two has an amazing Playing>Dark Star>Drumz>Jam>Dark Star>Playing>Wharf Rat>Throwing Stones>Not Fade Away... That'll do me, the rest is as it comes. Chris

Release the best shows from places that tended to bring out a little more from the band, like Cal Expo, Red Rocks, Alpine Meadows, Merriwether Post, Berkeley Community Theater, Autzen Stadium, the Greek, and no doubt others. And unusual shows, like Melk Weg. Also, go through the Rex Foundation benefits and put out the best of those (and give the profits to the foundation). DW

Still the best show I have on tape and maybe the only show I ever attended that sounded as good at home as it did at the show. Song selection, the band's energy and most importantly their accuracy were excellent (as were most of the '77 shows, I'll admit). Oh and the fact that puts it over the top - (besides me being there), was that bone chilling ending to "Uncle John's Band" (which I've never heard them do, before or since). The Dude Abides!

We taped this show (I think GRTUD was there as well) and it came out as clear as a sound board. In fact I believe this audience recording is up on btree or some other such site now. The reason I can't remember if GRTUD was there or not was the fact it came off so well. He usually screwed something up or caught more of the drunken rabble non sense than the music. This particular evening the cosmic characters aligned and transposed it's lovely identity to the fine magnetic reasoning of the current technology. What a great "STRANGE - FRANKLIN" in the second set. The first set might not be all that, except for "LET IT GROW" (?). I remember thinking the year before how much the place (venue) looked like a space ship but this was the year it came off the ground. I don't think I ever made it back there again, sadly. GRTUD married Ono, and the fab four of our high school years was never the same. Responsibility, duty, fiscal constraints (jobs & family) laid it all to waste as we ushered in the new era of Big Brother. We all kept up the the "Jones'", in one way or other, if you catch my drift. Great show, though. "All energy flows according to the whims of the Great Magnet. What a fool I was to defy him."

There are great Boards of this show in circulation. They had to come from somewhere. I really like to see an offical Dead realease of this show in some form, barring iTunes, or another. Last B-more show and a really nice turn people on show for me. Probably best show I had the pleasure of attending. Everything I've learned is from The Grateful Dead and Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

Generally speaking, anything from the beginning of 1989 'til Brent's death, but more specifically, the 2 RFKs from July 1989 (12th & 13th). A pair of Summer gems right there. Another twosome would be the Hamptons from October '89, which i'm sure have been mentioned countless times here elsewhere.
