I’ve heard em both before, liked the former more this time around (nice Latvala pull)
Well played, even, but a tad laid back comparatively, though it really picks up from Estimated onward…also rocking GL, and Supplication.
The latter starts out a tad more inspired, levels off a bit, but second sounding good…on Scarlet)
Doing archive today, all of 57 mañana…

Box 07275 arrived in France, one month and 39€tax. I listened the first 3 shows from Tampa to Jacksonville. Good shows, great recordings. I am not a big fan of the long drums sequence but very happy with this terrific music. Thanks Dave & Jeffrey, well done. Waiting for another dose of 78 with Dave picks 57.

Hey rockers!!

Today's commute----Ann Arbor December 14 1971. One of my favorite shows. Well played, well recorded, and officially released!!

Sitting at my desk, gearing up for another fun day in the morgue. So May 26 1972 suits me just fine...................

Yes my friends, I must confess, I'm stuck in a time warp with another fine musical mess!!

Find a place inside where there's joy, and the joy will burn out the pain.....

Rock on!

Dave's Picks 57 disc 3
I have that Latvala of 1/30 but haven't played it yet.
So I guess the FOTD, April 78 box is still available?
I recently bought a copy of Pure Jerry Marin Vets 2/28/86 for sad sentimental reasons :)
I was NOT there btw...

I channeled Wayne from Wayne and Garth during the climax. (Huh huh hehheh...I said climax.)
Sometime soon I'll listen to disc 2 of #57.
I understand there is some hot stuff to experience.

Forever Changes is their classic, but this may be more shagadelic. After inventing punk rock on side 1, they go on to invent jazz rock on side 2. Respect.
Elsewhere we have the 1959 Alan Lomax recordings from 1959 by Mississippi Fred McDowell and the Complete Recordings of Blind Willie Johnson - which features probably the first recording of Samson and Delilah - titled here "If I had My Way". Nearly 100 years old, this one.
Last Dead - Copenhagen 4/14/72.

Currently listening to Slowhand at 70: Live at the Albert Hall

In the background, as folks are trickling in for our Super Bowl party. A small affair, nothing rowdy. The wife grew up in Massachusetts, so we're all leaning New England here. Seattle obviously favored. The only path to victory for NE will be to go ahead early, defensive or special teams touchdown, Drake Maye keeping his foot on the gas and force Sam Darnold to throw. Hit him hard, early, and often, make him hear footsteps, rush his reads and throws. Seattle has been so dominant in the run game and on defense, the achilles heel of Sam Darnold has yet to be exposed. Hopefully today.

Will get back to Clapton after the game. Cheers everyone... may the best team (today) win.

Went to Amazon and found MP3 players have come down a LOT since I bought my last one.

Found some no name one, rechargeable, Bluetooth, headphone jack, 144 g mem chip.

Was only 26 bucks!!!

Got it, listening to books already :-) Jack Reacher is kicking ass!

One of the "break-out" dates. 2/18/71, 10/19/71, 8/13/75, 6/03/76 are others. Today's has China Doll, Eyes, H.C. Sunshine, Loose Lucy, TLEO, Row Jimmy & Wave That Flag. The band sounds refreshed and excited at each of these gigs. We've got two of the five ...

2/13 and 2/14/70 of course. Very noticeable how clear Bob is in the mix. Tom Constanten never seemed that dominant or loud a player, but after he left Bob's playing seemed to come forward a lot more. This is a great recording - I was lucky enough to get the vinyl edition last year, and it does sound superb. Both Dark Star and The Other One are split across sides, which may put off some, but I don't mind.

I made a bunch of prop bets on the Super Bowl, as I usually do. My only bets of the year (Yes. Not everyone who lives in Vegas gambles).
Made enough to pay for the records I got earlier in the day. Works for me.

Good morning rockers!!!

As of today, have completed my seventieth trip around the sun. In honor of that auspicious occasion, will listen to nothing but 1970 shows all day. Think I'll start with 2-11-70.......

LOL also treated myself to a beautiful high quality used Blueridge jumbo acoustic. I'm worth it!!!!

The secret of genius is to carry the spirit of the child into old age, which means never losing your enthusiasm.....

Rock on!!!

Doc
What makes old age hard to bear is not the failing of one's faculties, mental and physical, but the burden of one's memories.....
P.S. To keep the heart unwrinkled, to be hopeful, kindly, cheerful, reverent - that is to triumph over old age......

That's a good one. You're probably also good at limericks............

Here's one of my favorite poems, just for you:

I have been one acquainted with the night.
I have walked out in rain—and back in rain.
I have outwalked the furthest city light.

I have looked down the saddest city lane.
I have passed by the watchman on his beat
And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.

I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet
When far away an interrupted cry
Came over houses from another street,

But not to call me back or say good-bye;
And further still at an unearthly height,
One luminary clock against the sky

Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.
I have been one acquainted with the night.

Doc
P.S. Here's another:
Do not stand
By my grave, and weep.
I am not there,
I do not sleep—

I am the thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints in snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle, autumn rain.

As you awake with morning’s hush,
I am the swift, up-flinging rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight,
I am the day transcending night.

Do not stand
By my grave, and cry—
I am not there,
I did not die.

Hey hey hey rockers,

Started with 2/11/70. Got to my office, Family Dog 2/28/70. Then one of the big guns---Fillmore East 9/19/70. Now munching lunching, highlights of Fillmore West June 1970. Very uneven, some mistakes, but some great stuff too. TPTB could release the judiciously edited highlights maybe kinda sorta.......

Everybody in my office is asking, "Why are you here?". LOL it's all my parents fault, if they hadn't ........well ahh.............naw let's not go there............

Next up: highlights from April 1970. There's some real Good Old Grateful Dead there.............

Keep it rockin',

Yes, many shows in common, mostly in New England. LOL I was the guy shouting for Dark Star, Alligator, and Viola Lee Blues. I think they did all three of those while I ran to the bathroom......

Then you relocated to the left coast................

Seek not in me the bit I capital,
Not yet the little dotted in me seek.
If I have in me any I at all,
'Tis the iota subscript of the Greek.

So small an I as an attention beggar.
The letter you will find me subscript to
Is neither alpha, eta, nor omega,
But upsilon which is the Greek for you.

Rock it!!

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favour fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.....

Robert Frost always makes me think of 5th grade, when the teacher made us memorize a poem and recite it in front of the class. What a different world it was. As kids, we were often tasked with memorizing state capitals, times tables, all sorts of things that would be considered pointless and in fact downright cruel in this age where such information is always just a tap on the smartphone away. I didn't like it much at the time, but now I'm kind of glad we had to do all that memorizing. Mental calisthenics, if nothing else. And I despite all the many things I have learned and forgotten since 5th grade, I can still remember every line of Stopping By Woods.

Listening to Miles at the Plunged Nickel at the moment. They reissued this one, which is now available as a budget box set, got the whole shebang for $60. Packaging is beyond cheapo, a flimsy paper box that's going to fall apart almost immediately, but the music is amazing. You all know about this one, no need to go on about the Miles-Herbie-Wayne-Ron Carter-Tony Williams group. Wonderful to just put in a disc and just drift and meditate along with them.

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Hey, poetry rockers!!!

I always struggle reading Stopping By Woods to my girlfriend. I'm usually a crying puddle of goo by the end. And LOL it's not a long poem. Short and strong. Serves me right for being a sensitive 70 year old. Not exactly sure what it means, but powerful stuff just the same..........

A civilized society is one which tolerates eccentricity to the point of doubtful sanity....

Think I'll go write a poem,

Yeah the new JOTW is what I'm listening to. Very cool BCE that you experienced this show! Fine "newly minted" electric version of Bird Song (less than a year since it's return in those acoustic sets.) Sort of jarring that it goes into BIODTL : ) And there's a Cumberland! Followed by a ripping Passenger. Looking at the Set list for Set II and it is chock full of goodness. Did a double take when I saw the Sugar Magnolia / Sunshine Daydream sandwich around Black Peter > Around to close out the set!

I was already on the bus for many years, but this show, 9/25/1981, Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, PA., is where I really stepped up my game and really began to appreciate the Grateful Dead even more. It also helps that this is my hometown show; I lived only 15 minutes away. It's not the best, but it's a very good overlooked little gem.
I would really LOVE to see this show released as a Dave's Picks very soon, because I'm getting old and I don't have many healthy years left in me.

I think the one from NYE 85 (1985-12-31) is better. Bob's is all over the rhythm. Takes a "dark" turn before coming back at the end. The drums come on strong.

Of course matter of taste :-)

Sure it's been mentioned before but a box of NYE shows be cool,,, I think the internet says 22 shows.
