Sounds grate, even for being a cassette master.

But the notes says “Master DAT was used to cover the tape flips and some of the…..”
Master DAT?
Hope the master DAT’s are in the Vault and Dave/Rhino give in to what many of us have been asking for which is a Tinley Park Box of complete audio and video.
Come on Dave…..

7-21,22-90 were my 3rd and 4th shows.
7-23-90? Well, like a fool I missed it and it strangled up my mind…….

As I should have suspected (and seem to have known and forgotten) 7/18 was recorded and broadcast for the King Biscuit Flower Hour, was not just a local market night of show broadcast. I came across a SHF reference from 2011 that the King Biscuit mix (broadcast nationally 11/28/76) is different from the local broadcast mix (for one thing more audience). The King Biscuit show is up on the archive, transferred from the original reels sent to a subscribing station complete with commercials. The Go To Nassau 1980 release was from multitrack recorded by KBFH. A couple of years ago I was wondering aloud on one of the forums here about possible multitrack releases from shows partially broadcast on KBFH.

It’s an Aud, but it received the PF seal of approval so I’m down!
Hmmm looks like some easy grease blowing across the bayou today…

“I want you to Turn to the person next to you and insult them”

“Take it easy out there you unruly freaks” lol

Good Job BC! Sounds like we still don’t know but there’s hope 🤞
And…if they did Go To Nassau on multi, then WTF Dave, break out the whole shows! “We want the multis, gotta have them multis” 🎶 (set to we want the funk)

Skipped a couple I’ve already enjoyed, so onto the Miles Davis gig.
Been wondering about this one? Recordings decent but inconsistent, doesn’t seem to be correct order but too busy to look up now…

Good Job PF! 3/21/70 was worth the sonic shortfalls, though really not bad for an aud BITD. Hope there’s tapes somewhere? What difference between the NY crazy’s and the much more polite FW crowd lol

I was able to buy this recently for a decent price, I had never heard these shows before. I finally played it last week after istening to FOTD April '78 box for.... too long. That box didn't really grow on me like I thought it would.

Anyway, starting a second go around with 7/24/87 seems like a solid release I guess :)

For the first time in awhile, listening to UJB>Wharf rat>DS>Sugar magnolia from last night of the Europe 72 tour. Sorta hard to go wrong here

That original album, Europe 72, is a great record. I've been listening to Wembley 4/8/72 this afternoon - on vinyl as part of the box set that came out a few years ago. If this is still available I would highly recommend it.

As a counter point I have started on the David Bowie box set " Rock N' Roll Star" which focuses on his recording of "Ziggy Stardust" and the BBC recordings from 1972. Excellent - but so different from what the Dead were playing around the same time in Europe. There's a beautiful hard back book in the Bowie box, and in one of the printed interviews from 1972, Charles Shaar Murray quizzes him about being camp, and says "No one ever called Jerry Garcia camp". To which Bowie replies, " No, right, but he's a musician. And I'm not a musician." Then.. " I have a creative force which finds it's way through into a musical form".

5-3-91 109233.sbd.miller >
5-4-91 109234.sbd.miller >
5-5-91 19181.sbd.hinko

In order, just started the 5th.
It’s not a miller but says the source is:
DSBD>CD>EAC>SHN.

Sounds good.

Dave,
We need more Bruce releases. Video too.

... having attended all three. : ))

However, the Archive element at this site lists these Rex Foundation shows as "without" Bruce, as opposed to "with".
IIRC, it was the August trio (my last three attended) for which Bruce was not present. Those are also excellent - and any amount of either run that could be released as a DP would be most welcome!

Took a spur of the moment road trip down from Seattle to the May '91 Cal Expo run. Friend of a friend (we had met at '87 Red Rocks) hooking me up with tickets. Lot of fun - especially enjoyed 5/4 and 5/5. My only shows of the Bruce era and he wasn't there. The funny thing being I'd seen him as a guest twice (Buckeye '88 and GWF '89) before Brent passed away. The 5/5/91 Terrapin > Spanish (sounding) Jam > Terrapin apparently was broadcast on the GDH. It's been uploaded to the archive (and available on relisten) but not with an attached 5/5/91 date. Rather, its at the end of the Set II pre-drums of a GDH?/SBD upload of 5/24/95 Memorial Stadium, Seattle, the only part of that show that circulates as a SBD source (really really need 5/23 and 5/24 SBDs released - 5/24 was the final Wheel and Drum > Space > Wheel was freaking amazing.) So I was on the rail for 5/23. And that too was truly a good show - the Want To Tell > Estimated in that upload is excellent. Felt like Jerry played I Want To Tell You for me or rather as an expression of where I was at - I was going through a break up and was in a place where I was at a loss for words (at the time I didn't even know they occasionally covered Want To Tell). During the Estimated jam Jerry locked eyes with me and "asked" what I wanted him to play and I replied I didn't know and so he kept jamming out Estimated - missed opportunity. He seemed in good spirits and relative health during that run. When I saw him 7/9 from 16th row center (by chance back in Chicago area visiting family and brother had extra ticket) Jerry was a different man, seemingly much heavier and very weary, bearing the weight of the world. . . . My apology for the repeated digressions from the simple fact that Cal Expo ' 91 was fun times!

Ok, better, best?…

The last 3 episodes uploaded on dead dot net are from 4/17/83 Meadowlands, the second night that has Stephen Stills guest appearance. Lucked into a second set SBD by summer '85 and I loved it. The H > S > F opening the set is pure fire, easily one of my favorites. Been listening to these episodes as part of my long haul drive music. Latest episode with Love The One Your With uploaded today - will be listening to it when I had back home this afternoon.

Had avoided this one until BC's post and going back for the H>S>F but the Stills sitting in on Love The One You're With was a train wreck, lol. Stills clearly cannot hear himself and the boys try their best but it's a bit rough. (as often happens on first attempts of covers) Yet a cool historic moment nonetheless. And not the first guest appearance to go astray so I enjoyed it "for what it's worth". Now there's a tune I wish they'd cover.
Cheers
Edit: Yep, that H>S>F is a good one. Tight, and I like Phil's work on this one.

Yeah the vocals on Love The One Your With are not just exactly perfect lol. Listening to it on my lo-fi system on drive back it seemed a bit more crazed than I remembered, had to turn it down a couple of notches (I tend to listen loud) and the backing vocals by Bobby? and Brent? are also a tad out there and just serve to reinforce that. Reminded me a little of Bobby shredding his voice in the old old days on rave up finale of some Pig Lovelights and Not Fade Aways. Back in the day I figured the 4/17 vocal thing was a surfeit of Bolivian marching powder and the wave of insane energy of a New York/ Meadowlands crowd/vibe but yeah Stills probably couldn't hear himself also. It didn't spoil the show in any way for me back then when I didn't have many tapes and it doesn't now. It just was what it was - a vocal rough spot in an otherwise stellar '83 show IMO and yeah an historic one-off performance of a classic song from the old days. Also want to add that along with that killer H > S > F, I love the Playing and the extended jam into drums. And listening to all this last little bit it struck me that Brent is throwing in some unusual keyboard sounds - like the "marimba" in the Help/Slipknot transition. I'm not a student/scholar of '83 (that would be Oro, among others) but really dig Brent's keyboards on this Set II. And yeah Phil is kicking it throughout and Jerry too his guitar is fire on that Slipknot. And right now listening pre-dawn with fresh coffee to H>S>F on the Senns to the Candace Brightman source on the archive and it is awesome! And going back to the GDH - one thing I enjoy is that along with the live shows, Gans is always serving up some relatively deep cuts from the greater GD catalog. Plus as a fan of Dead and Co he serves up the occasional killer D & C live SBD source, like in episode #1884 there's the Althea from 7/8/23 The Gorge which was coming out of a post -drums Dark Star! A little while ago he played the Cumberland from Oracle 7/16/23 and it was an absolutely ripping version, simply fantastic! His comment at the time was how D&C were really jamming out Cumberland in Set II and that was exactly what I got experience at Boulder 7/1/23. BTW - on a personal note we've been working down by Three Rivers Petroglyph National Monument north of Tularosa and had a chance to do a quick walk of the first section of the trail on a break. So much cool stuff packed tight and much of it different from the rock art up here. Need to visit there with some real free time - there's a nice campground I've heard at the base of Mt. Blanca.

ConeKid - That vault tour sounds cool. I think the winner should be able to liberate some uncirculated show of personal significance as part of the deal.

Nothing to be sorry for. I usually listen to the GD Hour every week and I love the tidbits he throws in as filler. Keeps me up to date, lol. When I started listening in the early '90s in PHX he always had fresh shows. Some only weeks old which was pretty cool. Not sure why I was skipping that 4-17-83 series but glad I went back to it. It was an "on" night. It's all about the energy and it is there on this one.
Thanks for the recommendation on the glyphs. Already working on this year's road trip schedule and will look that one up for sure. Love the inside info from pros in the field.
Cheers
I'll be finishing up Monday's Taper's today then see what DV's Pick-O-Day from EU72 ends up being.

All the talk about 4/17/83 and Steve Stills doing Love the One You're With.

How bout a little love for the night before 4/16. Steve also there and we got a Black Queen. (I had no idea what the song was that night!) But you also get a Bob Star.

But the best part is you get the GREATEST Looks Like Rain. At least for me this is it. The last 2 minutes of it are incredible. Bob is really belting out "looks like rain, feel like rain, can't take no more fucking rain", but Jerry's is just ripping it up with a series of staccato notes that make you feel the rain. Brings tears to my eyes everytime!

Extra - Daverock and Mr Tambourine Man. I wouldn't have gone with celebration of trippy, just a good poetic description of falling asleep. (Maybe my favorite Bob song. So many great lines) I always thought Eagle-Eye Cherry had a great cover of this concept with Comatose (In the Arms of Slumber). (now there's a great album, Desireless. Always loved the double meaning of "Shooting Up in Vain".

Okay Dennis - it's now on my short list! Thank you! Been ages since I've heard it so essentially it will be fresh listen. I remember hearing/reading that a whole lot of folks preferred 4/16 to 4/17.

!stShow - Three Rivers is very compact - hiking trail can't be more than a mile and a half total along a low, easy walking ridge line. 21,000 petroglyphs is what they say in that short distance. I've heard of one very cool glyph that is outside of it - would dm that if you were headed down there. Probably would want to tie it in with a visit to world famous Hueco Tanks (haven't had to visit that site yet.) Alas I'm only down in southern NM for work and not so much play.

Dennis - seen through a certain lens nearly everything from the mid - late 60's could be seen as being about tripping. The BBC tied themselves in knots trying to work out which ones were promoting drug use, so they could ban them and save the youth of the day. Songs like "I Can Hear The Grass Grow" - was that because he had taken drugs? And "A Whiter Shade of Pale" - was that about drugs too? It must have seemed like the whole world had gone mad if you were over 30 at that time. And to be sure, it nearly had.

Got both shows loaded onto a music player.
The music player just functions as a data reader and sends the 1’s and 0’s to a DAC Magic 200M which converts to analog. The DAC has 3 different digital rolloff filters, each of which has different effects on what you hear. Usually one setting sounds better than the other two, so you have to go through them to find the best setting.
