Joined:6-15-76Getting it in on the anniversary.
.
Missed 6-14 yesterday, but I listen to that a lot due to it being one of my top 3 ‘76 shows, the other two being 6-29 and 10-9.
.
Have 6-14 and 10-9 on vinyl, so that’s an extra bonus.
.
Need 6-29 Dave.
Hopefully that comes this year in the June 76 TOO Box.

Hoo-Hoo >> Where are We?
All the discussion around the shows leading up to these this week made me grab it - It's amazing that it came out (in this form) a full 25 years ago (!)
Anyway, the sound quality on it is so spectacular, and most all of the playing is as well ... Disc 3, in particular, the majority of 4.28 (edit: Set 3), takes me back 40 years, as it was one of the first good quality cassettes I ever heard ... and then came to have shortly afterwards.
Peace
Can I pass the Scranton Test?
Let's find out
Tuscaloosa 5.17.77
As I did not get to it earlier this week, I thought I'd go ... Anniversarial 😊

I would post your Tiger Rose comments again. I think the take down was unintentional and not targeted at you. I remember that there was a wordy spam/bot post from a newly minted account right about then and it got taken down when I checked back in. My guess is that the ptb that police that sort of stuff inadvertently took down yours also. Been awhile but I've had it happen to me and if I remember correctly several of us lost posts once because they were sandwiched between 2 spam posts.
Not listening to anything at the "moment" - focusing on pizza and some cold beer after hot day in the field. The music will flow shortly. I could easily go Tuscaloosa but don't have it at hand. Edit - so its 5/26/77 Baltimore DaP 41 - its got a Jack-A-Roe and the whole release sounds amazing (as we all know).
Keep on enjoying the weekend everybody.
Re Scranton
Got thru Hard to Handle
Went to disc three of 4/24/72

Will return to Scranton shortly
Scranton
Disc one good

Absolutely 💯
After years of hearing them glancingly referred to...
I decided to listen to the Stranglers. Maybe the creepyass name kept me away
Anyway, apparently were huge in the UK but NEVER heard in the US
so a few tunes in and yeah, they sound rather unique.
Any UK input on the Stranglers?
3/27&
28/94
The Stranglers
I remember them well, although I never saw them. They were included in with the punk bands that made records starting in 1977. Musically, they were a bit different from other British punk bands as they had someone on organ and later synthesizer. More influenced by The Doors than Iggy and The Stooges. I also like the twangy guitar, which sounded a bit Ernio Morricone or surf like at times.
The biggest downside was that they wrote some of the most sexist and sexually violent lyrics it has ever been my misfortune to hear. They seemed to celebrate thuggishness.

best info I could find
was INSIDE THE VAULT
on the GOGD Deadcast
season 4 bonus 2
with DL2 touching on the end of 1970
and what I was really interested in exploring, the 1971 recordings,
he says: "but one of Rex’s new jobs on the crew in January ‘71 and onward was recording. I’ve always looked at them as Rex and Betty recordings.
That goes really through all of 1971. By the fall tour though, it’s only Rex doing the recordings: all of that early Keith stuff in October and November, I don’t even know if Betty was on the road then.
Those were Rex recordings with… I don’t want to say Betty’s training,
I wasn’t there and don’t know how it went down.
But certainly, her sonic fingerprints are on those recordings."
And so I wonder if the recordings of
4/10 Lancaster, PA
4/12 Pittsburgh, PA
4/13 Scranton, PA
4/14 Lewisburg, PA
4/15 Meadville, PA
are perhaps FOH PA recordings

Or was it dosed.

Wait, isn't this discussion over on Box Set?
Dave's 2023 bonus disc
I was a bit perplexed when this first dropped as a bonus disc. However, after repeated spins i've come to understand it's value!

as "Bob and Betty were recording the Dead's shows for another live album"

So in the meantime let’s clean up the dozen or so leftover scraps from 1982, starting at the beginning with 2/16&17/82 at the fabulous Warfield!

Actually this is where I belong....
.... for once.
Since I'm usually asking a question in an odd group. But just got done watching/listening to this.
This brings tears to my eyes everytime.
utube search Jim James and Tom Morello doing The Ghost of Tom Joad. Did this at a springsteen tribute show a few years back. These two just rip the living shit out of this song.
If you never saw this, check it out.
TTB Tonight
on nugs, last show of the Beacon Run.
Wanna take ya HIGHER!
Good Sheet Mon!
I like these guys more every time I check em.
Took a break from 54
And now I'm on 5/25/77, maybe follow it up with May 26 and 28, 1977 ?
:)
Changed everything
10/14/83 Hartford. 1st show, and only 2nd concert ever attended (first, Fleetwood Mac, Centrum, '82). Became DP6 as you know.
Pure chance...had 4 Moody Blues tix for Oct 18 just a few days later in Worcester, one of the friends coming had an older brother with an extra ticket to the Dead. Best trade I ever made. Captivated by the circus, enthralled and blown away by the band. Definately one of the most impactful inflection points of the teen years.

Thanks for the tip!
When I read the title I said, "Where's Al Di Meola?"
That one looks good.
One reviewer liked the studio session more than the concert cuts.
Cheers
“Oh, it is Jerry, it is”
I think I agree with that assessment, but the whole album is great!
Think Al’s on there a little? (and Jon Luc).
But I like this album a lot because it’s not all so loud/fusiony, guitar-a-gedon etc
That’s all good when yer in the mood, but this is a nice more acoustic treatment that scratches a different itch, and my goodness, after all these decades Stanley still just blows my mind how he man handles the upright like he’s playing a mando!
Did you see these guys at the Paramount…? 04 maybe, when ever the reunion tour was? Maybe not quite as razor tight as when we saw em in early 80s, but damn impressive non the less!
10/14/83: a top tier “@‘ show! Never felt the recording did it justice, another had to be there! Awesome first show TooMuch…it seemed like everything was just exactly perfect: the babd, the sound, the lights…or maybe it was something I ate? Anywho, nice first show Bro!
Return To Forever
My only show a doozy!
In their prime in 1976 (?).
Little club downtown Denver on 15th St. called Ebbets Field.
Held 238 people.
Damn they were good. Virtuosos all!
Cheers
Also saw Lynyrd Skynyrd there around 1974. Monumental show that I have written about before.
5/13/73
:)))
Dave's 41 - 5/26/77
Is so solid a release, the sound is absolutely amazing, maybe one of the best sounding? I liked it when it first came, but not this much, lol
41 might be better pick than 1?
Dave's 1 does have the Peggy-O, Scarlet>Fire, and great Other One though...
To Terrapin is up next...
Speaking of good sound, someone mentioned Dave's 3 disc 3, which I was not familiar with, I checked it out and I was thoroughly impressed with both the sound and the playing, I had no idea it was gonna be that good, and Keith is so high in the mix its nuts... :)
(I got a digital copy last year from the Kind and Generous Man with all the tunes, but I'm still looking for a physical copy)
12/20/69 Fillmore Auditorium
Dark Star > St. Stephen > The Eleven > New Speedway Boogie (back half of DaP 6 Disc 2).
First New Speedway. DaP 6 plus bonus is a jewel of a release in the Dave's series.
12/31/81
A new years show that would be a welcome release
I haven't heard it in quite a while
A few tracks into Joan Baez set
Galactic with Irma
Been enjoying this one so much lately I just have to give y'all a heads up: Galactic's recent album, Audience with the Queen, featuring Irma Thomas, is the real shit.
Since their original vocalist Theryl de Clouet left the band, Galactic's records have often featured guest vocalists (people like Macy Gray, Mavis Staples, Big Freedia, various hip hop guys), and the style tends to vary depending on who they're backing up. With this record, it's Irma Thomas, "the soul queen of New Orleans," start to finish and it's classic Nawlins R&B throughout.
Just outstanding. I've been playing it over and over.
