8/28/82 Oregon County Fair?
I don't think I've ever really listened to this one, I may have picked through it, I don't know. I do know I like this Althea, as I like most Altheas, except for maybe the one on 55, Ha!

Otherwise I've been putting 9/15/72 through its paces, and I did a one time through the new Jerry, which is really quite nice, very solid release.

I always wanna listen to EVERY damn thing at the same time...

damn this IS a solid Althea... :)

Live At The Oval 1971

Almost 9 minute "Baby Don't You Do It"

New Release from 8 track reels!

CD's levels are a bit high mix isn't too bad!

Did anyone grab the Vinyl and how does it sound?

Which lead me to the album that starts with my favorite train song.

Tony Rice Manzanita.

Old Train, I can hear your whistle blow
And I want to be jumping on again
Old Train, I've been everywhere you go
And I know what lies beyond each bend

Old Train, each time you pass
You're older than the last
And it seems I'm too old for running
I hear your rusty wheels grate against the rails
They cry with every mile
And I think I'll stay awhile

He's great with Garcia on the Pizza Tapes, too. A masterful bluegrass guitarist, one of the best.

What I found most interesting about the Devo doc. was how the were a reaction to the times and a portent of what was follow 40 years later, I didn’t realize the influence of H.G. Wells’ Island of lost souls and the other movie mentioned in the doc. it is a great documentary

Morning, rockers!!!

Right now? Second set of December 1, 1971. Because why not.........

Well played, well recorded, well loved. Underrated and rarely spoken of. Pigpen is back, December 71 was a great month for the band, and this kicks it off in fine fashion. Always always worth a listen........

And yes my friends, I am still here, lurking, while life pulls me in ten different directions at once...........

The good life is one inspired by love and guided by knowledge......

Rock on, ride safe, find the joy!!!

I was having a look at what shows I'd got from August this morning, and came across this one, which I haven't played for yonks. 3 sets are sampled, and I listened to what I have always thought of as the highlight, first. The Other One-Uncle-Other One jam from 8/6/71. Works like a charm - great !
Then I went back to the first cd and listened to 8/7/71. Much, much better than I remembered it. A very sturdy show indeed, with Phil high in the mix and Jerry getting a great tone and rocking the joint on either a strat or a Les Paul Junior. In the photos in the booklet, he is shown playing both, but I don't know which one he is playing on 8/7 - I'd like to think it was the Les Paul.

King gizzard

Rats nest album

Excellent workout music

Is that album a parody, tribute, for real, an experiment...whatever it is, I dig it.

PERI, PERIHELION!!!

Disc 5, Philly Spectrum, Dylan and the Band, first couple of shows they seem to working out the dynamics, by this show it coalesces into what I love about both.

I’ve just taken up a three month free trial of Apple Music. So I’m looking through the available albums and I noticed ‘Last Live 2001 - In Memoriam Derek Bailey and Tony Oxley’ by Joseph Holbrooke, I’m on to the second track as I write this. Some wonderful free improvisations so far. I thought I had all the released music by this trio (Bailey, Oxley and Gavin Bryars). As the title suggests it was recorded live in Antwerp and was their last live concert. So, one day in and the free trial has already cost me £19.99 because I’ve ordered the cd! How much more by the end of November? I recommend it to those with adventurous ears.
Yesterday’s discovery was a Chicago group Natural Information Society who I had never heard of, before seeing them mentioned in the new, 500th, issue of The Wire magazine. They also sound well worth checking out.

Great set by Soft Machine at the Pizza Express in London last night. A celebration of original member Mike Ratledge's music. I made a bit of a gaff not booking for tonight too, when they return to their more usual repertoire. Still, they are back again in November.

Johnny Winter was amazing. The Progressive Blue Experiment ( which isn't progressive at all) is a good one - and the 2nd one. My copy of that includes a wild show at The Royal Albert Hall from 1970.
As well as his own albums he also made 3 good ones with Muddy Waters - Hard Again is really good. In fact it was listening to that one that got me into Mud.

An early show in my collection too.

Jerry Garcia Band, January 27, 1976
This appears to be Keith and Donna's first JGB show, it's really just lovely, especially considering he had a different lineup only like two weeks before.

I have it on the google drive if anyone has trouble finding it.

    Morning, rockers!!!!

Today's commute: The Who, Amsterdam September 29 1969

Now that is some serious rock and roll, crunchy with a capital C!!! Post-Woodstock, pre-Leeds, Tommy ascending, Who's on top!!! All the hits (and misses), Tommy, the wonderfully bombastic grand finale! Daltry struts his stuff, Moon's loony drumming, Entwistle drills a hole in your brain, Townsend our guitar hero, the maestro, the conductor, leading us to salvation through rock and roll.............

Needless to say we were and even now remain huge Who fans, everything up to and including Quadrophenia was a big component of the soundtrack to our teen and young adult years..........

Right behind you, I see the millions
On you, I see the glory
    From you, I get opinions
From you, I get the story..............

And now we return to our regularly scheduled 1969 Grateful Dead, which shall play softly in the background while I work on autopsy reports.........

    Rock on,

    Doc
His eyes are the eyes that
    Transmit all they know
Sparkle warm crystalline glances to show
    That he is your leader
    And he is your guide
On the amazing journey together you'll ride

PT - yes, it was called "Children of Nuggets" and it focussed on bands from the mid 70's-mid 90's, but who played in the style of the original Nuggets bands. Bands like The Fuzztones, I think. I never bought this one.
The flood gates opened for 60's punk/psych/freakbeat compilations in the wake of Nuggets. Pebbles was the first I think, followed by Boulders and Mindrocker.
Not wishing to be outdone, the UK responded with the bootleg Chocolate Soup For Diabetics and Perfumed Garden, culminating with the...deep breath.....20 volume Rubbles series. Much of these U.K. comps have been superseded by more recent box sets with much better sound on the Grapefruit label.
There was also a 4cd box set called Nuggets 2, which featured bands from "The British Empire and Beyond" which featured mid 60's tracks.

I still remember the first time I heard their music, it was in the 60's, which exact year it was, I don't recall, I don't remember, but I do remember I was watching a show on tv, black and white, then I went away for a while, was out in the kitchen, all of a sudden this awesome sound came out of the tv, I was struck by the short, pushing rock that was being produced by these long haired hippy type dudes. Pushing to hard was the song, and they had me. Great band, gone to soon. Nuggets was a great compilation of underground rock from the mid to late sixties. If I remember right, wasn't there a "son of Nuggets" released? More great, short rock and roll radio ready tunes.

Not the whole show but what’s here is tight. Nice 71 Billy drum solo.

Also have 4/12/70 out and ready for later.

I had 4/11/69 in my tape deck yesterday and it sounds great for a 20 year old tape of a 57 year old show. Really good separation and Phil and Jerry are clear. I’m going back into these early 69 tours for a while, lots of good stuff there.

    Cheers
