Moving Forward to peace as a whole
Hello future: I am looking to spread the positive vibrations we all are capable of to everyone and everything. It is hard to put in words, maybe you should look into my group called Moving Forward. I am networking with alike minds to start a revolution of change in our world. It is all about thinking positive, doing positive, and spreading the positive. If there's nothing but good vibes going around, the greed and instinct will be beaten down and move on to feed elsewhere. I have a lot of methods of practice, my main goal is to show and spread it through music. The wall I must knock down is the discrimination fellow music lovers have against each other. It is amazing how someone can pass judgement on what kind of sound waves your body enjoys. This goes along with all the hate and greed in our world. Lack of communication is a main reason behind all of this. I am not the best with my words, but the idea is that once everyone sees they did not generate this hate against their own kind, they will notice it everywhere. Once it's exposed we can spread our peace and make the world beating only positive vibrations, moving us forward. Thanks for your time to hear me. Hi Marye; Sam Cutler, former tour manager for the Grateful Dead and The Rolling Stones, has just had his wonderful book released in North America, and he is doing a book tour right now. I have his itinerary, and would like to post it somewhere appropriate, so that people interested in hearing these amazing stories from someone who was directly involved will have a chance to do that! Sam is a wonderful man, and we are SO fortunate to have people like him still with us to tell these early Grateful Dead stories in their own voice. If you could let me know the best place to post his US schedule I'd be very grateful. Thank you~ Wendy

Hi, I would love to see a forum where i can ask about memorabilia. I have some collectables and i'd like to get people's opinions on what they're worth. (i want to sell them on ebay or something and who better to ask then you all. for example: i've got a 2'x4' poster of a dead album cover signed by mouse and kelley, would love to post pics and get feedback. thanks

no reason we can't have a topic like that, though we kinda have something like it already in Your Own Storefront. Posting pics in the forum is kinda not happening though. Links to pics hosted elsewhere, yeah. How about taking a look and seeing if Storefront does the job for you, and if not, come back and report.

..some 15 yrs. ago RELIX made a special about brothers and sisters in jail.i dont want to judge wheter these people are guilty or not(..but i strongly belief that many of them have fallen prey to smart agents who took the way of making traps for DHs,which than served as a latter for their career!)Many of these souls must still be rotting in the hell of the US justice system.would it not be possible to make a topic where the adresses of these poor souls are published(..with their complete agreement,naturally..) so that these fellows might get some letters, phonecalls, well just everything which would build up their moral while they going through this horror?

I agree that's a good idea. I'm a little concerned about posting people's names and addresses in public spaces on the Internet, though. Let's think this through a bit more and see what we can figure out.

Well it's about time Congressman asks for investigation of Ticketmaster, TicketsNow over Springsteen By George Gombossy on February 3, 2009 2:44 PM | Permalink | Comments (0) PASCRELL SEEKS INVESTIGATION INTO TICKETMASTER BUSINESS PRACTICE WITH SUBSIDIARY, TICKETNOW Press release: WASHINGTON-- U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-08) today requested that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) Antitrust Division investigate Ticketmaster's relationship with its subsidiary company, TicketsNow, following the company's handling of ticket sales for the Bruce Springsteen tour that became available on Monday February 2. Dear Chairman Kovacic: I am writing today to direct your attention to a potential conflict of interest regarding Ticketmaster and its affiliate company, TicketsNow. This issue has been brought to my attention through constituent complaints and press reports regarding the online sale of Bruce Springsteen concerts tickets at the IZOD Center in New Jersey and other locations all across the country. As you know, Ticketmaster is a large ticket sales and distribution company that often serves as a venue's sole ticketing agent. A large percentage of their sales are made online through Ticketmaster.com. In a recent effort expand its business Ticketmaster acquired TicketsNow, a website which specializes in the secondary, resale market for tickets. When tickets for Bruce Springsteen's new tour went on sale exclusively through Ticketmaster at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, February 2, 2009, scores of fans in New Jersey were met with technical difficulty on Ticketmaster.com that impaired them from making a purchase. Thousands of others who were fortunate enough to get beyond the technical problems were informed that the shows were sold out. Conspicuously placed on the same screen that informed fans of ticket unavailability was an alternative purchasing option from TicketsNow.com. It offered the same tickets at a value marked up hundreds of dollars beyond their original face value. I am troubled by how quickly tickets priced exponentially higher became available on the secondary market to thousands of rejected fans, many who also endured unfortunate technical problems on Ticketmaster.com. I am concerned that the business affiliation between Ticketmaster and TicketsNow may represent a conflict of interest that is detrimental to the average fan. There is a significant potential for abuse when one company is able to monopolize the primary market for a product and also directly manipulate, and profit from, the secondary market. Additionally, the speed with which tickets were made available on Ticketmaster's official resale affiliate site raises questions about whether TicketsNow brokers were given preferential treatment instead of competing on a level playing field with average consumers to purchase the tickets. With so many families struggling in this economy, I am outraged by how expensive tickets to ball games, concerts and other shows have become. I understand the economic principles that have driven up the cost of entertainment, but will not tolerate unjust business practices that put regular Americans at a disadvantage. I respectfully request that your office investigate the relationship between Ticketmaster and TicketsNow to ensure that the procedure for purchasing tickets remains fair to the average consumer. If you require any additional information or have any questions, please contact Arthur Mandel on my staff at (202) 225-5751. I look forward to the favor of your reply. Sincerely, Bill Pascrell, Jr. Member of Congress

I know that the Dead shows of 99 and 2003 are not Grateful Dead shows. But I would enjoy having the setlists listed in the show archives. Many of the younger fans might not of been around to see the Grateful dead with Jerry but are dedicated heads who go to many Phil, bobby and Dead shows and might want to comment and share their experiences at those shows. It would be great if you could included those Dead year in the archives and maybe even Ratdog and Phil? I mean it already sucks that we missed the Jerry years, now we can't even participate in the forums, come-on.... Soper

Hi Marye: How about a section about all the behind the scenes people that make this site and all of the GD stuff work so we get to enjoy it.? I know this sounds strange but I really would like to come to San Fran sometime and meet everyone. And I am not a nut ! Just a fairly normal father of four insurance agent-(my wife is a psychologist and she hasn't put me away) that loves the Grateful Dead and all of its fans. Also I have asked this before how about the company put out Scott McDougals artwork out as posters? And the road goes on forever.... BobbaLee

What would be cool would be if 1. There is a "How the Dead.net " works Thread. Like who puts the stuff up on the threads and store etc. 2. Maybe have the persons picture a little bio and something like "Hi I am Mary and when an order for T shirts comes in this is how we take care of it explanation." 3. How active are the Core 4 in the business? And damn it if the Beatles can have all these conventions ( and yes i love them dearly) why not a GD convention and have people talk about them and stuff. Can any one really say that the Beatles and ( i know i am stepping on the third rail here) really were any better than the GD? Come on they played for 30 years!. They didn't run and hide in the studio and act like a bunch of paranoids... don't get me started................ And the road goes on forever.... BobbaLee

Love the forums here but I have a few suggestions. I hang my hat at several difft forums from Fantasy Football to Gambling sites to Grateful Dead etc, etc.... WHy is it that we can't start our own new threads??? I've never seen anything like that at any forum, anywhere. I like the idea of the "Best of" thread but it is 200 posts long and IMO would be best served if you have say a best of "Loser" thread, best "Terrapin" etc, etc... I am a long time Head but I can tell you I don't know shows and dates off the top of my head like some of these cats do. I read through 100 posts in that thread looking for the best Terrapin and haven't come across much yet. Maybe individual threads for each song, or maybe have a thread devoted to what we would like to see as a "Best of" thread... I know Loser and Terrapin would be my first two. That's my .02 on that topic. How bout a Best of 70's shows, Best of 80's etc, etc??? Best of Brent shows??? Maybe an all time Best Show thread....members would post their favorite show which in turn staff would narrow down and maybe a poll of some sort to get the All Time Top 10 shows....see, I'd start these threads but unfortunately I am "not allowed to post new content in forum"...that's mind boggling to me that I can't create a thread on a forum...isn't that what forums are all about? One other thing in regards to the forums...I notice you don't have a "quote" option, where we can't quote another members post and answer it directly. There are two members looking for the best Days Between in that thread, we should be able to quote it and answer it directly rather than just make a post. Let me know if you need any additional help. Thanks, Northbound Train

as on Dead Net Central, is that only moderators can start topics. This is fundamentally a chaos-management decision we made two years ago, and having seen some of the more free-for-all sites have big problems with everything from sheer overwhelming size to invasions of bad actors, we have not, to put it mildly, had cause to regret that decision. As for the variations on the theme of best-of, I'm all for it if they've got enough popular support. Any interest, folks?

Marye: How about a forum on this. Once again the debate is raging about whole shows vs compilations. In the latest Rhino era (since this revamped site was launched). I make the score so far this Total 9 Whole shows: RT2.2 (2/14/68); 3 From the Vault (2/19/71); Winterland Box Set (11/9/73/11/10/73;11/11/73); Cow Palace (12/31/76); To Terrapin (5/28/77); Road Trips Whole Show Download (11/5/79); Road Trips Whole Show Download (11/6/79) Total 7 Compilations: RT1.1 (Fall’79); RT1.2 (Oct 77); RT1.3 (Summer 71); RT1.4 (Oct 78); RT2.1 (Sept 90); RT2.3 (June 74); Rockin’ the Cradle (Sept 78) So its a more or less even balance now, with whole shows slightly favoured (mainly because of the 73 set) So how about a referendum on future policy. Please post your preference from the following list A. Whole shows only B. Mostly whole shows with a few compilations C. About even balance of compilations and whole shows D. Mostly compilations with a few whole shows E. Compilations only If we post our choices A,B,C,D or E in the subject box, then it will be easy to monitor the results. Then we can rant as much as we like in the comment box.

... is NOT in the vault. As I remember it, the guy who did most of the taping was Kidd Candelario, a long -time roadie with the band. If he had other, more important issues, for example helping Billy with a loose drum mount, or something else to do, then the taping took a back seat. Not sure when the band made taping the WHOLE show a priority, but I think it was sometime in the late 80's or the early 90's. That's the way it's been in town...

I'm perfectly willing to start a topic (especially if it would divert the perennial whining on this subject from the new-release topics...) but would, of course, need to state explicitly that while the results might be interesting to many, they are not binding on anyone and I imagine Mr. Norman and crew already have their own ideas on the subject!

one would be hard pressed, if not actually delusional, to define the Grateful Dead as a democracy, at least if one included the Deadheads. (And, in my view, God help the artist who puts his muse up for popular vote instead of using his own judgment.) They're going to do what they want and that's fine. But more information is not a bad thing either. Free market research. Whatever.

.....I am not so 'delusional 'as to think of this place as a democracy.....just trying to have some fun, get a picture of what people really think and provide some feedback. Still, if the view is that 'they will do what they want and that's fine' then there is not much point really is there. I withdraw my suggestion.

but I also think there are those among us who are so innocent that they believe this place is a straight shot to the decision-makers, and it just ain't that way. So my concern is with managing expectations and the inevitable sense of exuberant entitlement that seems to come with the territory of expressing one's views online. The undercurrent of being OWED full shows in pristine release that bursts forth every time a Road Trips is announced is downright weird to me. I cannot say whether the views expressed will wind up having any influence at all; all I can do is tell TPTB the topic exists. Which, in a minute or two, it will.
