30 Days Of Dead - November 16th
+ More Info
You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70's show? Each day we'll post a free download from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? Step right up and try your hand.
Each day, the first person to guess the venue & date correctly will get a Road Trips of their choice. If you’re not first but you've answered correctly, you will also be automatically entered for a weekly prize of THE WARNER BROTHERS STUDIO ALBUMS VINYL BOX (EXCLUSIVE EDITION) or a FORMERLY THE WARLOCKS boxed set. I just wanted to say thanks for 30 days. That was great! :) I just joined here. I love reading all the comments. Oh! and the rest of the sight is pretty great too. Thanks!!
First off thank you to the folks that private messaged me and to Cannon Critter for the links.
I have been a member for a long time however I am not a pro at navigating this site. I am trying to put the 30 days and photos together to make a Christmas gift for my BF.
Any ideas of where I could gain more photos etc?
Thanks in Advance
no Beat in in 76 sooo... what then
I was at the venue that day. I was at the matinee. 7th row, centre, $2. Yup, $2. Student price for a matinee. Sad to say, I'm ineligible to enter. But I recognized the song INSTANTLY because I've had it on CD for some years now. I think this was the evening show.
This was the first time I heard the Grateful Dead, live in Toronto. Their first album _was_ out and on sale but I hadn't heard it. A friend who was also at the show bought the album the next day and brought it over to my place. I thought it was AWESOME and went out and bought it myself.

All of the downloads so far are linked from here:
By one of the, oh, three or four people over there who know what they're talking about. It was met with extreme disbelief by some of the clueless masses.
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO it's a Grateful Dead song! They've played it forever!"
These same people debated Hunter writing the lyrics Box of Rain. "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Phil wrote it about his dad, after his dad died!"
I recommend setting your comments per page to at least 50 - the always-welcomed download links comments from Canyon Critter are getting longer!
It will be Cold Rain and Snow. It wasn't played in 68, or in 75, a year doesn't really count in Dead years, but it was played in every other year. We are already saw a Rider (not played in 76 or 78 off the time of my head) and the other possiblities, BIODTL and MM Uncle are copyrighted by others I am sure.
what you don't wanna know ;)
This kind of learnin' is fun, though, so bring it on!
@Robert87123 - the post before yours (from Canyon Critter) has links to all the downloads :)
... I was assuming the same thing, but John's post made it sound like he got all three Cal Expo discs as his prize....
It's an obsession but it's pleasin.'
my subconscious knew before I knew. Too bad there's not more communication between the two. I think it's a language barrier. Oh, well. maybe next time.
Had to write that over, it was bothering me.
...will post a ridiculous guess immediately after a post that says "that is a ridiculous guess".
"consistently" is a vague enough term that gaps in years may not matter. And cover songs like Baby Blue and Dancin' probably aren't gonna get posted anyway, since they are covered by copyrights and paying royalties to the copyright holder would be tough considering they are giving these songs away free of charge.
I'm thinking that it's not Dew (since it doesn't appear on a '66 setlist) even though there may be a version in the vault somewhere. I'm guessing Rider or Cold Rain, but there are others that meet the specs.
@TheNuthatch: from reading the notes on the Store pages for the Road Trips series, none of the bonus discs are available anymore.
But it's a great distraction.

Obviously not the 1st to guess the show. LOL!
Cant believe I fell asleep last night & forgot to submit the show, I even had it queued up to compare!.
I remember that year I moved from L.I., NY to No.Wstrn., CT. I missed all the shows in that year & was not happy when I heard the tapes! I had a pretty good streak going til then.
I know a few shows I still need to update on my profile. Just need to put the dates & places together. One in Utica NY I cant seem to find. I remember we had a BLIZZARD & was stranded, The cafe/diner was open all night across the street, we ended up getting some low cost munchies & got to go back in the center & slept on the chairs & floors til morning. The next morning I ended up having a DEAD battery beyond recharge & the local mechanic gave me a used one, as we had about enough cash to get home on the NY State Thruway! Had to be late 70's early 80's.
Anyone remember that show?
Jen: check this link out: it has everything that is current, thru Potato.
I was wondering if there is a way to download some of the songs from prior November dates? Actually, the one that I really want is "Playing in the Band" from either the 4th or 5th.
If not, that's cool! This has been such a nice thing and a pleasant reminder of my younger days.
....songs that were played consistently from 66-95. Dancin was out of the repertoire from about 70-76. And Baby Blue wasnt played much at all in the 70's. I dont see any versions of Dew from 66, but that doesnt mean the vault doesn't have one. Rider would be a possibility if we hadnt gotten one last week.
As for the FB comments--Oh my God!--Who are those people?
...would be nice, but I think 30 days of the contest is enough - this is hard work! ;)
Here's the links from the Downloads so far. Hope this helps everyone out that didn't get the shows. Love is Real♥....

Thank Jerry, Bobby, Phil, Billy, Mickey, Pig, Brent, Bruce, Donna, Keith, Vince, Tom, Mr. Graham, Mr. Lemieux, and Marye. Not to mention the kind souls like Rex, RamRod, etc. etc. etc. etc.
But your welcome my kind brothers and sisters.
I heartily concur with an earlier comment about making the Dead fun again.--Not that they weren't fun, but it is nice to get reacquainted with my collection of Dead shows. Searching for the daily picks has been both enjoyable for its own sake and for the joy of rediscovery of shows I haven't listened to in a long time. Thanks to all involved.
We're half way home. Can't we just do this every day of the year?
I know it, I'm lame!!! I didn't realize how to enter. I haven't been on dead.net in a while and haven't been participating in these trivia questions. No mistakes from now on!!! Sorry to be the spoiler. I figured it out though, and maybe, just maybe, I'm still the first person to answer correctly since it's the right answer! ;)
You can revoke my dead.net account if you think it's an appropriate punishment for my lack of reading skills and lameness!
......And there were days I know when all we ever wanted was to learn and love and grow.
... do you know if the Bonus discs are available for all the Road Trips for the winners?
Thanks and Peace.
This is awesome! A new Dead song everyday! The game is fun too! But it seems like you gotta be quick to win soooo good luck all!!! ~PEACE~
I wanted to address what seems to be some point of confusion, I see many references to potential issues pertaining to not freely giving us copyrighted cover tunes, but in the same breath hoping Morning Dew will be the next track, can't have it both ways kids! Here, see for yourself...
Whatever tune they grace us with will bring smiles to the faces of many, who otherwise might not have such a miracle in mid Nov.
Eternally indebted to Jehovah's favorite choir and the members of THE band for all of their contributions, musically as well as being the messengers of lessons of this life & furthur beyond. I am and will always be forever grateful! Thank You All for being part of this strangely beautiful psychedelic masterpiece, a mere glimpse of whats to come ; ) Still lookin' for that Cryptical! I know she's a comin, comin, comin a-round sooner than later!
New Potato Caboose
Then I opted for The Avalon. Oh well. Having fun. Thanks for the music!
How do I actually download the song?
I was just looking thru some old tapes and I have a copy of the airplane's gig that day, and it also has the new potato and viola from the dead's set from that nite, it doesn't compare to the sound quality of this one, interesting what got recorded back in those days, a couple dead songs used as filler on the end of a tape. Bty the airplane sounded good that day too.
Looked at the day's song clue. My guess is Cold Rain and Snow. I also think we might get something from the 90's today.
Man, the suspense is killing me!
It would be cool if they gave us some stats about the correct answers, such as: how long it took, how many folks got it right, etc.
we get something from 70's today :)
Yeah, out of the 18 Potatoes only 1 fit the timing of the song at 6:50. The rest of them are 8 to 14 minutes. I guessed this one at 11:51 est. I listened after I had my guess in and was correct. Even at 11:51 I probably still wasn't even in the top 10 or 20.
my download of the estimated was only 37 seconds.
is there a way to get the whole version?
Many thanks to the folks at dead.net for putting this contest together! Very fun/challenging for someone who never got to see a live Dead show.
This is obviously one of the earlier versions. Short, no Mickey, stand-alone, no Cryptical or Born Cross-Eyed segues. I love the solo by Jerry that finishes this one!

Today's Song: New Potato Caboose - Download
missed new minglewood the other day anyone have a link? thanks
Thanks again for the free music. This early version sounds great!
I am hoping for a version of Throwing Stones soon.
scroll up to the earlier posts where several folks have listed links, especially Canyon Critter and 3Phase.
