We're on a mission to make a miracle every day. As a token of our appreciation for making 2010 an epic year, we're giving away a high-quality 320Kbps download every day this November. That's 30 days of Dead! Intrigued? We're also going to put your knowledge to the test and give you the chance to win some great music from the Dead.
                                                     + More Info
You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70's show? Each day we'll post a free download from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? Step right up and try your hand.

Each day, the first person to guess the venue & date correctly will get a Road Trips of their choice. If you’re not first but you've answered correctly, you will also be automatically entered for a weekly prize of THE WARNER BROTHERS STUDIO ALBUMS VINYL BOX (EXCLUSIVE EDITION) or a FORMERLY THE WARLOCKS boxed set. Log in now and enter to win!
                                                   - Less Info
We haven't selected a daily winner yet. The first person to answer correctly will get to pick a Road Trips of their choice. To get started, login or register using the form above.
We haven't selected a winner for the week of 11/22 yet!

I Knew I Had It!!

No way did I enter in time, but hey, I can be in the weekly prize draw.. Just a couple weeks ago I got a new hard drive and I've been transfering EVERYTHING (only Grateful Dead) from my other full up drive and cds onto it. This has been a fun month getting to sift through my shows and getting some awesome tracks from Dead.net. Thanks a whole lot.

Port Chester it is!

Yeah, that's the show. I'd forgotten that the wah wah SMs continued on into early 1971. Love this period!

Port Chester

What ruled Port Chester Nov '70 out for me -- and those shows are great and have the rowdy crowd-- was that the soundboard availability is limited. I think full soundboards for those great Nov Port Chester shows are something of a Dead Holy Grail. Perhaps Port Chester of the equally legendary February '71 shows are a good candidate. I found the Sugar Mags from those nights to be slower, but maybe I missed something.

Probably wrong

I am probably wrong, there is a show from 11/7/1970 (possibly mislabeled) in NY with similar banter at the end of the previous track. After listening to the songs side by side, I now think it was just another fired up crowd at a great show. Archive has this banter on 1 source, the other sources have it chopped up. 1 source for the date has a completely different set. And none of the shows on Archive match the 2 shows listed on that date from setlist.com. It seems they all are the same show, but songs have been chopped out. They all agree Port Chester, NY.
Confused, just listen to the music play.

If you get one right

During the week you get entered into the "drawing" the more you get the more "entries" you get I think.

It sounds like a set opener to me. One drummer, no Donna wailing, Jerry working the wah-wah pedal...all place this in the 71-early 72 range. I went with 4/27/71 from Fillmore East. Hope I get it right one of these days!!!
