30 Days Of Dead - November 21st

We're on a mission to make a miracle every day. As a token of our appreciation for making 2010 an epic year, we're giving away a high-quality 320Kbps download every day this November. That's 30 days of Dead! Intrigued? We're also going to put your knowledge to the test and give you the chance to win some great music from the Dead.
                                                     + More Info
You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70's show? Each day we'll post a free download from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? Step right up and try your hand.

Each day, the first person to guess the venue & date correctly will get a Road Trips of their choice. If you’re not first but you've answered correctly, you will also be automatically entered for a weekly prize of THE WARNER BROTHERS STUDIO ALBUMS VINYL BOX (EXCLUSIVE EDITION) or a FORMERLY THE WARLOCKS boxed set. Log in now and enter to win!
                                                   - Less Info
We haven't selected a daily winner yet. The first person to answer correctly will get to pick a Road Trips of their choice. To get started, login or register using the form above.

Not the Facebook clue...

...since there isn't one up yet (2 AM ET). Therefore I will make one up.

"This second set combination of an extended percussion duet followed by transcendental electronic weirdness was an eagerly awaited part of a Grateful Dead concert - especially by that fat broad Helena"

Um, wait, I know this one. Got it narrowed down to...1265 possibilities. LMAO hope I can get in 300 hours of listening before noon ;)

just because I said it's not post-86...

...doesn't mean I think it is '86...tehe...
In fact, I too think this one is from the final night at the little theatre right in Kesey's backyard just one show prior to the conquering of a certain mountain little town, which Phil roadtripped to according to a passage from his book, 'Searching for the Sound'. Good job Phil...lord I hope I'm not wrong...tehe...

West coast. Listening to an audience recording of it now...

...synched to the download. most definitely the same performance, including the same "brb" at the end. Lots are guessing a few years too late.

I think it has a distinct 1985 sound.
And I wonder what I mean by that! Must be confused, go listen to the music play...

that would be so nice if they did put up a drums>space, my favorite part of the dead's performances, I mean, they made it up right there as they went along, how much better can it get than that. of course, pickin the right show would be a monumental task.

A nice Corinna would be good given the surfeit of Bobby tunes - one more couldn't hurt.

I was wrong (not the first time)

Oh well, I was sure it was 4-4-88 at Hartford, and in too much of a hurry to make a guess to listen closely. It's Bob's set break announcement after both versions, but says something different

Saying the transition is ">"

Saying the transition is ">" is generous. It's definitely ";". Not a lot of shows to look at for this. Has that 80s tape sound.

I know it

I got it!!! yippeee. let's just hope it counts now I'm worried because it logged me off when I put in my guess. I hope I hope. I think I should do it again just to be sure. Please,, let it count if I was first.... the website logged me off as I put in my answer, even though it let me have the guess. This show was a near miss for me, I was at college, enough said.... don't want to spoil everyone's fun!

not pushing my luck

The way the website has been, who knows if my guess got entered or if I was first anyways.. The best part is all the fun of trying to guess and search my Deadbase and my collection and the archive. After all, the wife and kids are out at the moment, and if they were home, I'd be getting told to get off the computer and get busy DO SOMETHING!!! GET YOUR HANDS OUT OF YOUR POCKETS!!!! HA!! Tons of fun right here.
