30 Days Of Dead - November 26th
+ More Info
You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70's show? Each day we'll post a free download from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? Step right up and try your hand.
Each day, the first person to guess the venue & date correctly will get a Road Trips of their choice. If you’re not first but you've answered correctly, you will also be automatically entered for a weekly prize of THE WARNER BROTHERS STUDIO ALBUMS VINYL BOX (EXCLUSIVE EDITION) or a FORMERLY THE WARLOCKS boxed set. Hey I am with you, I was thinkin the other day how much I would appreciate a Scarlet>Fire.... I'm hopin for a 50th Bday present on Monday!! MIght as Well start out my new decade the elegant way!
I listen to the Shakedown, find out the date, check my list of tapes and discover that I do not have this show. So I go on archive and find a fantastic recording of a very hot show. It's been like this all month long and I'm on Dead overload! Thank you for highlighting so much early 80's material.
Took several tries but I finally got the whole 13:20. At least I got to hear the stream right off the bat - enough to make a guess and to get my day going on the right foot. Nothing like a strong cup of coffee and bopping Shakedown to get the blood going...
wont load only getting about 1:34
Thank you for this very cool gift
Good call on the > Lost Sailor. Narrows it down greatly.
30.5 mb in 3:36 at 1:05 pst with 186 deadheads online. Now settle back with a spleef and shuffle on down Shakedown Street.
I'm going with Mason's today. And then to round it off, howse about Scarlet/Fire, Terrapin, and Eyes!? What a great month.
in my home town - I think - early '80s, Philadelphia
To bad you're having problems with the powers that be - if nothing else, take solace in your vocabulary. Killer post.
to a true brother that takes his time to make shure none of the famly miss any of the downloads i love all the post and eye candy ps loved the video . sincerly puffin one for you
Remember, Canyon Critter and 3phase both post links to all the songs so far, and they are also all available here:
Hope everyone had a Grateful Turkey Day!
That was a great show. The song lists are some of my favorites, especially Jerry's.
you can even hear what song they are going into. That might be a way for many to narrow it down granted you have the right time frame pinpointed. Good luck everyone! Is this Thanksgiving or what?
Love these versions! The vast majority of the time it was a set opener. If it's followed by "-> Lost Sailor" that tells us likely 2nd set. This particular Shakedown features some feisty back and forth between Jerry and Brent.
4-6-82 Philly fits the bill. We shall see! (doubt I'm the first today, but what's new? ;)
This rendition of "Shakedown Street" (31,273KB, 13:20 duration) is a fitting selection, given recent events. This is a stone-cold classic show from an erstwhile venue that saw many legendary events. I will miss it.
Thanks to Scott/3Phase for the dropbox. Celebrating Thanksgiving took precedence over computer access. "Esau" from Spring '84 is prime vintage material. Thank you, Scott, for making yesterday's download available.
I echo cbs73's comments from yesterday about the difficulty of reaching those who award and send out the daily prizes. My experience has been like Chinese algebra: confusing, hydra-headed anfractuosity; conflicting e-mails; no follow-through, accountability, or resolution. Unfortunately, this is not the first time since the outsourcing from San Rafael to Burbank and from Charlottesville to Bangalore that I've had difficulties. I've given up all hope of ever receiving my Road Trips prize. Too bad this interesting and occasionally inspiring contest has been spoiled by nonfeasance.
Best to all,
...since TLMD didn't get released when it was first recorded, and So Many Roads isn't really a "studio album", but the clue didn't say "Grateful Dead studio album". Would make more sense I guess since the "Garcia" version of "Mason's" is just Jerry and Billy, and that first studio "Mason's" wasn't a complete recording. There's a buttload of songs I'd rather see than either of them, honestly, but I guess that's just incentive to buy other shows whenever das RhinoFuhrer blesses us with a release.
26 days of dead. it is almost over :( thanks for making november such a great month. never let the music stop!
Inspiration, move me brightly.....
So happy, I'm loving it and figured out the show with my Deadbase, the tuning at the start, the lead-in to Lost Sailor and a couple friendly clues from y'all. Shakedown Street the album was what really got me started as a deadhead, before I went to any shows or started tape trading. I got more and more interested each time I met deadheads and listened to thier tapes. When I heard Europe '72 at a party and we were all dancing around these folks living room I knew I had to hop on the bus. We have really gotten some special gems this month, Thank You.
I figured they meant that the song never appeared on a GD studio album, although it was recorded by the Dead in 1970(per the So Many Roads set)...We'll see. I'd much rather a TLMD than a Mason's Children...
This one is totally borked. Is it even worth the trouble? I mean, Shakedown Street is definitely not a gem among gems...
30.5 and 13.21 1st time. I've obviously been lucky but have managed all tracks so far 1st time, maybe something to do with time difference.
What a great month and still 4 days to go!!!
Thanks to all for these great freebies!!!
I'm out, but for all who have tech problems with the DLs;
"To each his reach
And if I don't cop, it ain't mine to have
But I'll be reachin' for ya
'Cause I love ya, CC.
I can only get a little over 5 min of it.
A propos of this buildings recent demise. A classic! Thanks Dead.net!
On 3rd try,
I got 30.5mb,
Enjoy the Free Music my Brothers & Sisters!!!!!
And I forgot to add: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! This is such a treat. Even when the song, or the era, isn't my favorite, this is soooo sweet. And I have a feeling that I will revisit some things that I would otherwise not hear very often - a lot.
I got the whole file at 31,273 KB / 13:20.
Took about 5 tries to get thru.
Man.....I had to fight with it today but thank you lord...Shakedown Street is "in the can"....
Hope all had a Grateful Turkey Day......
"...sometimes we live no particular way....but our own....."
I got 30.5 and 13:20. thanks.
Wow! During this whole time of d/ls, I have only had one glitch; rest of the time they d/l'd without a hitch the first time. Again THANKS DEAD.NET.
"Sometimes the lights all shinin' on me...."
File size for today 30.5 mgb.
Well, I don't know if I'm just doing a pigeon dance in a Skinner box, but after a medley of partial and zero bite downloads here's how I finally managed to get a full download of 30.5mb and 13min 21sec. First I cleared my browser history and deleted the partial downloads from my downloaded files folder. Then to be on the safe side instead of opening up Safari (default mac internet browser) like I usually do I tried using Firefox instead. When I tried to download from the first page I still got 0 bytes, but then when I tried the link from one of the later pages of comments I got the full file.
By the way, as the days of November are coming to a close, I'd like to propose a little game. I've seen some people posting songs they'd like to hear or hope to hear in the remaining days, but that's usually as far as the predicting goes. I think it would be fun to throw down blind guesses, pre-facebook clue of predictions of song, venue, and date.
Now as far as tomorrow goes I'm stumped, but in the spirit of random guessing I'm going with The Golden Road, Winterland, 3/18/67; however, I'm calling it for the last day. I'm betting all the marbles that on the 30th we're going to hear Jerry sing "last muddy river" at Soldier Field on 7/9/95.
Shakedown segued into Lost Sailor just four times between December 1981 and September 1982.... Not so difficult to work out which one this is.
I got the whole file, me too, after 4 or 5 tries.
Thanks again for all this free downloads.
As in line with Sometime's comment... I too would be disappointed as that the last d/l would not be Muddy River at SField.. being -last song- last day...
Thanks for all the great music so far.
And thanks for all the great artwork and hints from everybody else out there.
It's gotta be 79. You can still hear donna in the background and shakedown didnt even come out until 78, and it does sound pretty 80s, but donna wasnt around then.
I think its just a matter of timing. Now to listen...
Only 4 days left. Thanks for all. It´s been fun. I´d like to hear a good GOIN DOWN THE ROAD and STELLA BLUE
In the end it´s just a song,
comes crying like the wind
Shakedown street, on black friday. I should've picked up on
that. For those who say they hear Donna, listen again. That's
Brent for sure. I say early to mid 80's. Always a lot of fun to
try and guess. Thanks again for all the great music.
NICE SHAKEDOWN !
This is great...
I hoping we get a little Bird Song before the 30 Days is over, or maybe that is being greedy. Just be thankful (or should I say grateful)...
