30 Days Of Dead - November 3rd
+ More Info
You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70's show? Each day we'll post a free download from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? Step right up and try your hand.
Each day, the first person to guess the venue & date correctly will get a Road Trips of their choice. If you’re not first but you've answered correctly, you will also be automatically entered for a weekly prize of THE WARNER BROTHERS STUDIO ALBUMS VINYL BOX (EXCLUSIVE EDITION) or a FORMERLY THE WARLOCKS boxed set. how can I get the Nov 1 & 2 downloads?????
I think it is from early 1981. I went with Uptown theater in Chi town
I just reloaded Speedway from Monday.. Thanks Ron!
I missed yesteday's Dark Star - Is there a way to still download that? Or are they only available for one day?
Thanks Chastason, perfect album cover for my iTunes library.
Is there anyone who hasn't memorized every single guitar lick, vocal nuance, keyboard rill, drum beat, and bass thud of each of the 272 Altheas the Grateful Dead performed between 79 and 95? Sheesh.
Seriously, that is what makes this so fun. I got the first one right, was wrong yesterday, but think I was right - and first - today (but thought I might be first on Monday too, and wasn't).
Have a great November fellow Deadheads.
I can't pick venue its Blank, anyone else have that trouble? Deadicated/yetay
There is big time clipping on that file. It came into digital too hot. They should redo and replace the file. And thank you for this marvelous content/promotion!
I tried the link suggested by ronmarley1 with no success - anyone else have a suggestion?
I too would love the first two days .. e-mail may be to big buy a You-Send it file could help out 100 people, assuming of course we are allowed to share them. My e-mail is"
rickseng0118 AT yahoo (thats a zero after the g)
I guessed 3/28/81 .. not really sure that it but just remember listing to that tape over and over back when I first got it, wow, a little shy of 23 years ago.
Good luck every one :)
YUP!! 3/14/81... I think thats it!!
Thanks for the cover art. I like the one you like the best also.
chastason posted a nice one also.
Hartford, CT - March 14, 1981
Listened to the download here and the Althea from this show and they are surely one in the same. (^_^)
sweet 14March is my birthday, thanks for the Althea!
I'll say Anchorage 6/20/1980. West High Aud., sounds like an early 80's Jerry.
hope the wanted the first concert it was debutted at. unless my memory fails me i was there it was in 79
I have been out of town and missed out on the New Speedway Boogie and Dark Star downloads. How can I get these? Need a miracle!
I guessed 5-21-82.
it's has to be early,80 or 81.right?
I agree with early 80's. Jerry's voice sounds old but not too old. That's definitely Brent on keys. And Jerry's not using MIDI on his guitar yet. "Althea" was one of the songs he liked to use MIDI on once he got that technology.
5-1-81 Hampton, VA
Thanks for doing this . . . . I just found it today . . . . . I love it . . . . dancing around my apartment . . . . lots of great memories . . especially of my sister (Quincy) . . . . .
I'm not seeing any link for me to listen to the songs..... tried firefox & safari. Am I missing something here?
seems to finally work for me after days, but have to beat the site into submission half the time...
for me this was a pretty obvious call!!
80 upstate, well known!!
Love this song!
Thanks for putting those other downloads up! Much appreciated. I didn't get a chance to grab Nov.1.
Take note to the tone Brent is using on his Fender Rhodes piano. Def early 80's. Also, Garcia's voice is smoother and not as blown as it usually was after '85. I'm guessing '81-'83.
...use the link below. The files are still in the directory, just not linked on the pages. You will need to change the song name at the end of the link to get specific files. As long as the site admins stay with the same naming format, you should be good to go.
I know I got it shortly after it was posted, but when do they officially announce it? I listened to both in sync and I definitely have it.
I think its 79-81 too. Brent is there, but not so loud as later in the decade. Your right, Jerry sounds young and healthy too. Guitar pitch is distinct. This show has a lot of reverb in the venue. I took a guess, 12-6-79. I was surprisingly close yesterday, one month off. Though I only feel like I can narrow to parts of year. Tough challenge for me but fun. Thanks.
Definitely from 1980 or 1981. Brent is still reserved and had not gotten into the "PigPen from Peanuts" sound yet. I am thinking Summer of 1980 - going with Alaska in June.
in a time -- nationally, personally, existentially, whateverly -- where there's not much to be grateful for. I love hearing Jerry singing backwards down the line at me, for me, to me. Thanks to whoever's idea this series was. You're not getting paid enough. :)
Couldn't get Althea. Apparently these aren't 24hr links. Can anyone post a link or email the file? Appreciate it.
I posted Nov 1 back a page but here it is again.
It's definitely either 79 or 80 and I'm leaning toward late, late '79, Nov or Dec.
This is a great idea, btw!! Everybody loves a free download!
I know I am way late but I been listening to all my shows, that they played Althea, I was able to find my 83 show at the Aladdin, in Vegas. That was so grateful, encore was Touch of Grey.
This is great we all needed this, Thanks for a really good time, dead.net.
DFA/ Grateful Life
DFA= Deadheads For America
sooooo many shows to choose from
I posted Nov 1 back a page but here it is again.
I'm logged in, but I can't find where the dates & venues get displayed, once there's a winner. (I don't see the winners either) Can someone help?
Thanks for shutting down the dl in the middle again.
Somehow I missed Althea. If someone could post the link, I'd appreciate it! Thx
I believe it was played on October 15 1981 in Melkweg, Amsterdam,
Thank you very much for the links, woody1!
For those people who missed the first 2, scroll up, the links work fine.
Could have swore it was Chicago, Soldiers Field 7-8-95
i guessed that same dates about 3 min after they posted it...
What a treat. I do hope these days do get re-posted. I kept getting error messages yesterday for the Dark Star. Oh well, thanks
Thank you for helping obtain the first two songs!!!
