We're on a mission to make a miracle every day. As a token of our appreciation for making 2010 an epic year, we're giving away a high-quality 320Kbps download every day this November. That's 30 days of Dead! Intrigued? We're also going to put your knowledge to the test and give you the chance to win some great music from the Dead.
                                                     + More Info
You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70's show? Each day we'll post a free download from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? Step right up and try your hand.

Each day, the first person to guess the venue & date correctly will get a Road Trips of their choice. If you’re not first but you've answered correctly, you will also be automatically entered for a weekly prize of THE WARNER BROTHERS STUDIO ALBUMS VINYL BOX (EXCLUSIVE EDITION) or a FORMERLY THE WARLOCKS boxed set. Log in now and enter to win!
                                                   - Less Info
We haven't selected a daily winner yet. The first person to answer correctly will get to pick a Road Trips of their choice. To get started, login or register using the form above.
We haven't selected a winner for the week of 11/22 yet!

How to keep a deadhead in suspense.

Wow. Still bogs down to nothing, and times out.

How to keep a deadhead in suspense.

Every day I download whole albums in many different formats, 5 hour podcasts, tones of huge photos from friends and family, large documents, programs, apps and update files.

but one mp3 thats less then 100mb stumps me!

Good thing I'm totally OCD about my Grateful Dead, I won't stop till I Have that Playin'

I managed to get the other stuff and it sounds sweet!!!!

ThanX!

When I downloaded PITB, I only got 5min 37sec of music. I wondered why the song was cut. There must have been a problem. Anyway to get the whole song?

accidental multiple submissions

arkusrymer: a similar thing happened to me. On the first day it was unclear if my submission had gone through, so I tried again. I got a prompt saying I had already submitted. Today, when it was unclear if it went through I submitted again and it went through. So I tried one more time hoping to get the "already submitted" message, but that one went through too. Hopefully the powers that be in Dead-land will realize there are a few issues and forgive us our glitches. You'll notice that some people have posted their messages as many as four times here. I'm glad I'm not the only one having occasional problems. But through it all, this is a blast!

Playing in the Band link in Canyon Critter's comment

Having heard people having issues with getting the full download, I was suspicious that my download of "New Speedway Boogie" was short, it was. Approximately 3 minutes short of what was in the link you posted ( I also check the track on the archive ). I re-downloaded the others just to check though I felt sure I had those correctly. I noticed you weren't sure about "Playing in the Band" and I did come up quite short on that re-download. FYI and thanks for the links.

Some folks trust in reason ....

D-rae: Thank you. I saw earlier posts saying that it must be our home computers's problem and it seems more likely that this web site has many unresolved bugs/issues and/or it's on total overload from having record numbers of vistors.

It was not my intention to merely complain and be negative, but rather to gather a list of problems so that the webmasters might have some data with which to work ...

Otherwise ... Whoooooo Hoooooo!! Can't never have too much Grateful Dead!! Big thanks to the ones who thought of this promotion and got it to see the light of day ... and I'll be here everyday to play and even if I don't win a prize, we're all winning by getting this great vault material ...

It wasn't that I wasn't sure lol

I am sure that that's the download link and the full one. What I was ???? marking was the date (even though I know exactly which one it is) I didn't want to spoil it for those that were trying to guess.

PITB is not from December 1973

Donna was absent for a few shows in late '73, expecting her first child.

She was back in 1974 and in the song I guessed from that summer.

I don't think there were any long PITB's in '72.

The longest one was from Seattle on May 21, 1974 @ 46 minutes !!

Gratitude

Thanks for the comments regarding incomplete files and links for the previous days' songs. I checked my download, was missing part of the file and had to try again, too. Since We Are Everywhere, there may be a lot of us crowding in here together. Sometimes it just might be a bit too crowded and service gets slow for all. Fortunately, we are allowed to re-enter later and download the song when the rush of the crowd has passed. The first couple of hours after the song becomes available must be incredibly busy. Thanks for the great music.

I guessed a show in 74.

I guessed a show in 74. There is one from June and one from July that are pretty close, sound pretty good played with the download, almost like a Matrix mix, the singing even starts and stops at similar times but I am starting to think it is a show from 73. Will have to wait for the results tomorrow.

All signs point to Late 1972

The sound of the recording places it directly between late 1972 and early 1973. Not at all 1974, and not even sounding anything like post March 1973.

My first thought was Feb 73, but Playin's were not this long then. They *were* this long during October through December 72 however. :-)

psyched!!!!!!!

Can't wait to get home to this one! (I've been saying that all week now and probably will for another 26 days or so....: )

Being on the West coast, I get to be tittillated by knowing what song it is and the consensus of what era......Keith's turn at the keys, today, as I was hoping once I knew it was Playin'.

Works out well, because by early evening here, the traffic's better ~ I've gotten each song in full the first time out.

My guess would have been 10/2/72, but I think it is from 5/13/73.

There were 20 min + Playings beginning in Fall 72, btw.

Can we post file size and playing time early on?

Some folks have had multiple incompletes. I'm told today's is 60MB but I got 51MB, 22:17. Is it right?

Hang on. It just ended in mid-song, so it's NOT right. :(

I suppose it's obvious I'm sneaking peeks from work.....

Just two more cents, the Playin' on Dick's 28 from Feb '73 is 20+ minutes long and a very '72-like version. One of my favorites.

Very grateful for everyone involved in providing this promotion. It's a lot of fun, though I'm 0 for 3, maybe today I'll get one right.
