You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70's show? Each day we'll post a free download from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? Step right up and try your hand.
Each day, the first person to guess the venue & date correctly will get a Road Trips of their choice. If you’re not first but you've answered correctly, you will also be automatically entered for a weekly prize of THE WARNER BROTHERS STUDIO ALBUMS VINYL BOX (EXCLUSIVE EDITION) or a FORMERLY THE WARLOCKS boxed set. I think most guessed this one rather quickly. I love me some Pigpen. Clearly a Cryptical tease at the end of it, and it's funny but if you listen to the song there is about 1 minute of banter before they even start Cryptical.
Man is this fun, I'm loving it.

I am googling how to edit with audacity, when I figure out how to chop, I'll google making a song available for download or linking or whatever. So much I don't know, but trying to learn on the fly.
I'm sure there is someone who already has these talents, and can accomplish the task more quickly.
Thanks JC.
My knowledge about editing and whatnot is right there above absolute beginner.
I can sure download though!!
I'll be watching for the link.
Chippin up rocks for the great highway.............................love it
THANK YOU DEAD.NET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Got the whole song on the first try today. Either they fixed the server issues, or I got here early enough for it not to be too crowded. Great version.
I also heard the Cryptical tuning at the end of the clip - that narrows it down to a couple of choices. The quality/sound of the tape also sounds more like an early 1970 recording as opposed to late '69. All in all a great version of Easy Wind - not sure why the Dead dropped this tune while they still had Pig in the band. This is promotion thing fun, great idea, but it would even better if the downloads worked on the first try - I'll like to hold on to all these great tunes!
The boys played here two years before the WHA Jets came to town. 'Course they played at a different venue and Pigpen's sticks were a bit shorter than Bobby Hull's. Keep those great songs and guesses comin.
