30 Days Of Dead - November 7th

We're on a mission to make a miracle every day. As a token of our appreciation for making 2010 an epic year, we're giving away a high-quality 320Kbps download every day this November. That's 30 days of Dead! Intrigued? We're also going to put your knowledge to the test and give you the chance to win some great music from the Dead.
                                                     + More Info
You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70's show? Each day we'll post a free download from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? Step right up and try your hand.

Each day, the first person to guess the venue & date correctly will get a Road Trips of their choice. If you’re not first but you've answered correctly, you will also be automatically entered for a weekly prize of THE WARNER BROTHERS STUDIO ALBUMS VINYL BOX (EXCLUSIVE EDITION) or a FORMERLY THE WARLOCKS boxed set. Log in now and enter to win!

Thanks for the lin to Dark Star, Only one I missed, I am no expert on mid 80's but I would say a very intimate local by the audience participation..pehaps SF?

Thanks so much......

.....for the B version!!!

For those (like me) who only get A from the gamesite proper, Helena Bucket has posted the link to B on comments page 2.

Must be '72 ~ because there's some beeOOtiful organ from Pigpen on it. The "goin' where the wind" bridge is in place, too, so it's post-Tivolis (4/17)......

"B" versions

Thanks for the feedback. Good or Bad I do appreciate it.

I doubt the "B" version is reserved for a future date. The GD has hundreds of tunes in the catalog. No need to repeat titles.

Since the time for posting a guess for this DL has expired, I see no harm in my estimate.

Good Luck To All!!

I can wait

Till tomorrow to see if an easy link is posted for today's "B" - I think this is an awesome promotion... I think its funny how spoiled we have become in the digital age... from the days when a tape deck would pause to change tracks... I am also a little disappointed to see how this culture of entitlement has people demanding more free stuff... for shame! Thanks to for giving me something to look forward to each day this month!

For those who don't like

For those who don't like people posting their guesses, DON'T READ THE POSTS. I know, it's a ridiculous combination of simple and easy. Try it.

A: Thank you Dead Net! B: Thank you Canyon Critter!

Thank you Dead Net and Canyon Critter!

After a couple of hours and ten or fifteen attempts this morning with the site overloading and shutting down for maintenance I believe I have managed to download complete copies of both of today's songs. Whew!

The "Click Here" button only provides the link to the "A" version so I guess don't really understand the reason for two versions but they both sound great!

I should have been happy to get another free two-fer but no! I got greedy and tried to see if there was a plain "hesgone.mp3" file available without the "a". Then I tried to find "c", "d" and even "e" versions before I came to my senses and stopped fishing for even more freebies. I am so ashamed of myself.... ;)

Very Good!!!

It´s a very good "He´s gone" and the mix of the band with the audience makes it more powerful.

post-coma, for sure. 1989 maybe. That is definitely Brent, and Jerry's voice was trashed for most of 1988. 1989-90 prolly. I do not think I have ever heard this one.

He's Gone Version B-4/26/72

My vote for the He's Gone (B) is 4/26/72.

He's Gone was not included in the "Hundred Year Hall" release but both the LM Archive and the Taping Compendium have He's Gone on the set list. Following a Pig Pen tune (Mr. Charlie). Listen for Pig Pen saying his understated Thank Ya at the very beginning of version b. Listen closely.

The Weir "dedication to the State of T???" following the tune could well be patched rouse. Again, listen closely.

The intro on this He's Gone version B is the earlier intro. It changes later in the Euro 72 tour and never comes back to this early intro for the rest of the year.

Jahrhundert Halle, Frankfurt West Germany 4/26/72.

Any other ideas?

Spot on with this write-up,

Spot on with this write-up, I actually think this website needs rather more consideration. I’ll probably be once more to read rather more, thanks for that info.

Any Help?

Even with the links the Canyon Critter kindly put up, I haven't been able to get a good download for three days now. The songs keep getting cut off midway through. I only got 6MB on Sugaree.

Is anyone else having this problem who might be able to offer me suggestions? Or, alternately, is anyone posting copies of these elsewhere where I might be able to grab copies?

Nice post. I be taught one

Nice post. I be taught one thing more challenging on different blogs everyday. It will at all times be stimulating to learn content from other writers and follow slightly something from their store. I’d prefer to use some with the content material on my blog whether you don’t mind. Natually I’ll provide you with a hyperlink in your web blog. Thanks for sharing.

I tried logging in multiple times yesterday to download the day's mp3, but the site was never working right. Is there gonna be a way to get downloads from past days? By the way, it's doing the same thing today and I've tried multiple computers as well.

the feeling is still there

I wrote above that my last Grateful Dead show was Oct 1, 1994 - it was really Oct 3rd - I missed the 1st (darn!). I got a bit confused thinking that my last show was a month before Dick's Picks started. I had that cd soon after the release, I already had From the Vault I and II, Hundred Year Hall, and loads of others, plus probably about 30 traded tapes by this time.

Great First Week

Thanks for all the great music, This has been really fun so far. I'm happy if I get the year right. Missed Dark Star by 3 months. One really good thing to come out of this is it's got me going through all my old cassette tapes. I haven't pulled them out in years.

Thanks for the great artwork CC! And God bless the Grateful Dead.

credit is due

Waiting patiently and thinking of ALL the good people making this possible. I sure would like everyone to remember Dick Latvala. It is hard to think that anything like this 30 day music giveaway would be possible without all his work and love of the recordings in the vault. Ok, maybe it would have happened anyways but he got the ball rolling.

It was November 1, 1994 that Dick's Picks Vol. 1 was released. On a personal note, that was one month after my last show - October 1, 1994 at the Boston Garden. Brokedown Palace closed the show and that song always holds a special place in my heart. Perhaps a nice version of that is on the way, who knows???

What would be the answer to the answer man? ....

I confused ... And certainly not complaining about more tracks, but what's with the 'a' and 'b' with regard to the contest and also, yesterday's Sugaree; The date was announced as the 13th, but the note under says the 14th? ... Any thoughts?

A and B Versions

I just took a stroll thru all of the comments and could not find an explanation for the A and B versions...Is it that the streaming version is different than the download...I want to thank everyone involved for sure....but have A and B versions in a song contest can be very confusing.
