30 Days of Dead November 2
------ TURN OFF FUTURE & FORM -----
It's with deep appreciation and gratitude for you, the fans, that we'll be giving away an MP3 download every day this month. That's 30 days of unreleased Grateful Dead tracks from the vault, selected by Dead archivist and producer David Lemieux! Intrigued? We're also going to put your knowledge to the test and give you the chance to win some sweet swag from the Dead.
Guess the venue and date correctly and you'll be automatically entered to win our Grand Prize - a prize pack featuring our 2014 releases, merch, and more.
It seems I cant get any of the days to download. Error keeps saying that the URL wasnt found on the server. Can anyone help?
Technically this is actually "New, New Minglewood Blues" and when it reappeared in 1976 it was "All New Minglewood Blues" as is every version after that. It is always labeled as "New Minglewood Blues" incorrectly which is the revised Noah Lewis version as sung by the Noah Lewis Jug Band in the 1920's. Which was a revised version of his "Minglewood Blues" as sung by Cannon's Jug Stompers.
Ditto on the repeat, which made this a tough guess for me since I immediately thought Port Chester '71 but ruled it out because it was featured last year. I guess it's going to get harder each year to stay completely fresh. Also, Pig is getting the royal treatment this Record Store Day so we may not hear much from him again this contest. Great Shakedown choice on Day 1; the Wharf Rat from the Rainbow is my favorite version, with Brent leaning heavily on the keys before he "flies away!"
This song was in last years 30 days of Dead. Love it but keep it fresh!
Can't believe I missed that. I even had that in my itunes collection!
SaintSteveg said it best! More Pigpen for sure. I can't speak for anyone else, but the Pigpen years are my favorite. I really hope you guys select some 1966 goodness, but anything Pig is amazing!
Peace love and the Grateful Dead....
this is what i'm using until i see an official art work release
what's the stripe down the middle for? is it supposed to be a number 1?
I suspect the whole month is already selected and planned out, so I doubt requests carry much influence, but the last two years' 30 days did not include a single song featuring Pigpen. Last year when I burned my CDs I mixed in a few, but I hope we can get some of his charisma shining out this year.
didn't we do this one last year too?
Yes. Yes we did!
Go read my hints from yesterday and this should be easy (early post)
I'm a day late to the party. Where can I get yesterday's tune?
Glad that 30DOD is back!!
Haha, nevermind...found it. Right at the top of the page there. Haha, got excited...
The 10.4 MB file I downloaded seems a little bit small even for New Minglewood although I haven't listened to it yet. Did my download stop before I got the entire track or is everyone's that size?
Perhaps from one of the missing tapes?
Of course I didn't get on here yesterday. Any info on where I can get the download?
Look to the right on your screen (if you're sitting by a computer). It says Past Days. Click on 1st. There you go!
Look above on this page where it says "1st" and "2d". Click on "1st" and you'll see yesterday's download.
Anyone have a link for last years 30? thank you
go to (http://deadroots.net/) to get the previous year's songs.
I don't know about a link, but you can actually hear all of last year's on Spotify.
EDIT: Hey we have actual threaded discussion now (with replies actually showing up under the message to which they are replying). Neat-o!
What a sweet Shakedown Street! Thank you for giving out 30 Days of Dead. I was wondering if there would be a way to provide a square album artwork that we can include in iTunes to go along with the playlist? Would really like a custom 30 Days of Dead 2013 album artwork. :)
hint ....1 drummer....
This is a great Shakedown and the whole show looks ass-kicking. A box set of Europe - Spring'81 sounds good to me. It's only 5 shows so, maybe throw Rockplast DVD the W.German show.
Nice version, especially nice to hear such a pristine recording of it. But, as they say, "scoop of chocolate, scoop of vanilla....don't waste my time!"
Love this promotion!
Would it be possible that a venue might be missing from the Pick's list
David's featuring 3/24/81 on XM this morning's GD History segment: jolly good stuff..I wonder if Cosmicbadger attended this show?
This is a hot version of this song...hopefully we'll see the rest of the show with it someday!
Ah, the clue makes sense now. Boy was I WAY off on this.
What a great version of Shakedown this is, thanks again for this whole thing...
My initial attempt to find the version of Shakedown yesterday was led me to the Shakedown opener for 12/31/84. I knew that couldn't be it, but I listened to it anyway - wow. Another great thing about this 30-Days thing, it leads you to stuff you never heard before. That is a huge Shakedown - what a New Years opener! Good show too, Scarlet>Fire, Spanish Jam, Baby Blue encore....
As for the Rainbow show, seems like the Dead were at a peak on the brief set of Europe 81 shows. Now that would be a nice box (with the Essen video).
not that i play this for the prizes but are those the prizes under the past days section? or just ads? 77 box set can't be the daily prize? the mug seems more like a daily prize contender.
It is still yesterday and I already guessed tomorrow. What does that mean for today? ;-p
