started by Oroboros It was 30 years ago today, that the Dead set up to play their second show at Red Rocks. I taped the show in Omaha (2 days prior) and then these shows at Red Rocks. These are the audience tapes of those 3 nights in July '78 with my Nak 550. I had patched into another rig with an 8 ft mic stand (later discovering that the kind taper was Bob Wagner) that got his Sony mics well above the crowd. Recently the GRATE folks at Mouth of the Beast graciously re-mastered my master Maxell cassette tapes with their modern electronic wizardry, meticulous expertise as well as their obvious love for the Dead's music. Today I got a message from Lapilot who was about to vine these babies (before his Nero froze up). So let me do the honors. First one on the list, pm me your address and I will get this send out to you. Happy anniversary to us! Awesome!
Add 7/5/78 to the list of must-have '78 shows! The sound quality here is unbelievable, and this coming form a SBD guy. Oroboros and MOTB did a fantastic job here. If the 7/7 and 7/8 shows are equal in sound quality, we'll all be putting our SBD copies of those shows in storage. Great job Oroboros and thanks for the "preview" copies!

I'm going to remove myslef from this vine as I realized I already had these shows (from MOTB) from archive.org. I've re-posted the vine below with me removed and everyone subsequent of me moved up a notch. Omaha - Red Rocks shows 1.That Nice Hippy Guy 2.Deadicated 3.toddsnc 4.stuman 5. joneb 6. DaveC 7. Mailed out today
to that nice hippy guy. Hey, everyone give a listen to the wonderful 'strut' that Phil breaks into in the Cold Rain & Snow. Phil takes command and just slides and plucks and directs the band into a tremendous version of that tune. Quite unlike some others that are all power and volume, this one wraps you up in a that 'cool Colorado range' on that night. And the rest of the show(s) are quite fun as well. ;o} Enjoy, and Vine On! These are NOT the original MOTBs. I'll have to check but they are sbds and mtxs I believe. Sorry for the confusion. "It's got no signs or dividing line and very few rules to guide"

of these Red Rocks shows at the MOTB.for some reason the soundboard from the first show (I think) was flawed, so the matrix was actually an 'upgrade' from the soundboard. I realize that sounds unusual, but that is my understanding. I would be glad to reseed the audience tapes (and inserts) if people are interested. Thanks to JSFC for keeping this vine moving. Those were special shows for me. Red Rocks Furthur this fall! The Truth is realized in an instant, the act is practiced step by step.

The Betty board was recorded in mono for some reason: Lemieux may know wtf happened.

new stereo source of that evening's show. And the Omaha show that there is no soundboard of and the Tapers Compendium notes is a grate '78 show. Taper Bob Wagner said Omaha was the best of the run, which is some heavy hitting considering. But you are right, Ted, for some reason the board tape for that night was mono (too many chemical assistants on board at the soundboard ? ;o} ). Gotta love the Rocks ! The original vine, seeded by Oroboros, consisted of his AUD recordings, mastered by MOTB, in WAV. The reseed by JSFC, I believe, consisted of the 7/5 MOTB/Oroboros AUD, and SBD/AUD matrices of 7/7 (mtx.octopus.rider.98917) and 7/8 (mtx.tobin.91777), all in FLAC. I don't have the flac id for 7/5 in my spreadsheet (because I didn't convert and burn, being satisfied with the originally seeded Oroboros A+ AUD).

.. and tends to get lost. But some one should sign up for this vine... and PM Gr8fulTed. Some really fine playing on these shows. Comments from dsatche above worth repeating: "The recording of 7/5 is one of the BEST AUD's I have ever heard. And these are 3 of the top 20, if not top 10, shows of the year." And from the original seeder (and taper of one show) Oroboros: "...the Omaha show ...there is no soundboard of and the Tapers Compendium notes is a grate '78 show. Taper Bob Wagner said Omaha was the best of the run, which is some heavy hitting considering." Do yourself a favor and the postman will do the rest.... 39. Gr8ful Ted 40. 41.
