I don't want to cause this thread to lose momentum, but it is now over 4K posts long, which is a bit unwieldy. I can start a new one, just give me a name for it... Thanks!

...you can't un-see it. It's called the light. and it focused on a small patch of green in the Windy City 2 years ago. Two years, seems like only one fifth of a decade, a tenth score; only yesterday. Sometimes that light is all shining on you, sometimes you can hardly see. Sometimes that light's a bolt, sometimes it's at the end of the tunnel. Sometimes it's a house, sometimes an inquisition. Sometimes it's a bulb that goes off. Sometimes it's just not heavy. May that light which helped us all get together 2 years ago continue to shine on you, light your path and chase away the darkness. May it provide warmth when you are cold, and direction when you are lost. And may it clearly mark the intersection whence our paths cross once again. Cause i ain't never had so much fun couch touring, jumping on ba dus, enjoying donuts, no duts and snot duds, reminiscing, sharing stories, enjoying Oteil, marveling at Checkers, nodding knowingly at Bobby, dancin' at drums, gasping at Jeff, planning adventures, being surprised and feeling like i belonged to something priceless practically never like this since we first left home. Who are the grateful daydreamers and why do they keep following me/us? Thanks Daydreamers. Happy Birthday indeed! Love and hugs from the Hills of North Texas and Happy Birthday to all of us, you, your family and the horse, camel, terrapin, pup, cat and/or psychedelic squirrel you rode in on or with.

Well said, as usual, Geo. Got the post-tour blues these last couple of days. But still so very grateful for the bond we've formed - and for this music and band. Two years has gone by SO FAST!! What an amazing time it was - and the last two summers, too! Thanks, rrrrrGrrrrr for the shares... Onward for sure! I know our paths are destined to cross again.

Heard an interview with Bob from backstage after 7/1/17, he was quite pleased with the tour and proud of the bands maturity. With that said, he does not want this to become stale, Oteil has a gig he's getting ready to embark on, Chimenti is going on tour with Kimock, Bob is going back to the range and play Cowboy for a few months, Lil John is getting his inner rock idol dream fulfilled and Mickey has a new LP and band with a fall tour. I am sure this Mayer n Sons gig is not over, but we have to be patient and thankful for the musical gifts they have brought us. Regarding kids, back in the day I took both of my girls to Dead shows, got Scotty on board with Ratdog in 2010 and he and his girl have been in search of the grail ever since. Dead shows are very inclusive and family friendly always have been. Take your boys Tony if you can, the bond that this music brings to us can not be broken. Have a blessed fourth and may Gob be with us all ;-)

Morning all. Ears Buzzin, head mushin, after show wake up day. Sweet weariness! Had a blast yesterday. Got caught up in the horrible backup on Rt. 29 getting to the show and missed the Shakedown scene and Daydreamers meetup, really sorry guys - next time for sure. Made it to the venue Just as Phil was starting.. I brought my 3 sons (Phil, Spiro, and Costa) to the show - first live Dead related experience for all them - fulfilling a promise to them, and a dream to me. That for me was what the night really ended up being about. I wanted to wait until they were old enough to appreciate the music and not worry if we got separated in the crowd. This was a family bonding night I will treasure forever, especially since they're at or getting to an age when family activities seem fewer and paths are branching off for them. We danced and laughed, pranked and shared post-show pie (cherry crumb). . Jambase has a good rundown of the shows events: http://www.jambase.com/Articles/125076/All-Star-Cast-Honors-Jerry-Garci… (BTW - that's me and Costa's "J" in the first photo - sign was about 15' high) . SPECIAL SHOUTOUT: Who ever started the tin foil hat thread, we made and wore them to the show as a goof, but they are really great for finding each other in a large crowd, and at least ten people told us we were reference points for finding friends. Genius idea!

So glad you had family time at the show....that's what the spirit of the scene is, I remember taking my oldest to 2003 Dead with Hunter and Dylan opening, then in 2009 both of my daughters....it's my boy's turn in Chicago.... Streamed the show vicariously with Totes and Kristine..... Nice set list and overall representation of all that was is and forever will be Jerry... Grab a cup of coffee and remain comfortably numb.... torrent up on bt.etree.org...127 seeds...wicked fast...

First, good morning SD group and happy Friday (glad Deer Jerry was a fun success trip for all who went). OK, for the message (you may recognize it, heard it on the way to work this morning and made me think of the 'dreamers): "You're my blue sky, you're my sunny day Lord you know it makes me high when you turn your love my way Turn you love my way, yeah, yeah." ...we're having a high time, living the good life... * brought to you by Mike and Klangtones

We here in Sactown USA have a skunk problem, they are everywhere. So we have a special entrée this year at the 50th anniversary of the Klangfest. BBQ Skunkburgers. Stallone said, "This is Rat. I'm eating a ratburger. Not bad!" Well, you haven't lived until you've had one of Klang's infamous skunkburgers. The bad smell of a live one somehow transforms into a culinary delight once charred over the Weber. You have to use pinewood to smoke it though, mesquite or hickory just doesn't get it done. You need that pinetar sap to seep into the skunk for the proper flavour to come out. Then top it with bbq sauce and tarter sauce (don't ask, it just works). Happy feasting, see you at the camel ranch...

GG with "The Thrill is Gone." Sending my deepest sympathies, Lucille. Such fun listening into Set 2 of Dear Jerry Last night, with excellent company. Watching the scene actually brought a tear to my old eyes (*lol* especially when upside down.) I particularly enjoyed Trampled by Turtles and Yonder Mountain (a banjo Shakedown Street? It was awesome!) Confirmed my thought that we'll all go home Sunday in July humming Ripple. Let there be songs to fill the air! Have a grateful day, all.

Love those Jerry ties! I don't have forty, but I have an exclusive collection as I've rid myself of imposters. I get comments all the time "is that a Jerry Garcia tie?" Lol, people know more about the Dead than they let on sometimes. Let's hear it for Fridays! Humping pants are in the hamper, ties in the drawer, and jackets in the closet. A bit of rain for the parched desert and my Rockies finally won a game! Dear Jerry was awesome--the parts I got to see. Still need to take a gander at Scarlet and Shakedown but saw the rest. RIP BB--filled the air with songs from start to end. Have a tin-foily Friday everyone!

Just a few weeks ago, and for the first time, I shed real tears for Garcia's death.I had been a lapsed Deadhead after seeing some lackluster shows in the early 80's, and back when I first learned of Jerry's death, I sighed and shrugged; I lamented more how he had contributed to his own demise, than on what he meant. Thank goodness for the Internet Archive: it has brought me all the way back to a seat near the front of the bus. Only with the passage of time do I fully appreciate the towering musical accomplishment of the band. Reveling in all of those recordings, totally independent of the "scene", has validated for me that that those magic moments were as authentic an experience of transcendence as any person has ever had. And so recently when it came to picturing myself saying to another one of you beautiful people, "I miss Jerry", it really moved me, thinking he gave so much of himself to so, so many people, and how much life he fit into his 53 years. Praise be to the source of all Love.

I just read your post Graceful....and I am crying like a little girl..... 8/9/95....at work, saving lives and a co worker comes up to me and said, Jerry is dead.... I walked around in a fog the rest of the day....when I found out Bobby had Ratdog on the road and didn't cancel his tour.....I wrote him out of my life....selfish SOB I thought.... I boycotted all things post dead until 2003 when the Dead announced the 2003 tour with Herring and Joan....sat 12th row with my then 15 yo daughter, saw Hunter, Dylan and the Boys.... Opened with a long jam into Music Never Stopped>Casey Jones.... Back on the bus....since....in a very obsessed and some would call sick way....since then both parents died, and despite my wonderful wife of 31 years and 3 magnificent children....here I sit crying... ....there's something about a Sunday, makes a body feel alone.... I too Miss Jerry, and my parents....and you guys who I feel like I know.... disclaimer .....second anniversary of my dads passing.... I'll be better tomorrow...promise.... Coffee is on....
