Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have music from 1972, and a double dose of 80s Dead, from 1984 and 1988.
Our first stop this week is on 10/17/72 in St. Louis, at the beautiful Fox Theatre, where the Dead were opening a terrific three night run of shows with this big batch of much from the first set: The Promised Land ; Bird Song ; El Paso ; Sugaree ; Me And My Uncle ; Tennessee Jed ; Big River ; China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider ; Black Throated Wind ; Deal.
From 12 years later on 10/20/84, we have music from Syracuse, NY, featuring the start of the second set: Shakedown Street > Samson And Delilah ; He's Gone > Smokestack Lightnin' > Jam. And audience tape of this show was one of the first live Grateful Dead tapes I ever received, in late 1984, and I know every single note of this fine show.
Lastly this week is music from Bob’s birthday show on 10/16/88 in St. Petersburg, FL, where we have the end of the show, featuring The Wheel > Gimme Some Lovin' > All Along The Watchtower > Morning Dew, Quinn the Eskimo.
Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.
