David Gans has been around the Grateful Dead scene for as long as I can remember. For over 20 years he's been hosting the Grateful Dead Hour with fine music, stories, in-depth knowledge and well planned broadcasts. He has co-written the ever popular 20th anniversary book "Playing in the Band," as well as "Conversations with the Dead" and other books. He has also contributed to many other publications such as the Golden Road, Dupree's Diamond News, and the list goes on. David is a musician who tours and plays some fine original music as well as great covers. He's collaborated with many fine musicians, including one of my favorite bands, moe. I listened to his "Birdsong" this afternoon and that was enough to convince me that I'd make a tribute drawing to the man who brings us a LOT. He's a multi-tasker in the true sense of the word. Thanks David. Get back Truckin' on..... ; ) If anybody can........ Gans Can. Tom Mitt

Am trying again as I messed up the first time. Because I am not a good writer and cannot for sure mention the organizations, activities and people who have carried on since Jerry Garcia passed I cannot respond to this columnist with any confidence .
His name is Mike McHugh and he contributes to the local paper "Daily News" from Jacksonville, North Carolina. Jacksonville is a military town with a redneck attitude so he gives opinions reflecting this fact. Here is the address to the article:

He really struck a nerve with me by suggesting that Deadheads were left with nothing to do after Jerry Garcia died. That "the “Deadheads’ lost when their idol died." In other words it all just stopped.
I'm hoping this passes round enough so folks can email him a "Box of Rain." and "show him the light." His email at the paper is: mmchugh@freedomenc.com
