Mickey Hart Performs at Walter Cronkite Tribute

Last night (September 9, 2009), Mickey Hart performed in the Walter Cronkite Tribute at Lincoln Center.  Hart first performed with Jimmy Buffett and then with Zakir Hussain and Sikiru Adepoju. Hart, Hussain and Adepoju (3/4 of The Global Drum Project) were also joined by saxophonist Paul Winter.

Hart reminisced about drumming with Walter .  Walter turned and asked, "Mickey when do we know we have the groove?"  Mickey replied, "Walter you'll know." A short time later, Cronkite exclaimed, "Mickey, I got it!"

    Great anecdote! I'm really
Great anecdote! I'm really glad Mickey showed Walter how to find "the groove" (and that he was lucky enough to find it). This was a beautiful tribute to a deeply spiritual man with many facets. Mickey, happy birthday and many thanks for doing what you do. Your tireless efforts to expand the horizons of drumming have been a constant inspiration to me over the years to keep playing, avoid limits (in music and in life), and help others find their own groove.bluesdrummermark

Hey Mickey, Hi there. I saw this and was in awe of the moment. Walter was very happy, to be sure, to have you honor him at this special event. I am fortunate to have shared it. Thank you. He was a very special person, always doing his personal best for the people. RIP Walter. And to think I've written this on YOUR birthday has also left me in awe. So, let's celebrate it ALL today. Him, you, me and ALL the rest because Pslam 118 tells us, "This is the day the Lord hath made we shall rejoice and be glad in it." I use it everyday, and can find the joy in ALL things anyways. Besides, death is not the barren of winter, it is the new blossoms of spring. And on that note... Happy Birthday to YOU Happy BirthdaY TO YOU HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR MICKEY Haaapppppy BirrrrtthdAYYYYY TO YOU! Hit the drum and smile! You are so loved! And leave it on! xoxoxo ----------------{-------@ Best wishes for a great year. Love, light and peace to you and yours, SherBear
