August 13 - August 19, 2012

Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, as we roll through the dog days of summer with some fine Grateful Dead music spanning six years, 1978-1984.
Our first stop this week is the second set from 9/2/78, the last show before Egypt. This was the first New York City area show by the Grateful Dead since just about exactly a year before, on 9/3/77 at Enlishtown. From this show, we have Estimated Prophet>Eyes Of The World.
Next up is music from the Warfield in 1980 on 10/3/80, the end of the third set. This is drawn from cassette PA master, and features The Wheel>Playing In The Band reprise>Black Peter>Good Lovin', Brokedown Palace.
Lastly, we have a long-traded, and very popular piece of music from 11/2/84 in Berkeley, CA, the pre-Drums portion of the second set of the show: Help On The Way>Slipknot!>Franklin's Tower>Lost Sailor>Saint Of Circumstance>Wharf Rat>Gimme Some Lovin'. This was the first version of Gimme Some Lovin' played by the Dead, and the set also features a rare pre-Drums Wharf Rat.
Be sure to come back next week for more tunes from deep within the vault.

they might decide my time here

Most importantly----- ------->
This sacrifice is so wonderful, I can only rejoice.

This is a new feel to me.. oddly, as i approach all things oddly, i have avoided hearing a lot of '77-78 era material due to it's large popularity ;)
..makes hearing the bits and pieces that find their way to my ears an extra special treat!!
never heard quite that laid back disco Eyes before, and still brimming with the melodic vitality i cherish from those first couple years of Eyes, '73-74.. and something i don't really hear again once the 80's hit, even through the end.
I am loving this groove!!!
Nice!
Appreciate the feeling your comment evokes! Always had a soft spot in my heart for the Lost Sailor/ Saint. For me in the early-mid 80's, it always managed to convey a real Beat sensibility. Ulysses, The Odyssey, and On The Road all rolled up and it got folks moving on a good night!
Peace

freedom doesn't come for free
it's the way it's go to be
two kinds of freedom
drifting and dreaming
there's a place you've never been
you can hear 'em calling
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh
always chasing dreams
drifting and dreaming
maybe going on a dream now
(I love this part!)
This must be Heaven
never find
rain falling down
Here's where the rainbow ends
if this ain't the real thing
it's close enough to pretend
Holes in whats left of my reason
never could read no road map
no time to lose
just don't ever know

IS...
there anyway this internet song player
could feature a repeat button? So I can
listen to it over without having to restart it.
My listening varies over each time and I
focus on a specific part then something else;
depending on the song. I like to think my
mind is like a soundboard, kinda, xo!
So um yeah---how about a repeat button?
If there is one already, teach me how to
use it, please.
I've wanted to type that for a very long time.
Guess we're all caught up, xo!
