Hollywood palladium 8/3/71:
God's gifts and all that........
Is that my glass? Can you see it? Understand me?
The Dead took chances every gig they played; but the chances they took in 71 take my breath away. The amazing thing to me is that everyone in the group shared the same aesthetic daring. How did this band come together? The universe demanded it, maybe. I play that version of Hard to Handle over and over and it sounds better every time I hear it. The Vulcan mind meld is in full effect. Love that Other One Jam, too.

this time next week, i'll be listening from my school computer ( i love my tech guy who keeps me dialed in!) , not here in my cozy house with a pot of coffee and peace and quiet.... but instead surrounded by 30 teenaged yahoos and noise and hormones and chaos....
summertime has come and gone... o me o my...

Well, compared to a stadium maybe...
I did like it though. Once we lost the Greek and Frost and Henry J, it was about the best Northern California venue we had left.
