Just like your favorite jam, things are going to get a bit funky on Dead.net over the next week or so. Community accounts will be temporarily closed October 16th-17th and may be under further maintenance through October 22nd. But rest assured, we will be back up and better than ever shortly thereafter. Stay tuned!

Welcome back to the Taper's Section, where this week we have music from 1973, 1978 and 1979
Our first selection this week is a rare one-song here at the Tapers' Section, but if there was ever a good song title for stand-alone inclusion, it's this: Playing In The BandPlaying In The Band from 5/20/73 at UCSB Stadium in beautiful Santa Barbara, CA.
From five years later at the penultimate show of the Spring Tour of 1978, we have the start of the second set featuring almost an hour of music before they headed into Rhythm Devils, with these six songs: Scarlet Begonias > Fire On The Mountain, El Paso , Ship Of Fools , Estimated Prophet > He's Gone.
Lastly this week, from Brent's first tour with the Grateful Dead, we have some first set music consisting of New Minglewood Blues; Peggy-O; Passenger.
Be sure to join us here next week for more music from the vault.
I had been there!
The Uptown Theatre opened its doors August 18, 1925, billed as "An Acre of Seats in a Magic City."In the 1970s, the theater was revived as a major concert venue, hosting local and national acts, notably the Grateful Dead several times between 1978 and 1981. The J. Geils Band was the last band to play at the theater.
The Chicago Cubs smoked the SF Giants in a three game series @ Wrigley field 08.06-08.08.15.Just a few blocks away.
Chicago my hometown.
excellent sound and no Charlie Miller funk.
WOW !!! xoxo
Offshore breeze kicking up while the PITB '73 jam plays on. Sweet sounds! Thank you David!
I REALLY loved the JOTW from Friday, that's some true, edgy Grateful Dead glory.
Sounds like it's from 1/4 inch 2 track reels to me.
I think the '78 clip is Chicago 5/16 and the '79 5/7 Easton, PA.
Thanks for the Monday tunes. Enjoying the Chicago Scarlet with my dark roast this morning.
