Grateful Dead

February 6 - February 12, 2012

Tapers Section By David Lemieux

Greetings, and welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we'll cover 22 years of Grateful Dead history, starting in 1970 and running to 1992, with a huge gap in between.

Our first stop is for some acoustic/electric Dead at the Family Dog on 2/28/70, where we have Monkey and the Engineer, Little Sadie>Black Peter, China Cat Sunflower>I Know You Rider>High Time>Dire Wolf.

Next is the tour-opener from Spring 1991, on 3/17/91 at the Capital Center in Landover. This is an extremely long pre-Drums sequence, featuring China Cat Sunflower>I Know You Rider>Women Are Smarter, Crazy Fingers>Truckin'>New Speedway Boogie. Those of us running 100 minute cassettes at this show had a problem when we had to flip our cassettes at the 50 minute mark of this set.

Lastly this week is music from 3/20/92, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, where we have the start of the second set, Shakedown Street, Women Are Smarter, Dark Star. This was the final Dark Star performed outside of the United States (and the penultimate show from outside the United States). Bruce does some particularly inventive things throughout this show.

Be sure to join us next week for more tunes.
