January 30 - February 5, 2012

Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we'll check out some Grateful Dead music from 1970, 1974 and 1981.
Our first selection this week is from the Family Dog in San Francisco, where we have the show-closing sequence if Alligator>Drums>The Other One>Mason's Children>Lovelight. That Lovelight is the closing reprise from the Lovelight show-opener.
Next is music from the Wall of Sound tour, when the Grateful Dead stopped at Springfield Civic on 6/30/74 to close the second leg of the Wall of Sound tour, playing this great sequence of Playing in the Band>Uncle John's Band>Playing in the Band.
Next up is music from the first of two nights at Madison Square Garden, where we have the start of the first set featuring Feel Like A Stranger ; Althea; C C Rider ;Ramble On Rose > El Paso ; Deep Elem Blues. Both of these shows are very hot, and worth checking out if you've not heard them.
Be sure to stop by next week for more great music from the vault.

Every week this site just gets better and better. There is no better way to see what's in the vault than to check out this site. Grateful Dead fans will never become extinct. Thanks again.
If you continue reading
at that site, you will learn that The Grateful Dead vault is still full of things that either remind some of the past or introduce new fans to this music that defined a generation.
Hey Man,
1970
Diggin' the tempo that the band lays down on the last Mason's Children.
This performance hot off the heels of the Workingman's sessions after
that quick hitting foray into Texas...
1974
This is the show that started it all for me as my older brother came back
from this show flummoxed and flabergasted and generally agog while
trying to describe the Wall of sound. particularly hung up on the
description of what we all now refer to as the "Center Cluster".
1981
Enjoying the loosey goosey groove from this Era. Cassette Master?
Merci Beaucoup Monsieur Lemieux

Deadhead: That can't be the right date unless DeadBase is off. Of the 9 shows at the Dog in 1970, DeadBase does not list this sequence. Somebody want to point out another reference for me, where it is listed?
If there is no other reference than this is truly a nugget from the Vault or mislabeled by DL, which I doubt.
I'm confused. Help!
This segment from 1970 (@ Family Dog) is a sweet little thang'. Groovin' & Movin' the whole way around...thanks so much, Dave !!
& I vote that this week's Taper's Section deserves a big "Holy Cow", exclaiming it's worth as a far above average representation of wonderfulness :)
Have Fun !!!
