July 9 - July 15, 2012
Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music from 1972, 1982 and 1988.
Our first stop is the excellent 9/10/72 show in Hollywood, CA, from one of the greatest months in Grateful Dead music history. From this show we have Bertha, Greatest Story Ever Told, Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo, Black-Throated Wind, Bird Song.
Next up is some high-energy, mighty fine playing from the Fall Tour of 1982 on 9/11/82 in West Palm Beach, FL, where we have the start of the second set. Scarlet Begonias>Fire On The Mountain>Lost Sailor>Saint of Circumstance>Terrapin Station. This is that type of sequence where you can really hear how engaged and present all six band members are, playing off one another.
Lastly this week is the music from the fourth and final night at the Capital Center in 1988, from 9/6/88, where we have the post-Drums portion of the show, featuring Space>Other One>Wharf Rat>Throwing Stones>Not Fade Away, Brokedown Palace. There was plenty of good music played at these shows, plus the one-off return of Ripple during the second show on 9/3/88.
Be sure to join us next week for more tunes from the vault. And don't forget, we always welcome your questions or comments, sent to me at the email address below.
Your excellent work here
decorates the air in my home
so beautifully with a heart of
gold band jam that eases me
into a >Fire with hot embers from
distant flames of melted hours
turning into just ago.
Thank you so much, so so much, XO!
I love you, oh but Jesus loves you the Best!
I love the kind competition He and I sher.
Kinda, xo! Have a great week everyone!
Hot show should be a daves picks.
I'd like to raise a glass to the jam which leaves me trembling with excitement. Here's a couple- the closing Fire jam from 4/11/78, and the second jam in West LA Fadeaway from 7/19/89. This version of West LA is featured on the Downhill From Here DVD- A soundtrack of which has never been released.
Just can't get enough of them. Enjoy every one I've heard.
