    June 17 - June 23, 2013

Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, as we head into Summer. To launch our first Summer entry here, we have music from 1978, 1979 and 1984.

Our first stop this week is on 5/17/78 in Chicago, the final show of the Spring Tour of 1978 (which was divided into two legs: 4/6 through 4/24, and 5/5 through 5/17). From the Uptown in Chicago, we have the end of the second set, featuring Space>Terrapin Station>Not Fade Away>Around and Around.

From the Spring Tour of 1979, we have music from 5/7/79 in Easton, PA, featuring the end of the second set: New Minglewood Blues, Peggy-O, Passenger. This is Brent's fifth show with the Dead, and his additions to the sound were very prominent from the start, and always excellent.

From five years later on 4/24/84 in New Haven, CT, we have the end of the first set, and the start of the second set, from the cassette master: My Brother Esau, Ramble On Rose, It's All Over Now>Don't Ease Me In; China Cat Sunflower>I Know You Rider. Plenty of good music on the Spring Tour of 1984.

Be sure to join us here next week for more tunes from the vault.

Brent scat singing on All Over Now
Right at the start of his solo, not directly into the mic, but audible and interesting.

Thanks!Talk about yer plenty, xo! China Cat is streaming and I am about rock out a IKYR from '84... The stories from 1984 when it was a totally different time from today. Indeed it makes it a smart visit to revisit un-fathomable music greatness. Here we go, neighbors intact. Love and luck, love and luck... My Dad's best teachers, xo. XO

Very interesting, new selections. It seems to be going unnoticed that DL's played clips from 2 uncirculated soundboards from Spring '79 the past 2 weeks. Is he tossing around ideas for upcoming Dave's Picks? I know he's been talking about these tapes in recent interviews as well.

Hey man, Great stuff this week at TS. You are astute in your observation wilfred tj. Yeah you right mikestar with the UMass '79 show(outdoors!). Billerica night before Portland Me night after A fine run indeed. DL says"Plenty of good music on the Spring Tour of 1984." "You just gotta poke around" to come by it, but it is there. Check Providence 4/26/84 Shakedown opener That Supplication ain't too bad either Brent was swinging during this run of shows as I recall... I have to say, the Eyes of the period were a bit fast for me But who am I I am nothing... Merci beaucoup Monsieur Lemieux shwack in nh
