March 12 - March 18, 2012

Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music from 1969, 1980 and 1985.
Our first stop this week is at the beautiful Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco on 12/19/69, where we have a batch of new, Workingman's Dead-to-be songs, as well as two Pigpen-sung classics: Mason's Children, Black Peter, Hard To Handle, Cumberland, Casey Jones, Good Lovin'.
Next up is music from 12/13/80 in Long Beach, CA, where we have the post-Drums sequence of Not Fade Away>Black Peter>Sugar Magnolia, One More Saturday Night. The shows in November and December, 1980, after the long runs at the Warfield and Radio City, were for the most part excellent.
Lastly this week is the post-Drums sequence from 11/8/85 in Rochester, NY, including a couple of relative rarities in She Belongs To Me and Satisfaction. The Other One>I Need A Miracle>She Belongs To Me>Sugar Magnolia, Satisfaction. This was very nearly my first show, but instead I stayed back in Ottawa, celebrating my birthday by being mugged.
Be sure to join us next week for more tunes from deep within the vault.

Even the Silver Stadium shows were top notch. Green onions, anyone?
That acoustic Jerry show in '84 at the Auditorium Theater was very sweet. To have Hunter open was icing on the cake indeed.
Fond memories.
I was always impressed with the wide array of shows and talent that Rochester attracted... it seemed like such a different world than Syracuse.
I think it cost more to be mugged in Canada with the exchange rate and all. I could be wrong.

i've had the same trouble many a time
Deadbase shows SBTM being played 10 times. Once in '66 and the rest in a span between 4/4/85 to 11/21/85. If you haven't seen it, there's an acoustic version w/ Jerry, Bob and Phil shot in black and white on the Backstage Pass video that is very nice.
I guess I assumed (we know what that does) That you bus tour started much earlier. that was the same period of time that i jumped on
...and still nothing has ever been played in the Taper's Section from Birmingham or Atlanta during the late 70s. Saw some mighty fine shows at the Fox and Omni and some darn good ones in B'ham too.
So when are you going to finally dig a little deeper, guys, or shall you just retreat back into Winterland or the Fillmore for the umpteenth time once again?
I didn't mean to post 4 times, but the server didn't take my comment in a timely manner - anyone else have that problem with this site? Seems finicky...
at least not any of the shows I saw in my hometown, from Holleder Stadium 9-1-79 through JGB at the War Memorial in the fall of '93...
even before that, '73, '76, '77 - all good ones... '78 is probably the closest they came to a 'bad' show in Rochester...
The previous night's opener was Dancin' in the Street, love how they mixed things up on that tour!
