Week of May 13-19, 2019
Welcome back to the Tapers’ Section, where this week we have Grateful Dead music from 1970, 1980, and 1989.
Our first stop this week is at the Fillmore West in San Francisco on 2/8/70, where we have this batch of excellent early-1970 Dead: Smokestack Lightnin'; Morning Dew; Dire Wolf; Me And My Uncle; Sittin' On Top Of The World; China Cat Sunflower, with a master tape cut at China Cat transitions to Rider.
Next up is music from 10/18/80 in New Orleans, the first night of a two night run as the Dead were traveling east to play the week+ run at Radio City Music Hall after almost three weeks at the Warfield. From this show we have the end of second set: Space > Not Fade Away > Black Peter > Around And Around > Johnny B. Goode, One More Saturday Night.
Lastly this week we have the end of the first set from the Dead’s final show at the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center in Oakland, CA, on 2/7/89, where we have Just A Little Light; Standing On The Moon; Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again ; Bird Song. This was the first live performance of Just A Little Light, and the second live performance of Standing On The Moon.
