Tapers Section By David Lemieux

Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music spanning 15 years of Grateful Dead history, 1972, 1979 and 1987.

Our first stop this week is on 10/17/72 in St. Louis, the first show of a terrific three night run at the Fox Theater. This show lacked the major second usual for this time (Other One or Dark Star; not the case for the next two nights…), but featured excellent playing throughout. From set two, we have Ramble On Rose, Mississippi Half-Step, Sugar Magnolia, Not Fade Away GDTRFB Not Fade Away, Uncle John's Band, Johnny B. Goode.

Our next stop this week is the start of the second set from 11/10/79 in Ann Arbor, MI, where the Grateful Dead didn't play often (about one stop per decade: 1967, 1971, 1979 and 1989) but they always played well. From that show we have Alabama Getaway>Promised Land, Ship Of Fools, Samson and Delilah, Terrapin Station>Playing In The Band.

Lastly this week we have the start of the second set from 9/15/87 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, the first show of a five night run, signaling the band's return to MSG after a four year absence. From this show we have China Cat Sunflower>I Know You Rider>Estimated Prophet>Eyes of the World.

Thanks for stopping by, and be sure to join us for more tunes from the vault.

The St. Louis Triptyk from the '72 Fox shows would make a dandy release regardless of how many '72 shows have already been issued.

I picked 10/17/72 and it is an excellent historic show, just like the rest of them.

And on that note-

A new selecting and presenting avenue appears as Yoda rolls us in to time... 9:47 EST and the circular dichroism that now exists in my listening ----- experience. Is perfectly wild, good times, no worries...nothing bad will happen, ever, really. It's all good Baby!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circular_dichroism

For me...a brand new way of picking, an another layer of the mystery in the combinations one could make, like wow. I have been doing planned projects and listening in 2 to 3 hour blocks. Each time the song came around again it was as exciting as the last time it did. Made quick work of good many things and am sure I will always prefer repeat option. I have found a absolute option- I want to keep, the repeat button function. Please and thank you. I love that it is with GD Hour too!

Awesome, yeah----THAT. Awesome.

wilfredtjones thanks for the story....I checked the collection booklet and only one is in there.

1972-D there were 2.7 Billion made

1976-D is found in the 9033 booklet

Hang on to it, I might offer you a buck a for it if I can't find one. lol. But with 2.7 Billion out there I may find one, so don't hold your breath. But hey you never know....you might buy a lottery ticket with the buck and win big! Ha.

Thanks for the sledge hammer bench story. After the time off request for this weekend was denied, I might just have to find me a bench or...two. Not for angers sake just an internal cleansing. So, THAT disappointment is abandoned and I have a speedy recovery.

Well, maybe I will go look at some pennies and um hmmmm (Sighs) have some tea yeah some tea, with a couple shots to chase it down. And listen to some of this great music, again and again.

Love to You and Love to All, xo!

Cheers, xo!

st. louis '72.............twas a very good year there,

well not for my parents, but just as a historical note, the wonderful and ever-so-dedicated mr. nick sand also happened to be in st. louis in '72, working away in a basement lab making his ultra-pure liquid sunshine daydream for one and all to enjoy............... not sure if he attended the concert; pretty sure his handiwork did, though............ :)))))))))))))))

I recently took out an old garage workbench that came with the house that I wanted to get rid of for years. It just got in the way for parking my car and basically was used only as a table. It took a sledgehammer and a some elbow grease but now it's gone, and all I have to remember it is stacked wood in the attic and the old 1972-D and 1976-D pennies I found behind it.

Spinning around and around each year and venue. MSG is rocking me right now...

"wings a mile long..."

I started a new collection of old United States Lincoln Cents aka Pennies.

They will range in year from 1941 to 1974. Those with a D were minted in Denver; S were minted in San Francisco.

The booklet I have to collect them in is an Official Whitman Coin Folder. Mine is # 0-307-09030-2

It is Copyright in 1949 WHITMAN COIN PRODUCTS St. Martin's Press, LLC 175 Fifth Avenue New York, N.Y. 10010 9030 Made In China

I have 4 so far and I just started today :) 1966 1968-D 1974 1974-D

Under each penny holder it has the number of pennies produced in that year. Like... In 1946 San Francisco made 198.1 Million Pennies In 1964 Denver made 3.8 Billion Pennies

I have the completed quarter collections for the United States Quarters which I love; twice, used two different coin folders each very different.

I've been saving pennies but I hope to find them with the saying... "Find a penny pick it up and all day long you'll have good luck."

The D and S are very hard for me to see too. Hope you all find a penny too.

Just typing and sher-ing, xo! Have a sweet Thursday, xo! Love and Light to You, All xo!

KKQQQ Thanks.

st. louis zoo.................'72

our family car, a '68 pontiac catalina, was parked near the entrance of the st. louis zoo when it was stolen in mid-august of '72. later that day,my brother and i were playing with toy cars on the floor of the st. looey police station while our parents were in another room answering questions. we ended up having a pleasant and informative Q and A session with two hookers who were handcuffed to one of the massive wooden benches located next to our play area. i do remember one of the girls telling us to "be good" or we could end up in trouble like them (i didn't become a hooker, thank goodness, but i did take "good" to be a relative term). to think, if we would have been at that zoo just two months later, all of this may have been averted due to the wonderful vibes going through that city (or best yet, we could've been at the concert)..................... :) PS. my brother (not esau) didn't become a hooker either (that i know of?) just in case anyone was wondering.......... :)

GDTRFB but never with Yoda at the helm!

Good Morning! It's Sunday here @ 8:12am.

The weather is overcast and cloudy, it rained last night and it's cool and comfortable.

The player and white space is euphoric, to me. All there is-is the music and nowwwww the Music Never Stops!

ARRrrrrrrrrooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

"I wanna tell ya, how it's gonna be, xo!"

I shall go now but only to return and sher one or two more words later. . "Think this through with me..."

Services are @ nine, kinda.

Thanks for the beloved music and for... your time and care in sher-ing this full-house hand of treasures. K's and Q's Baby!

Love to You, All xo

Have a grateful week ahead, xo!

With a orange juice on the rocks, Cheers!

The '72 selection is amazing in every way. But that is balanced by the '79 selection which has about the worst Terrepin I've ever heard. Jerry has no idea where he is after the lyrics. Very sad.
