I agree - a massive oversight. And although 3 of the Fillmore West shows from February-March 1969 have come out on vinyl in recent years, the cds of those shows are still only available via that limited edition box set that came out over 10 years ago. I hadn't even got a computer when that came out, so by the time I found out about it, it had long gone.

Well, I was at a few of the Europe '72 gigs. I was at Wembley, I was in Paris, and best of all I was at all four nights at the Lyceum. It was good. So naturally I rushed out and bought the 3 CD 5/26/72 because I was actually there that night and well tripped out. I notice there's now a 50th Anniversary remix of "Europe '72". Why has the 50th Anniversary skipped over and ignored Live Dead?

The Real Reason For The Release

There is one comment that the sound on the "the original vinyl from way back was a half step fast, for some reason. Like He's Gone in the key of F, not E." That was a comment from one person on this forum. I have read others like it. For the record, "this one's been newly mastered by GRAMMY® Award-winning engineer David Glasser with newly restored audio by Plangent Processes," which corrects that problem. So yes, a lot of us are looking forward to this improved release. But feel free to pile on.

Wolf, you say: "Honestly I do not understand why there is an Anniversary release of this CD. "
I bet you honestly really DO understand. It's obvious: money. Most "new releases" (almost all) are done for money, period. Most people (almost all) would hardly hear the difference between the original and the "remastered" if you tested them. Almost all "new releases" are a waste of money and only exist to make money for those producing these "new releases". It's a sham.

Wolf - yes, the original Europe 72 triple album seems redundant to me now, too. Especially as the best sides on it are also available on 5/26/72.

Liamfukkerduccr - we don't have elderly relatives - we ARE the elderly relatives.

Honestly I do not understand why there is an Anniversary release of this CD. Of course it was a nice 3-Set LPs when it was out in 1972, but with the release of this 2-CDs earlier, with the release of the complete box approx. 12 years ago, and the announced release of the last show of the Europe trip 1972 (5/26/1972 - in my opinion the best show of all these good shows), there is everything you need. The Anniversary release doesn't bring anything new - even the Digipack with bonus songs is better than that, what is now announced - just my opinion!

    Mistake on Tennessee Jed

This seems to be wrong. Prove me wrong if I'm wrong.
    It says:
    TENNESSEE JED
Recorded live at THE OLYMPIA THEATRE, Paris, France

I see only one Tennessee Jed at Olympia and it is NOT the one from the original album.
    The lyrics are different!
At 30 seconds of the Olympia version it says "listen to whistle of the PASSING train". On the album version it says "EVENING" instead of "PASSING".

Otherwise it does sound like that version, but I have to listen more closely later.
Is it possible they used that version and edited the "wrong" lyric? Weird!

I'm perplexed. Comparing them carefully, so much of them sound like the same version, but the above lyric difference plus at about 2:17 where Jerry sings "got a letter this morning, baby it, ALL it read...". Totally different the way he sings "ALL".
Can't be the same version then, but then where is the album version? I can't find it.

Found another difference: at about 3:34, Jerry sings "I RODE into Charlie Ford". RODE is very different on the two versions. In fact, he says "RUN" on the original album.

Yes, sides 5 and 6 are, were and always will be amazing. Truth be told, apart those sides, and the odd earlier highlight - Cumberland and China Cat-Rider, I wasn't that keen on this album when I first got it, back in the 70's. I started buying Dead albums about 1976, and got them pretty much one after another. This one didn't grab me like the 60's ones and American Beauty. And yet, overall, I think the individual shows are great-and that trunk box is one of the best boxes I have. It's just that original album.

    Another copy?

Over the years I wore out 3 copies of the E72 lp. Back then pop, click, and skips would accumulate because the LPS were played on low rent turntables, get tossed around, and be out in places that were far from "dust free". Love the sound of lps but with heavy use in less than ideal settings just don't go the distance. I bought the tape for the old VW before I had a tape deck. Bought the early cd set, got another cd set in the Golden Road box. Finally, the steamer trunk. Buy another copy of E72? Think I'll pass. However, if the Lyceum downloads are high def, I might just shell out for those. This music is that good (everyone knows that, hardly a revelation). I never tire of E72 sides 5 & 6. It's been worth every penny and has made life brighter.

I'm sitting on the fence on this one because I have the original Warner Bros. release, 3WX 2668 (0998 pricing code also on the spine), with the olive green label and booklet, this is almost 50 years old and I bought in January 1973. I have a BMG Music Club edition CD in a thick jewel case. I have the edition that was released within The Golden Road (1965 - 1973) box set that was released in 2001. From that release, I created CD-Rs with text for my car. I also have a personal limited edition of the steamer trunk box set of every show of the tour in 2011.
Do I really need yet another release of Europe '72?
It's a 2022 David Glasser master.
Definitely maybe.
