    Whatever...
Political and social soapboxes aside, all the New Year's run show that were played on GD channel were a real treat. If I might make a suggestion, I look forward to hearing David Lemeiux's comments and intros to 'This Day In GD History', but we can barely hear him. Any chance he could get a better mic/mix and/or move closer to the mic? Great job. His job is to shed light, not to master...

    GARC1A's Address?
Hey GARC1A, could you please provide your address so I can have the bill sent to you? I looked on your profile but didn't see it provided. Thanks! I can't wait to get my own satellite radio business, then I can spend money I'm not making but instead of going broke and out of business, I'll cry "poor" to the commerce regulators who will assist me by creating a less competitive environment and then charge my customers whatever I want. I can see droves of deadheads signing up for the service when it's over $100 per month, which it could be after the merger due to the extraordinary spending habits of this group of business owners. They make NASA look like spinsters when comparing the costs of the now mundane task of launching a geo synced satellite, much less what Sirius spent to get Howard Stern, who's as stale as your aunt's fruit cake, imo. When no one can afford to "pay up and enjoy the ride" at that point, we won't have our own channel anymore. Oh and guess what else waits for everyone, once the merger is completed - ADVERTISING! For the record, I've never been against the GD channel and for those that can afford such things, satellite radio, in general. "Wake up and find out that you are the eyes of the world..." "If the forms of this world die, which is more real, the me that dies or the me that's infinite? Can I trust my habitual mind, or do I need to learn to look beneath those things?"

Well you know son you just can't figure , finally we get our own channel yet still some people have to bitch . The $12.95 a month is a gift, the GD channel is a wonderful thing . I just 5 minutes ago heard Little Sadie from 10-30-80 and it was a treat. So people PLEASE stop overthinking this thing. In this case a monopoly in a land of only 2 businesses is needed because no merger could eventually bring both parties to a end. Then we,d have to listen to jerkoffs like Imus , Opie and Anthony , Cousin Brucie or whatever puppetheads are in your area. Id rather die before listening to traffic and weather with call letters every 6 minutes. And p.s it is unfortunatley for Rhino and the GD about $$$$ because with no $$$$ there is no GD channel - future releases etc ..... So pay up and enjoy the ride.

From what I've heard, both xm and sirius are bleeding money at this point. They have to create their own programing, their own satellites, their own radios, and compete with regular radio, ipods, cds and countless other media. For me, it competes directly with TV because while I'm at home, it is a constant decision as to whether to listen to Sirius or watch the tube. Furthermore, it is the NAB (National Association of Brocasters) who represent regular radio, who are the ones contributing money to the politicians who are discussing the anti trust issues. To me, that makes it pretty clear that Satellite radio is competing with regular radio at least... But what do I know, mostly I just fear that if the govt. continues to sit on this issue or disallows the merger entirely, the companies will go bankrupt. That would really bum me out since I enjoy this media more than I can believe... I probably listen 6 hours a day! So I say that if the government doesn't see a problem with FOX owning the Wall Street Journal - they should approve this merger already - especially considering it would affect less than 5% of the population at this point...

I still think creating a monopoly is a bad idea, in this situation. I'd much rather see the nuts and bolts of the industry merged and regulated as a necessary monopoly and it's costs (of the utility part of the business) passed along to consumers, in a timely manner through the spun off broadcasting companies themselves (I'd accept changes to those timelines as this new industry emerges and the facts are more available). This would allow for more access to the party for those interested in creating really competitive "stations" in this market. The reasoning, at this point, seems to be, "the business is ours, we paid for it, we want to do with it, as we please", which isn't wrong, just short sighted, imo. The owners are cool people, NOW. What about the future? That idea aside, what about the money these cats are losing? "The franchise rights alone will make us rich beyond our wildest dreams" (Ghostbusters) Why can't I get what I want, from any satellite supplier? I didn't buy an FM only radio for my car, in the past, why do I need to make that choice now? Interoperable Technologies already has a system that can play both providers signals. They claim the companies will exist seperately, once merged, so what gives? Spin off the burdensome utilities and move on! Sure, there needs to be a minimum or basic package I would buy from a company I would need to choose, but it doesn't seem capitalistic enough to me to rely on "exclusivity" alone to cover the prohibitive costs of this industry's startup and future. For that reason, millions of people are on the fence about buying satellite radio, NOW. Those are lost revenues, in a perishable sense. David Gans and company could make even more money and be more secure (more important than $$$ to me) in doing what they do, because they couldn't be kicked to the curb by individuals that control the entire market. All in all, just something to think about, in the USA at this time. We sit strategically atop a new industry that will undoubtedly be improved upon by another country, like Japan. I say we make the task much more difficult by getting it "right" the first time. "I tell you Max, I don't know why I ever leave this place. I've got all the company I need right here." - The Grinch

Please let Rob know that he has done an outstanding job with the play list at Radiio. In all honesty, I probably don't want to know where his material comes from.as long as there is music to rock my soul. Peace - David

Any word on the merger rumors in the coming year? I was pleased to see in last month's Rolling Stone (or was it Relix?) a write up of the new Dead Station. In the article, Bobby mentioned that the only other 24/7 Dead channel was an on line station on radioio.com . I have tuned in to that for the time being and I have really enjoyed it for the time being. Is there any input from the Dead organization into the radioio station? I look forward to eventually getting Sirius, but for the time being, I'll be utilizing the radioio life line and my XM AirAmerica Radio. Peace - David Diaz

Listening to the Asbury Park show the first time I ended up comparing John to Jerry which is how I came up with my negative review. I listened to the show again Sunday and said to myself I'll have an open mind and just accept it for what it is. By doing this I found myself enjoying it and thought John sounded pretty damn good! When Bobby sang " If this ain't the real thing, it's close enough to pretend" I had to smile. I guess if it's good enough for Phil and Bobby it should be good enough for me too. I hope I get the ticket for the Haiti benefit that I ordered. It would mean a lot to me to be able to be there to help the people of Haiti and to be there to help sing "happy birthday" to Phil. Don't tell me this town ain't got no heart You just got to poke around

I heard a version of Sugaree last night on GD Radio. It was not the Jerry version, older I think. A different song. Older I believe. Sounded like it was sung by a child or young woman. I really liked it. Does anyone know who it is by. I did not catch the song info as I was in and out of sleep.

I miss the late morning slot for GD history: 6 am (central) is too early, usually, and come around 6 pm I have something else going on like dinner, mowing the lawn, or still hitting happy hour. David, if you can return your historical feature to 10 am, this ole 'head will be gracious.

thanks for playing a Jerry and John acoustic show, heard it sat.nite. The Birdsong was awesome! and the SF '77 Sisters and Brothers you played afterwards was truly beautiful. That's probably the first time I've heard one of those shows since I saw them at the Wiltern Theatre in Hollywood about 25 years ago. I was at the Greek 1990 show you played, that was the last show I ever saw at the Greek, and of course the 1980 Keen college shows. What a great week, how bout a Jerry year?

I loved last Fridays today in grateful dead history from the Hult Center in Eugene, OR. circa 1983. If David is looking for something to blow peoples minds on September 10 there is another good show from that year, I was thinking maybe from coming out of drums through the enocre. Good work you do there.

Hey David: what happened to the first half of the 1st set to 7/7/81, @ KC Municipal? The airing of 7/7/81 didn't kick in until El Paso.... Ushers and bouncers were not tolerating smokers nor tapers at this show. I noticed an upload on archive.org today that had passed thru Charlie Miller's hands.

Well, the Sirius broadcast was a bust. They said there were problems with the ISDN lines between San Fran and New York, that they had AT&T try three different lines and still kept dropping out. (Being a computer tech myself, and knowing some things about the former Ma Bell, I can believe it.) I heard a total of about 20 minutes of the show, in bits and pieces. They said they'd rebroadcast it (I guess from a recording made at the show.) But they didn't say when. I took the 3-day trial just to hear this show, now I feel I wasted that trial. (My wife was at the show, so I really wanted to be listening in order to better connect with her!)

just disappointed. Yeah, they said the problems were with AT&T's ISDN lines, they tried three different ones. But for something this important to so many people, I hope they've learned and next year will have a second-source provider in place as a backup. Both Verizon and Sprint have good networks, perhaps one of those as their backup? And maybe invest in the T-1 line?

Little Feat was good on Margaritaville. Disco Biscuits were interesting but a too instrumental. Why would XM put a guy in New York to yak about a live show in San Francisco?? I turned that off in a hurry.

is one I've often asked myself WRT to live broadcasts, especially when the yakker clearly knows less about the subject than the average listener. On the other hand I can't address the particulars here because I don't know what guy in NY was doing the commentary. If, say, it was Gary Lambert, he'd be worth one's attention!

Hmm OK, thanks. Then maybe I'm mistaken. The reason I ask is because I was listening to a nearby station (I think it was "Deep Tracks") sometime Sunday afternoon, and they played a version of Cassidy that I really liked. Before they played it, I believe the DJ said it came from a GD concert from 1991, and that that concert would be played later that night on the GD channel. Anyway, if anyone knows what show that was or any good Cassidys from 1991, please let me know!

Grateful Dead sang Cassidy 13 times in 1991. On 10/27/91 in Oakland, Carlos Santana stepped-in for a tune or two. 6/17/91, in Giants Stadium, is viewable on dvd. The 2nd set has a great Dark Star sequence. If you'd like the dates of more choice '91 shows, let me know.

I was eatting my breakfast this past Tuesday morning (November 22, 2011) around 6:00ish when my wife called me from her cell phone. She was heading to work and listening to The Grateful Dead Channel. She was all excited and had to tell me about this killer version of "Good Lovin' " she just finished listening to. The only information she could give me was that Bobby was singing it (so it is post PigPen) and that Bobby was on fire. He was singing about getting good luvin in Russia and China, Japan, etc..... The display on the radio only said it was "Bertha>Good Luvin". I tried to find out what show this version came from, but have been coming up empty-handed. I tried searching it on line, I checked my "Dead Base" book, I even went on line to the Grateful Dead Channel hoping to find a detailed list of past schedules for the shows showing songs that were played from what years, venues, etc..... All roads led to nowhere in this quest. Would anybody out there have any information as to what show (venue and year ((date)) ) these songs came from? Maybe someone could guide me in the right direction to locate this info. Even just a year this show was from would at least narrow it down for me. Anyone? Any help? This would be great. Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!!!!! Songs: "Bertha> Good Luvin' " Broadcast Date: Tuesday, November 22, 2011 Time: 6:00 ish (AM- EST) Bobby singing about good loving in Russia, Japan, China etc.... Later brothers and sisters, Ken

Coupla questions... Does anyone consciously select the songs playing at random? Or is it just coincidence/synchronicity? and... Why do they fade out of some songs prior to completion? I've witnessed a coupla times where they faded out of a particular song at a crucial moment...such as Jerry's refrain "be with you" during SOTM....I understand only wanting to play a portion of a bunch of adjoining songs and fading out at one song's end, but doing it in places like the "So many roads to ease my soul" refrain is sacrilegious (to me). This also makes me wonder if someone actually does this or if it's a computer thing...?
