Hiya all!I joined on the previous incarnation of this forum but will reintroduce myself. Caught my first show in '84 and saw many until the very end in '95. My favorite era is '87 to '90. Some of the most inspired music played by this band happened in that period IMHO though I enjoy all eras. I'll tell more about myself later when I have more time.

So I never much got into the Well, but have been at DNC since 99. Have made really good friends that came out of the computer - lifelong! My first show was in 1968 when I arrived in SF from the east coast. I'm still here and don't want to live anyplace else - although I've tried. Hello, I think we should have a chat room, in real time. This new site is VERY slow going from one thing to another. hopefully that will ease as the site is growing. What I do is a few radio shows on the Internet. I try to bring Radio back to it's former Glory, with a little help from me friends... Eyes here. My first show was Hampton Fall 1988, and my last was Charlotte Spring 1995. Jerry did not look well in Charlotte. Did Summer EC tour a couple times in 89 and 90. The new site looks great. My name is katrinka and I'm a Bay Area Flower Geezer, first show 1968 - San Francisco. I use the same login name in many different forums. I think I first posted on Usenet's rec.music.gdead in late 1994, right after I got my first internet connection. It was definitely while Jerry was still with us, and I remember reading and posting about the 1995 "tour from hell" and discussions of ways we hoped to help clean up the scene next tour. Then, after Jerry died, Robert Hunter started his online journal and mailbag, and next thing you know I was part of a living, breathing online community - Dead.Net Central ( DNC.) Within a short time there was a gathering of DNCers at a Bay Area show, and also the RMGD community had some get-togethers, and gradually my "real" life and my "cyber" life became intertwined. (Not to mention the Zero/Steve Kimock community, which became very active during that same time frame, when Steve Kimock was living just north of SF.) I never really had a career. Back in 1969 I worked on two underground newspapers - the San Francisco Express Times and the Berkeley Tribe - during the Free Huey Lewis and People's Park eras. For a brief time I lived with the Congress of Wonders (as family member/nanny) and traveled with them to the desert south of Tucson Arizona, and then back to the California coast. In 1972 I married the love of my life. He's a cultural anthropologist, and as an anthropologist's wife I was priveleged to participate in the "fieldwork" experience. even though I had no training. We traveled and lived interesting places for several years. But we gave that up to live in San Francisco after a consciousness-changing show in SF on 12/30/83. Something about the Terrapin Station that night made us decide to stay here. I got a job in the printing business, since I had a little experience there (from when we lived in Kansas - but that's another story) and I ended up managing a small print shop for several years before retiring. These days I live on the coast, just south of San Francisco, and I still go to as many shows as I can.

I love the Dead! I really love the Grateful Dead!! Im excited about the new site and are sure that you people running it are great folks. Thank you very much!!

Isnt that music something?!?!Glad to see folks still goin' on a feeling. I came in on the wake of the flood that was spillin' more than I could gather. My dad called it following a pot party across the country, and so it was... one long party from start to end, i'd like to take that ride again!

me too. lately ( must be the time of the year) i have really been missing the shows. i mean REALLY missing the shows. everyting, the travelling, the lot scene, the people, and of course-THE SHOW!!. I don't know why this year finds me longing so. anyone have a fix for me out there??? suggestions are more than welcome. nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile

Hi there! I was one of the little kids running around in the scene in the '70's. I grew up in San Francisco. My dad is a violinist, and he played with The Dead, and hundreds of other famous musicians. Close to the scene, I grew up in dead mayhem! My first show was 12-27-83 at the SF Civic. I was backstage with my friend Ben, whose mother had introduced Jerry to Mtn. Girl. I remember that he went and played video games in the kids area (Tempest was all the rage!). When Jerry broke into Cold Rain, I remember saying "Hey, the showis starting". My friend (Ben) said "I see these guys 50 times a year. Go out and have some fun."I remember hooking up with a group of heads from Boston. I could not believe that they came all that way to see the band that I had grew up with as a staple in my life. It was that moment that I understood the national/global draw that they had. I watched the show with that group, and one of them said "If you go backstage now, you can meet the band coming off stage." I ran down, and I saw Bobby and Jerry in the long white hallway. Jerry ducked out into his red Pickup truck, but I caught Bobby. I said "Nice show, Bobby". He ruffled my hair and said "Thanks, kid." I was hooked! Being 12 at the time, it took me a couple of years to get on tour.But by '86, I was on the bus. 339 shows later, I ended my twelve year oddessy with the Dead in Feb. 1995. I have no regrets! I was a major tour member from 1987-1995. Then, I went to Israel and found some roots in my life other than Gdead. Life has been up and down since then, but the music lives with me! I now live in Philly, and have three beautiful children. I am looking forward to many more years of Laughter, love and music. Rock on Dead.net!

Today is the 14th anniversary of my very last GD show, ever. I haven't seen any of them since. D'oh!

Gypsy, et al. and I also want to say hey now to all of the good people from the dead.net (old) forum... it is also nice to finally learn some details about the deadnetcentral folks, since I kind of jumped in there too around the same time I got into dead.net. the old dead.net forum was only up for what, 6 months? and plenty of cool people got into it and there were plenty of good things happening. nice to see people back here. Oroboros, in his infinite wisdom likened the old board to the 'acid tests' and perhaps this new board will get into being some fairly structured shows with 'sets' so long as we keep having a drumz space jam I'll keep the smile on my face. ( -: peace.

Were you a student at that time? I live there now going to OU. I 'm Joe by the way from Athens OH and I never saw the Grateful Dead together unfortunately too young but I say Phil and Friends once and Ratdog a couple of times. Love the Dead and listening to the many recordings I have of them. My dead mentor was Pepe don't know if any of you know him he was a Head since his first concert 10/31/71 Columbus. Love to talk dead and hopefully we can get those good conversations we were having at the forum.

....from North Carolina and I am definately a Deadhead. My first show was in 79' at my hometown of Charlotte. I am a drummer and played for many outfits over the years. My latest gig was a series of shows with Tom Constanten in Florida, Arizona and Las Vegas. We had a lot of fun. I was fortunate enough to see hundreds of shows and I considerate it to be a major influence in my life. My favorite window for the Dead is the 79' - 81' with 82' - 83 right behind. I am definately a Brent guy. Allright. Everybody enjoy this site. It seems to be very cool. A great way for us to share our experiences. Dougles

wowza, this is quite a treat! san francisco conceived, brooklyn born deadhead here. moved to nor cal in 1970 after hookin' up with the boyz at the fillmore east in '69 where i had the incredible blessing to work on the sound crew (and was responsible for helping liberate some of the first high quality soundboards; specifically 2/13-14 & 5/15/70) had the priviledge to hang out w/ marye, pauli, driver, aud, unkljohn, jewel, shmo, almanac, danlevy, silberman, maddog dgans and a bunch of other great 'heads on the well for ten years until jerry split and i basically did also (it was just too painful to talk about for a long time.) never could get back into the well but i've been wishing for a new place to reconnect with the tribe, so hopefully this will be it. great to see and hear from so many old folks & lookin' forward to meetin' those i haven't met b4. i've missed this family a lot...

Im mic and i just got to say that this is so awsome to be part of such a great group of people that has kept the band alive...just sitting here reading all your post's and i stopped to think that the grateful dead as a band is gone but the fans and remaining memebers are still trucking along how sweet is that. there are bands out there with website's that are great but this one is the best the band maybe gone but we the fans are not forgotten how many other band's out there have done that... yup there's only one the good ole grateful dead.....

Hello to everyone!:) New fan from Montreal here, been discovering the Deads for some days, watching the grateful dead movie and been listening to them non stop ever since. There seems to be such a friendly peaceful vibe from this band's music, it is magical. In a post-modern world where cynism, computers and the impossible can be downloaded, their music seems like the ultimate tonic for a guy with the blues. I would love to have recommendations from where to start and what shows can I found easily. I love the Europe 72 album. Well, hope to become a true deadhead in the future. thanks in advance.

I'm one of "those" NY Deadheads although I moved to RI many years ago; some may remember me as "Bones" back in the days of the haze. I bang nails for food but try not to confuse living to work with working to live; I've only been semi computer literate for a few years and still wondering if it's a blessing or a curse. Had a cell phone given to me last year but use it sparingly, guess you could say I'm going to hell in a bucket (you can fill in the rest and give it a listen while you're at it, '83 perhaps...)

Greetings all. I'm thrilled with the revamped site and glad to see that this place has once again turned into a place for like-minded kinfolk to hang, chat, discuss, share and reminiscence. My first show was 7/16/90, my last 6/15/95, 27 total, mostly in the Buffalo, Albany, Pittsburgh, and Ohio areas. My first bootleg was an Xth generation cassette of 02/26/77 which I snagged in the lot of the Richfield shows Fall '91. Needless to say, it changed my life, as it's turned my Grateful Dead experience from casual listening to something akin to an intellectual pursuit. Since Jerry's passing I've shaved, showered, and traded in my tie-dye for a neck tie. I've got a wonderful wife who is part of the GD family and was seeing Phish when they were a bar band playing Providence, RI in '88 and '89. I've also got a beautiful daughter who turns three in September, and another child on the way, due the first week of August. I download at a compulsively frenetic rate - thank god for bit torrent. Oroboros is my screen name but my real name is Tim. I am from the middle of the country (Nebraska) and my first show was 6-16-74 in Des Moines and my last was the Dead's last Vegas Run. I have enjoyed the old site immensely and am enjoying trying to retool my old brain with this new format. This does remind me of the wonderful friends and the community that initially turned me onto the Grateful Dead. Toured a bunch til 'my three sons' and then not so much, but was delighted by attending occasional shows and treasured them greatly. Wonderful wife who acompanied me to many shows and waved goodbye and sent me on my way to see music, when she didn't want to go. Attended a Phil and Friend's last summer at 10klakes with my wife and youngest son. Second born will be seeing RatDog (and the Police) at Bonnero next week. I have enjoyed the ride and I am grateful for some of you out there (you know who you are) who have made me laugh out loud (I learned about lol) as we alternate from trudging on the trail to taking flight "a little bird within her sang".
