    started by Oroboros It was 30 years ago today, that the Dead set up to play their second show at Red Rocks. I taped the show in Omaha (2 days prior) and then these shows at Red Rocks. These are the audience tapes of those 3 nights in July '78 with my Nak 550. I had patched into another rig with an 8 ft mic stand (later discovering that the kind taper was Bob Wagner) that got his Sony mics well above the crowd. Recently the GRATE folks at Mouth of the Beast graciously re-mastered my master Maxell cassette tapes with their modern electronic wizardry, meticulous expertise as well as their obvious love for the Dead's music. Today I got a message from Lapilot who was about to vine these babies (before his Nero froze up). So let me do the honors. First one on the list, pm me your address and I will get this send out to you. Happy anniversary to us!     have to go see what they Dead had in store for the Red Rock shows.And it was "just exactly perfect". That was a nice little roadtrip Minnesota>Nebraska>Colorado. The Truth is realized in an instant, the act is practiced step by step.

    just post like you just did to let people know this vine is now available. I bet someone jumps on this vine to check out the Grateful Dead's maiden voyage at Red Rocks, very shortly. Hey, how did these audience tapes sound to you anyway? I remember being slack-jawed during the Saturday show's Estimated Prophet >The Other One >Eyes Of The World >Drums >Space >Wharf Rat >Franklin's Tower >Sugar Magnolia AND then the Dead came back out to give us a 3 song encore with Terrapin Station >One More Saturday Night and we all were howling "Ahooooo Werewolves Of London" along with the band as they closed us out. It still gives me a massive grin recalling that show. The Truth is realized in an instant, the act is practiced step by step.

to that nice hippy guy. Hey, everyone give a listen to the wonderful 'strut' that Phil breaks into in the Cold Rain & Snow. Phil takes command and just slides and plucks and directs the band into a tremendous version of that tune. Quite unlike some others that are all power and volume, this one wraps you up in a that 'cool Colorado range' on that night. And the rest of the show(s) are quite fun as well. ;o} Enjoy, and Vine On! I'm going to remove myslef from this vine as I realized I already had these shows (from MOTB) from archive.org. Add 7/5/78 to the list of must-have '78 shows! The sound quality here is unbelievable, and this coming form a SBD guy. Oroboros and MOTB did a fantastic job here. If the 7/7 and 7/8 shows are equal in sound quality, we'll all be putting our SBD copies of those shows in storage. Great job Oroboros and thanks for the "preview" copies!

...mildly amusing, to me at least:Hi! The Omaha/Red Rocks '78 vine arrived today, in the same delivery as the Dead@Red Rocks '03 vine. Same venue, only six days short of a quarter century apart. Just wish Jerry could've made both shows. Sigh.
